Oklahoma cop charged with first degree manslaughter in controversial shooting death

The controversial police shooting and death of Terrence Crutcher has resulted in a police officer being charged with manslaughter.

From Fox News 23:

The Tulsa County District Attorney filed first degree manslaughter charges against Officer Betty Shelby with the Tulsa Police Department.

Shelby shot and killed Terence Crutcher on Sept. 16 in north Tulsa. Video released showed Crutcher with his hands up.

Tulsa County DA Steve Kunzweiller said a warrant was issued for Shelby’s arrest and arrangements are being made with her lawyer to turn herself in to authorities.

This of course doesn’t mean she’s guilty, but if it was a justifiable shooting then hopefully she’ll be exonerated.

The District Attorney says she was escalating the situation while he was trying to surrender:

If she IS guilty, they need to throw the book at her. When a police officer breaches the public trust this way, it does terrible harm to the social compact between regular citizens and the police.
