I’ve been watching Pawn Stars for a while now and I love the show. I’ve sat for hours in front of the TV watching rerun after rerun until I think I’ve just about seen them all. Watching Rick Harrison and hearing all the stuff he knows is great too, I mean the guy is no slouch.

Tonight Rick Harrison was on Mark Levin’s radio show said he had a great idea to film out in Southern California at the Glamis Sand Dunes. He’d be employing around 100 or so people to film the show and had all kinds of ideas as to what he could do. But it’s on federal government land run by the BLM (Bureau of Land Management) so he had to apply for a permit to film there. He said he just found out yesterday that he was denied, and the reason they gave him was ‘budget cuts’. He says that doesn’t even make sense and believes if it were some liberal actor trying to do a show they would be able to get a permit without a problem.

If it had been Jim Carrey, his app would have been fast-tracked and stamped APPROVED. Zero and his admin look after their own.

    • MacWell

PatrickHenrysBody Justice has been blindsided by the lust in men’s hearts. We the people are allowing W.DC to dictate every aspect of our lives.
When are we going to put a stop to it?
We’ve allowed these (career politicians) to run OUR government for too long. They now believe that they have the “right” to have their jobs, get paid for life, free benefits, for life, pensions that most of us could only dream of, ok, it’s mostly a thankless job, government drones and all, so we allow it. All we ask is that they revert to the Constitution, and how the Constitution applies to their personal agendas in return. Do we, who pick up the tab for all of their bennies, mind that we have to pay for it all? A little, but, we also want the best government in the world. After all, isn’t that what America is really about? The best for everyone who is willing to work hard and EARN it?
I believe the answer lies with the fact that we MUST stop electing lawyers. Nothing against lawyers, I sure wouldn’t want to face a murder trial being represented by Joe the plumber, but, I think Joe would make a great member of state Congress, or even at the national level. With 70+% of the Senate lawyers, it’s no wonder we get 3000+ page bills that even they cannot understand. No friends, the only way we’re going to peacefully take America back, is by taking back OUR electoral process.
Congress was intended to be made up of a cross section of Americans, not lawyers and career politicians. It was intended to make up for the time it took for information to get around to the people, that our representatives were to debate the issues that were important to America, and her people, not spend much of your time running for your next reelection. Congress was intended to be a reflection of it’s people. People from different walks of life. Farmers and cattle ranchers, bankers and accountants, rich and poor, were supposed to be spoken for. That was the sacred trust we were intended to have with our legislators. A trust that has been broken and abused, by them, not us. But, it is us, “we the people” who must raise up leaders, who will speak from power and honor. The person is out there. We still have patriots. They’re usually the unspoken ones.

      • ryanomaniac

@MacWell PatrickHenrysBody Jefferson hated lawyer’s and didn’t want them in government. He said, “They will never make a rod against themselves.” He was right.

      • OneThinDime

MacWell PatrickHenrysBody Lawyers are elected because their wealthy lawyer friends donate to their campaigns because complex laws are passed that lawyers charged their clients huge fees to interpret and defend.  Lawyers will become the wealthiest profession with ObamaCare.

    • OneThinDime

PatrickHenrysBody And if it was Jim Carrey, there would have been tax breaks too.

  • YoJoe

Federal employees LOOK DOWN on the taxpayers who pay their salary
They do have a control problem
If he hired a lawyer to get the permit – He would get it
BUT The legal fees would be cost prohibitive
The government is OUT of CONTROL!

    REVOLT!!!

  • applepie101

How else are they going to pay for Obama/Biden va-cays?
Here’s an idea: sell the ‘federal government land’ to someone who has the business sense to maintain it effectively. The federal government shouldn’t own land. State government, maybe; federal government, no.

    • MacWell

applepie101 Unless I’m confused, why does the federal government own anything? How can it? It’s an it! Only people can own something.

      • applepie101

        MacWell  Precisely!

  • notsofastthere

Let’s remember that Obama said the private sector is doing just fine, so there isn’t any need for greedy Rick Harrison to expand his business and hire more people. EBT and Welfare can take care of the people…..right?

    • azgirl9000

notsofastthere And as a famous economist (Nancy Pelosi) once said, the more people we can get collecting unemployment, the more the economy will be stimulated.

