Obama nominates John Kerry for Secretary of State

Obama just nominated John Kerry for Secretary of State a few moments ago, citing that Hillary was also very excited with the nomination. As I’ve said in the past, I just don’t think it matters much who will replace Hillary Clinton because Obama runs the show in Washington and handles most of the serious foreign policy stuff himself.

That said, the Weekly Standard is raising some issues with the Kerry nomination, noting that he’s got some investments in companies accused of violating Iranian sanctions and that he has been a frequent visitor to Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad. The latter could put him at odds with Obama who wants the dictator removed, however I doubt with Assad’s actions in the past year or so that Kerry will support him in any fashion.

So, ho hum I guess is my feeling over the whole announcement. And he’ll probably get nominated without any trouble because, to quote Lindsey Graham,
