The Washington Post wrote a lengthy article on Vice President Mike Pence’s wife, Karen Pence, from which came this YUGE! revelation by the author:
Mike Pence never dines alone w a woman not his wife, nor does he attends events w alcohol, w/o her by his side. https://t.co/BxfS0JzbAc
— Ashley Parker (@AshleyRParker) March 29, 2017
I don’t necessarily take this tweet in a mocking way, but more in a factual way. And I read it and applaud Mike Pence for this as it’s a very proper and respectful thing to do. That, however, doesn’t mean that the author of this piece doesn’t have any agenda – more on that later.
Twitter reacted to her tweet and some don’t like it one bit:
@AshleyRParker I wonder what happened that led to these rules.

@AshleyRParker @maggieNYT Sounds like someone who knows he has no self-control
— Neal Rogers (@nealrogers) March 29, 2017
What is up with this? Super freaky. It's like he's an ultra Orthodox jew. https://t.co/izJnPVPIHR

It's a shame that our first gay vice-president is also a horrible self-loathing monster. https://t.co/lRnFcsa6MJ
— thom dunn (@thomdunn) March 29, 2017
This isn't cute, or "old fashioned", it's fucking crazy and not acceptable from a modern person next in line to be the president https://t.co/UVUEbi3SYX
— Leigh Drogen (@LDrogen) March 29, 2017
To me this implies he'd run off with another woman after sniff of the barmaid's apron https://t.co/r688mzfzR3

But this one seems to be getting the most attention from conservatives like Dana Loesch:
If you want to understand the conservative xian orientation re: women: Mike Pence won't be alone in a room w any woman who's not his wife. https://t.co/1iDmSr4FuC
— Elizabeth Spiers (@espiers) March 29, 2017
This is an asinine response to his respect for his wife. https://t.co/B1899YfUY8
— Dana Loesch (@DLoesch) March 29, 2017
The "stay out of our bedrooms" crowd are trying awfully hard to get into Pence's right now.
— Dana Loesch (@DLoesch) March 29, 2017
I almost always travel with my husband. Why? Because I enjoy his company and I know how you monsters operate.
— Dana Loesch (@DLoesch) March 29, 2017
I do this as a courtesy to him, as a respectful wife, not because it's a control issue. Some of you people have screwed up marriage views.
— Dana Loesch (@DLoesch) March 29, 2017
As someone who grew up Evangelical, wouldn't say it's standard exactly. But indicative of notion that women are primarily sexual temptresses
— Elizabeth Spiers (@espiers) March 29, 2017
This is an intellectually shallow interpretation. That's YOUR prejudice. He's simply demonstrating courtesy. https://t.co/vk7QAaeQgk
— Dana Loesch (@DLoesch) March 29, 2017
Here’s more reaction from conservatives:
What a crazy person. If he keeps this up they could end up having a successful marriage. https://t.co/KrfEkD8QCn
— Ben (@BenHowe) March 29, 2017
If @VP's faith allowed him to force his wife to wear a burkha and beat her for defying him, @AshleyRParker would never dare say a word. https://t.co/qAuMMN1Ff3
— Kurt Schlichter (@KurtSchlichter) March 29, 2017
Which is awesome, especially in this filthy city https://t.co/eEBqxPAHb5

Smart man https://t.co/5ip1cpMOZb
— Gabby Morrongiello (@gabriellahope_) March 29, 2017
Now as I was pointing out earlier, Ashley Parker does seem to have an agenda that is revealed by reading her timeline. Let’s take a look:
In 1991, Karen Pence wrote a letter to the editor, outlining her views against homosexuality. https://t.co/BxfS0JzbAc pic.twitter.com/hInSytir81
— Ashley Parker (@AshleyRParker) March 29, 2017
@stephenrodrick If you're referring to my story… 1) I do quote her, in her own words, saying she doesn't weigh in on policy. BUT…
— Ashley Parker (@AshleyRParker) March 29, 2017
@stephenrodrick 2) The whole point of the profile is that she is highly influential w her husband (incl on social issues)…
— Ashley Parker (@AshleyRParker) March 29, 2017
@stephenrodrick …even if she's not necessarily marking up memos and suggesting changes to, say, the CR.
— Ashley Parker (@AshleyRParker) March 29, 2017
So the whole point of the profile is to show that Karen Pence is the Christian woman behind the curtain controlling Mike Pence – and of course she’s against homosexuality!
And I’m sure Ashley’s getting a big kick out of how her ilk is spinning Pence’s marriage into some prude, old-fashioned, male-chauvinist thing that doesn’t belong in the White House.