  • StevenValdez

Great interview, I enjoyed it, didn’t know PawnStars was in 151 countries and over 30 languages that’s amazing.

  • DanaZZGarcia

Terrific stuff. I will appreciate P-Stars a lot more now.

  • Seebees333

Rick can tell you better than the Labor Dept. how well the economy is doing. Nothing beats real anecdotal evidence.

  • vorlath

I’ve said it before, Obama is high maintenance. He will destroy everything and then blame everyone else for the failure. He’s someone with such low self esteem that he has to always have everyone give him praise, otherwise he takes it out on innocent people.

    • MetalMike92

vorlath Agreed. I just wanna know why there are so many people against him that use to be for him but its not showing in the media (news, newspaper, etc). Will Obama receive the same hate Bush did? And will people ever realize how bad he truly is since they elected a community organizer as a President?

    • Watchman74

vorlath This is why Obama has to have a scapegoat, he has to have someone to blame. No matter how bad things get he will never take responsibility for his actions.

  • JeffWRidge

I always did like Rick and the Old Man. They are real businessmen who understand how the economy works.

  • Lil Ol Me

Why don’t you try to make a liberal themed show to see if they give you a permit

  • PVG

Watch this show all the time. How in the world does Chum’s dialogue translate in another language?;-)

    • NYGino

PVG …easy, just speak in NEA style.

  • RighteousCrow_JustCaws

    “Make it hurt.”

    • Wiggy111

RighteousCrow_JustCawsI wouldn’t be surprised if this type of thing is going on with all sorts of federal permits.  They will send out a denial letter and the reason will be “budget cuts”.  As you said, “making it hurt” is what they are doing here.

      • RighteousCrow_JustCaws

        Wiggy111 RighteousCrow_JustCaws
It’s pervasive now…there are daily stories at Fox news.com under the headline  ‘making it hurt.’

  • http://cfp4us.org/ WolfieUSA

Am I the only one that has never seen this show?

    • RobHorine

WolfieUSA You should really see it.  It’s fun.  And watching Chumlee makes you think if someone can really be that stupid.

      • NYGino

RobHorine WolfieUSA You don’t need Chumlee Rob, just listen one time to Nancy Pelosi.

        • DaveSuchy

NYGino RobHorine WolfieUSA dude, I think ”fatass Hoss” makes Chum Lee look like a genius.

      • rcmodelr

WolfieUSA I wonder how much of Chumlee’s stupidity is natural and how much is nothing more than acting for the show?  I doubt any pawn shop would allow somebody as stupid as Chumlee acts to work for them even if he is the owner’s son.  Makes me suspect that Chumlee is probably very intelligent, but the show producers just said “We need one of you to play the dummy…  Chumlee, you look like you’ll fit the part perfectly…  While we’re filming, just act like the most stupid idiot you can make yourself out to be.”

        • Godisright

rcmodelr WolfieUSA   Rick is smart. If Chumlee makes a $10,000 mistake, people love it the ratings skyrocket. Commercial time and royalties more than offset the debacle. Genius! Fun show.

    • rick2340

WolfieUSA I didn’t have any interest in the show but I watched it for the first time a couple of months ago.  It’s actually a really good show.  You should check it out.

      • http://cfp4us.org/ WolfieUSA

rick2340 WolfieUSA RobHorine Will try and give it a look.  Can’t swear to like it.  someone suggested I watch Duck Dynasty and I gave it a look… Won’t be watching again.

        • NYGino

WolfieUSA rick2340 RobHorine There are two reasons I like the show.   It’s like a mini history course.  People bring items in to sell or pawn and the item is described  and (obviously the research is done behind the scenes) it’s cultural and historical significance is explained.  And the back and forth bargaining between the buyer and seller is classic salesmanship 101

        • Watchman74

WolfieUSA rick2340 RobHorine Duck Dynasty looks completely staged and fake. Pawn Stars is not bad once in awhile, it’s success has spawned a few other pawn shows but it’s still the best of the lot.

        • c4pfan

WolfieUSA rick2340 RobHorine It’s better than Duck Dynasty.

