I heard this last night and my first impression was disappointment. No, not because of the lunacy of Chris Matthews, that’s expected. Rather, it was the ‘defense’ against Matthew’s comment from former RNC chair that made shake my head (via Newsbusters):
Matthews relating Republicans to the KKK is entirely offensive, but sadly expected because he’s a loon. I don’t mean to be so dismissive as it should be exposed and that’s one reason we’re posting it. But Steele passed up a golden opportunity to fight back against the false narrative that Republicans are the party of the KKK. Instead he made it personal by saying “don’t go there with me on that”, as if his offense was his only defense.
I know it’s easy to be critical in hindsight, but it would have been so much more awesome had the fought back against the false narrative instead of personalizing it.
