The anti-Trump protesters were out in force tonight and determined to cause trouble. They started by trying to shame Trump fans who were going to his rally. But later it basically turned into a riot as protesters went through a police barricade and officers had to protect the entrance to the building wearing riot gear. They also had to use smoke canisters and pepper spray on the crowd.

Here’s NBC’s writeup on the riots:
NBC NEWS – Albuquerque police threw smoke canisters and used what appeared to be pepper spray on crowds Tuesday after anti-Donald Trump protesters threw rocks and bottles at officers, officials said.
There were no arrests during protests outside the Trump rally as of around 9 p.m. local time, (11 p.m. ET) police said. At around 8 p.m., protesters rushed past a barricade and officers in riot gear were called in to block the locked entrance of the venue.
Protesters burned pro-Trump flags and signs and threw rocks and bottles during a brief but tense confrontation outside the Albuquerque Convention Center after Trump was finished speaking.
Police said devices used against crowds were smoke canisters, not tear gas. Some kicked the devices back at police. What appeared to be pepper spray was also used.
Albuquerque police said on Twitter that there may have been damage to convention center windows by a pellet gun. No officers were injured, Albuquerque police spokesman Officer Tanner Tixier said. He said police showed “an amazing amount of restraint.”
“We’re actively trying to move them in a direction — we’re trying to get them to go,” Tixier said.
Protesters took over intersections nearby and some drivers did “burnouts,” spinning tires and filling the streets with smoke, as police in riot gear and officers on horses pushed the crowd along.