      WolfieUSA
I watched it for a while, but after reading about Harrison’s very rare appearances at his pawn shop (essentially only during filming) it took it from a quasi reality show to completely staged. Granted, the only reality show on TV is CSpan, and perhaps “World’s Dumbest.”

    • Buckeyemom1776

      I agree completely.

  • JimSnape

Sounds like a good reason to ban federal ownership of land except that which is specifically provided for by the constitution.  E.g. – Article One, Section 8, Clause 17, offers the only provision in the Federal Constitution for federal ownership of land. It provides for the creation of Washington, D.C. as the seat of the federal government and allows the federal government to purchase lands in a state with “…the consent of the legislature of the state in which the same shall be, for the erection of forts, magazines, arsenals, dockyards, and other needful buildings.”

    • DonnieMiller

JimSnape 3 major land purchases made this country Gadsden, Alaska and the Louisiana.

      • CBDenver

DonnieMiller Not sure what your point is.  The issue is Federal ownership of land.  All those past purchases you mention involve land that came under the jurisdiction of States.  The States made it available a private properties available for sale under the laws of the State.   Unfortunately the Feds have decided to appropriate lands via various schemes including declaration of national parks, wildlife refuges, wilderness areas, etc. rather than forts, arsenals, and other things needed for national defense.

  • PNWShan

Thanks for posting this. I listened to it live earlier. Pawn Stars has some interesting history on it, but I too often find myself yelling at the sellers, “If you want collector’s price for it, don’t sell it to a pawn shop, you fool!” And some of the stuff is made up – like riding the newly restored vehicle, and some of the history stuff you know someone looked up and fed to one of the guys – but at least it’s fairly accurate.
I think we can use O’s ‘make it hurt’ strategy to our advantage if every time something ‘hurts’ we blame OBAMA.

    • HaywoodJablomie

PNWShan Certainly some of the “reality” on the show is staged.  Does anyone really believe that the owner of Robosaurus wanted to sell the monstrosity to a pawn shop?  It was clearly just on the show for publicity.  I’ve seen several other things on the show that were certainly only there for publicity.
But I still love the show.  It’s fun and informative.  Even the staged parts are fun.

  • clubgitmo

Heard this on mark’s show last night but I must admit I never heard of this guy and his show. Shows how much TV I do not watch.

  • Dr. Strangelove

I moved and dropped DirectTV because A. I drive OTR and don’t watch a lot of TV and B. I don’t like paying for shows like LOGO and Current/Al JazeeraTV. I do miss Pawn Stars, American Pickers and a couple others, however. Too bad they don’t have ala carte cable/sattelite. I have a lot of respect for Rick after hearing this, I’m going to get his book.

    • tscottme

Dr. Strangelove You might get a Netflix subscription or just search YouTube. I think almost all episodes are on YT, on demand. If you can live without having to see everything in HD you can even watch a bunch on many smartphones.

He’ll probably lose some business for saying this

    • tinlizzieowner

      StevePerry
I seriously doubt it. Liberals are too busy watching ‘The View’ or MSLSD to even know what Pawn Stars is about.

    • CKenDavisSr

StevePerry no, he will gain business. You liberals, or should I say government trolls, never have made a business. You live off the sweat of the small business that took risks. We small business owners have more of a right to view our opinions that you government owned liberals. Our stake in the game is purely 100%. Yours is no risk.so stevie boy, why don’t you take your opinion to another country. You are not a help here. Your opinion is worthless.

    • Mick Miller

StevePerry I highly doubt that. If he does, it’s for the best.

StevePerry Remember Chick~fil~a Steve? When people like you start talking trash about good people, people like us rally to their aid. It also works the other way. StarBucks CEO say’s he doesn’t care what people think about his opinion and they can sell their stock if they don’t like it, well take a look at stock now, and with the boycott people are putting on their stores his remaining shareholders aren’t going to be pleased.

Business people need to learn how to keep their political viewpoints out of business

    • tinlizzieowner

      StevePerry
Does that apply to Hollywood actors too?

    • jacksonranch

StevePerry Steve, I guess you are not aware of  where the government gets “their” money from, Its hard WORKING Americans. We will keep our political views out as soon as the government will get the hell out of our business. Business owners are who create jobs and  pay your salary. With all the taxes paid  we fund the idiots running the government (including the dick tator in the white house, half the world and all the dead beats living off the government tit. Wake up!!!

    • Mick Miller

StevePerry What about movie starts Steve? Business people have no choice but to insert their viewpoints as Rick clearly states, the government has their hands in every aspect of everyone’s business. You are truly unconscious and I am guessing either anti political or a liberal.

    • RuthSluder

Like Hollywood should keep their political views to themselves.

    • JerryChapman

StevePerry  that’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. Business people are the heart and soul of this country. They provide the life blood (tax revenue) for government. He’s espousing nothing more than liberty and capitalism.

Good for Rick! We NEED to speak out in order to bring attention to a HUGE problem…that which is government!

  • SusanMello

Well sorry Rick.  Our govt. doesn’t want to make a little money.  Thank you for speaking out.  We need more people like you.   Pay it forward kind of person.

  • Mick Miller

It is very refreshing to have a celebrity who is willing to go out on a limb and speak the truth. Most people don’t understand how business works and we are breeding a generation of gimme brats who could care less about working let alone starting, running and maintaining a business. As we sit here our government prints just enough money to cover the interest on our debts every day until the day the US dollar is no longer the standard of payment worldwide and we default. To turn away potential business whether temporary or long term just reinforces my belief that our government wants to destroy our economy. Thank you for speaking up Rick!

  • Mick Miller

Something we all might consider is filing exempt and paying at the end of the year. If enough people did this it might just get the attention of our royal court of fools.

    • queenwemo

Mick Miller I agree, have been saying that for years, and practicing even longer!

  • Shelly Fischman

    shelly fischman

After 37 years, I recently retired from the BLM, the federal agency that denied Pawn Stars the permit.  They have money for mandatory “sensitivity training,” programs honoring every ethnic, gender, and sexual identity group (except straight white males), and endless strategic reviews to give programs “increased visibility.”  When an agency has a “Diversity and Inclusion” webpage, with the salaried people to create, support, and update it, you know there is money somewhere to support permits if sane priorities are set.  Geeez, I’m getting goosebumps thinking about what I don’t have to deal with anymore.  I would add the rank and file employees are mostly good people trying to deal with a politically correct bureaucracy and that much of the PC nonsense is government wide and not limited to BLM.

  • nolickspittles

If the GOP ever regains control of government they MUST slash and burn all programs, fire all of these insane, needless government clowns and return our land, our country to the control of WE THE PEOPLE

    • HaywoodJablomie

      nolickspittles
Good luck.  History shows that the only difference between Democrat control and Republican control is the speed at which we’re heading for the socialist abyss.  It’s slower under the Republicans. Although Obama and today’s Democrats have pushed the accelerator to the floor.
The only chance we have for saving the country is to elect Tea Party-backed Republicans.  Tea Party Republicans are similar to Libertarians, but minus the extremism.  The problem is that the leftwing propaganda machine media is afraid of the Tea Party and has pulled out all the stops to lie about, smear, and demonize the Tea Party.
The Tea Party is nothing more than a grassroots organization of ordinary mainstream Americans, moms, dads, and grandparents, white, black, and Asian.  It is non-partisan and includes many Democrats.  The Tea Party does not have a social goal but only an economic one.  It supports cutting the bloated federal bureaucracy and it’s out-of-control budget.  It wants to cut taxes to stimulate business growth and employment.  That’s it/

Love all the whinging over the sequester-you want cuts in government spending, you just can’t stand for them to have the slightest impact on your little world. Go hurt some poor kid, don’t hurt me.
You asked for, you BEGGED for, this punishment. Now hush up and take it,  or admit you were wrong.

    • Mick Miller

Lavender1 Elaborate on who and what you are talking about…..

    • Mick Miller

Lavender1 The sequester isn’t what is going to kill jobs Lavender. Obamacare is going to break us all including YOU! This is about a government run amuck ignoring the will of the people. Yes, 59 million out of 314 million Americans voted for him. Unfortunately this doesn’t mean that rest of the U.S. is in line with the 1/6 of the population who vote for their jobs instead of earn an honest living.

      • ScottSchenn

Mick Miller Lavender1 I guess that means that the other 5/6 of the population should’ve gotten off their lazy asses and voted.  Oh wait, that would have just made it a grander victory as it is the Republicans that use voter suppression techniques to keep the democrats from the polls.

        • HaywoodJablomie

ScottSchenn Mick Miller Lavender1 Ah HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
That WAS a joke, right?  It is the Democrats who have a long, sordid history of election fraud.  Historians believe that JFK only won in 1960 due to Democrat election fraud.  Since they pulled out all the stops for the last election, there’s a good possibility that Obama only won through election fraud.
Notice how it’s only the Democrats who get hysterical about laws designed to thwart election fraud.  Why do you suppose that is?

    • nolickspittles

Lavender1 This has nothing to do with sequester cuts, this is simple the dumb fuck BO and his Democratic clowns using sequester in a punitive manner to piss people off and “he, they” think people will blame the GOP … but people are waking-up to the fact that BO stinks and his stench is never ending and that he and he alone is to blame for the nasty smell we are living with along with all of his childish, reckless, irresponsible, lame idiotic asinine actions that demonstrate over and over again how inept he truly is and how clueless he always will be

    • HaywoodJablomie

      Lavender1 “All the sequester cuts”??
      1.  The sequester was created by OBAMA.  He devised it and offered it exchange for an increase in the spending limit.
      2.  The sequester cuts are a spit in the bucket compared to the cuts that NEED to be made.
      3.  Your beloved Messiah is intentionally cutting only things that he believes will hurt Americans the most in a devilish plan to turn the American people against the cuts.
Even if these “draconian cuts” are implemented, the federal
government will spend more this year than it did last year.
Another way to think about it is this: In 2007, under Bush, the government was 40
percent smaller than it is today. Were poor people sleeping under bridges? Were
the elderly and children starving? Were planes grounded? Was food unsafe to eat? No.  Anyone who falls for the Dmeocrats’ Chicken Little routine over the sequester is a gullible chump.

Mick, I’m talking about the article above-Rick of Pawn Stars is whining about the sequester, now that it impacts him. I’ve heard conservatives demanding across the board cuts for decades-now you have them-and you’re whining anytime the cuts impact you.

    • VirtualHybrid

Lavender1 you are clueless…Did you know there is 4.2 BILLION a year given out due to a loophole in the tax code to Illegal Immigrants (specifically the “Additional Child Tax Credit)?? The cuts demanded by conservatives are those that are wasteful, abused, can either be picked up by the private sector or simply should be shut down…AMTRAK is another perfect example…over a BILLION dollars a year. The government has NEVER turned a profit from AMTRAK and it only costs we the people money. Shut it down or sell it. Letting illegal criminals out of jail and shutting down white house tours is a sickening game played by Democrats. People like you make me want to throw up.

Yeah…let’s talk about loopholes…

Lavender1~Idiot troll–the sequester isn’t even real cuts, only rollbacks on an increase in spending for various depts across the board. What part of that do you not comprehend? Oh, wait . . . that’s right, you’re still listening to your Leftist, Soros-funded “handlers”. When will you finally break away from the herd of sheep & do some independent research &/or learn to think for yourself. Break away from the govt teat man! Rick is right on the money–Eco-Nazis & Obama are keeping us chained to ME OPEC Oil Overlords, rather than allowing us to realize true energy independence & all the jobs that would boost our economy. What–you really like paying more than double what gas cost under Bush?

      • denny dennison

ElizabethDeFranco Lavender1 gas has always fluctuated, and it was both higher and lower than it is now, under Bush. And when Bush was CIC, the R always claimed the POTUS has no control over gas prices, but since there’s a D in office, the story seems to have miraculously changed. Fucking hypocrites.

    • ElizabethDeFranco

Lavender1~One more point “Lavender”–there would be absolutely NO deficit in this nation were we able to really deal with the one significant problem that is costing us so much money & that is the $338.3 Billion per year that is spent on ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS–no, I didn’t call them “undocumented DemocRATS”! Cut out all that “entitlement spending” of your party attempting to buy votes & party allegiance & eliminate all those unnecessary Fed govt depts: Education, IRS, Commerce, Energy, DHS, HHS, etc, etc, ad nauseum.

