NETANYAHU: Israel to pursue ‘diplomatic settlement’ with Palestinians

I’m not sure what a ‘diplomatic settlement’ means, but it does kinda sound like a Palestinian state, or maybe a probationary Palestinian state or something.

But make sure you read to the end:

TIMES OF ISRAEL – At the first meeting of Israel’s 34th government on Friday morning, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israel would pursue a diplomatic “settlement” with the Palestinians while working with regional states to pursue that goal.

“We will continue to promote a diplomatic settlement while upholding the vital interests and security of the citizens of Israel. At the same time and perhaps in assistance, we will try to realize the opportunity of regional developments and new possibilities of action with the moderate and responsible countries around us,” Netanyahu said Friday to his new cabinet.

Like the coalition agreement published this week, the statement made no mention of a two-state solution — the concept of a sovereign Palestinian state alongside Israel which is favored by the US, EU, United Nations and Arab League.

Soon after its narrow approval by parliament late Thursday, the new right-wing government was warned by Washington that it must forge a deal with the Palestinians for its own good.

US President Barack Obama pointedly mentioned it in remarks shortly after the Knesset ratified Netanyahu’s government by 61 votes to 59.

“I continue to believe a two-state solution is absolutely vital for not only peace between Israelis and Palestinians, but for the long-term security of Israel as a democratic and Jewish state,” said Obama.

“I know that a government has been formed that contains some folks who don’t necessarily believe in that premise, but that continues to be my premise.”

Obama is one arrogant Muslim. To make a remark like that is downright bullying, and you know he will do everything he can to bully Netanyahu into some kind of agreement.

After all, we know Turkey is pushing for peace between Israel and Hamas. No doubt they could use the help of an American president to ‘push’ Netanyahu towards some kind of deal with the Palestinians.
