New Indiana poll shows CRUZ AHEAD BY DOUBLE DIGITS!

A new Indiana poll shows Cruz way ahead of The Donald by 16 points, only 5 points away from hitting 50%:

  • Ted Cruz – 44.8%
  • Donald Trump – 29 %
  • John Kasich – 13.3 %

21ALIVE – Most experts say Republican presidential contender Ted Cruz desperately needs to win Indiana’s May 3rd primary to have any sort of shot at stopping Donald Trump from securing the GOP nomination.

New poll results suggest Cruz may be on track to get what he wants.

Political surveys for Indiana’s primary have been scarce.

IPFW’s Mike Downs Center for Indiana Politics commissioned one over the past couple of weeks, giving Cruz something to smile about.

Among 400 likely voters surveyed, Cruz won out, getting nearly 45 percent, compared to Donald Trump’s 29 percent.

Ohio Governor John Kasich was a distant third at 13 percent.

Another 13 percent were undecided.

This is only one poll and it does not jive with other Indiana polls that show Trump ahead by 5-8 points.

Here’s the lowdown on this poll:

Research Solution Center completed interviews with a random sample of 400 registered voters who said they were very likely to vote in the 2016 Republican primary and 400 registered voters who said they were very likely to vote in the 2016 Democratic primary election in Indiana.1 The sample for this survey was purchased from National List. The calling was done on April 13 – 27, 2016. The calls were made from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM Eastern on weekdays and 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM Eastern on Saturday. Approximately 75 percent of the surveys were completed on landlines and 25 percent were completed on mobile phones.

The margin of error associated with the 400 completed interviews of likely voters is 4.9 percent at the 95 percent level of confidence.  This means that with a sample of 400 valid surveys of registered voters, it can be said that if the survey was repeated 100 times, in 95 out of the 100 times, the research findings would, at most, vary by plus or minus 4.9 percent.

And here’s the poll itself:
