OK I’m now officially of fan of General ‘Mad Dog’ Mattis…

After reading this quote and a few others by Mattis, I’m now officially a fan:

Dude that is so awesome!

Here are a few other quotes the DC put together:

On the importance of artillery:

“I come in peace. I didn’t bring artillery. But I’m pleading with you, with tears in my eyes. If you fuck with me, I’ll kill you all.”

Mattis delivered this gem after the invasion of Iraq in 2003 while meeting with Iraqi elders in his unit’s area of operations.

On woman-beaters:

“You go into Afghanistan, you got guys who slap women around for five years because they didn’t wear a veil. You know, guys like that ain’t got no manhood left anyway. So it’s a hell of a lot of fun to shoot them. Actually it’s quite fun to fight them, you know. It’s a hell of a hoot. It’s fun to shoot some people. I’ll be right up there with you. I like brawling.”

Mattis offered these thoughts on domestic abuse during a panel discussion Feb. 1, 2005.

On manners:

“Be polite, be professional, but have a plan to kill everybody you meet.”

Mattis gave his Marines this piece of advice while in Iraq.

From what little I’ve read about Patton, he sounds a lot like him.

He also said this in 2014 about Obama taking troops off the table when discussing ISIS:

WAPO – The Obama administration’s new strategy for combating the Islamic State militant group terrorizing Iraq and Syria should not limit discussion of putting U.S. boots on the ground, and doesn’t go far enough overall, recently retired U.S. Gen. James Mattis told the House Intelligence Committee on Thursday.

“You just don’t take anything off the table up front, which it appears the administration has tried to do,” said Mattis, who served as the top U.S. general overseeing operations in the Middle East before leaving military service last year.

“Specifically, if this threat to our nation is determined to be as significant as I believe it is, we may not wish to reassure our enemies in advance that they will not see American ‘boots on the ground,’ ” Mattis said. “If a brigade of a our paratroopers or a battalion landing team of our Marines would strengthen our allies at a key juncture and create havoc/humiliation for our adversaries, then we should do what is necessary with our forces that exist for that very purpose.”

Ok I’m sold.