There is a significant number of Americans who should be in an asylum. They are not because Democrats had laws passed that make it impossible to incarcerate mentally deranged people like Lavender1.

    • ElizabethDeFranco

edgineer~You are absolutely correct & that is the “uncomfortable truth” that nobody on the Left wants to address. The Leftist radicals in the late 60’s & into the 70’s virtually dismantled the entire network of institutions that were once used to deal with the criminally insane & various other deranged individuals that shouldn’t be allowed to run loose in our communities; these institutions WERE desperately in need of reform. However, the Leftists simply dismantled them without a thought as to what should take their place & now we are seeing the results more & more frequently. Family members face an insurmountable number of obstacles in trying to secure care for their mentally ill family members–even if they present an immediate danger to themselves or others, getting quality care is very, very difficult! I know 1st hand–an immediate family member of ours committed suicide less than 24 hours after being released from an interim facility that was supposed to temporarily hold this man & evaluate his mental health status; they deemed him “fit to leave” & less than 24 hours later he was dead!

      • edgineer

ElizabethDeFranco edgineer  Those Leftist radicals are now Democrats in office. And do not fool yourself, they knew exactly what they were doing in the 1970s.

        • ElizabethDeFranco

edgineer ElizabethDeFranco~You are absolutely right, not only are they all DemocRATS in office, they apparently are all best buddies w/the Deviant currently occupying the WH . . .

      • denny dennison

ElizabethDeFranco edgineer it was Reagan who closed all the mental institutions.

        • ElizabethDeFranco

denny dennison ElizabethDeFranco edgineer~Try again! Most mental institutions underwent some sort of radical reform in the 70’s & into the early 80’s. Mostly this was done at the local or state level & the federal govt rarely if ever had a say in what happened. In most cases state institutions were rocked by scandal when horrific conditions became public knowledge; the problem was, no effort was made to replace the existing system. Some former “inmates” were simply turned loose in the community & left to fend for themselves, receiving only “outpatient” care & no one to provide oversight for actually taking the prescribed medication & continuing in the recommended course of treatment or therapy.

        • denny dennison

          ElizabethDeFranco
The closing of mental health hospitals in California and
across the United States. Is it any wonder that California seems to
have all of the crazy homeless people? State mental hospitals were
taken away by Governor Reagan in the seventies, and federal mental
health programs were later taken away by President Reagan in the
          eighties.
When Ronald Reagan was governor of California he systematically began http://www.campaignformentalhealth.org/site/News2?page=NewsArticle&id=5147&JServSessionIdr011=m8n8bdg621.app2a,
later as president he would cut aid for federally-funded community
mental health programs. It is not a coincidence that the homeless
populations in the state of California grew in the seventies and
eighties. The people were put out on the street when mental hospitals
started to close all over the state.
Seeing an increase in crime, and brutal murders by http://www.crimelibrary.com/serial4/herbmullin/index.html,
a mental hospital patient, the state legislature passed a law that
would stop Reagan from closing even more state-funded mental health
hospitals. But Reagan would not be outdone. In 1980, congress proposed
new legislation (PL 96-398) called the community mental health systems
act (crafted by Ted Kennedy), but the program was killed by
newly-elected President Ronald Reagan. This action ended the federal
community mental health centers (see timeline on this http://www.news8austin.com/content/news_8_explores/mental_illness/?ArID=78468&SecID=320) program and its funding.
In closing, the next time you pass by a homeless person in downtown
San Francisco screaming to themselves at the top of their lungs,
remember Reagan. And if your kids need to go out and http://www.bushin30seconds.org/view/01_small.shtml
at age 9 to pay down the national debt, be sure to tell them that they
can thank Ronald Reagan, and now President Bush, for their misfortune.

        • HaywoodJablomie

          denny dennison ElizabethDeFranco
You sure are a media-brainwashed chump.  It wasn’t Ronald Reagan who closed mental health facilities.  It was the left wing’s beloved ACLU who took a class action lawsuit to the Supreme Court saying that the government had no right to hold the psychos against their will unless it could PROVEN that they posed a threat to themselves or to others.
The American Communist Lawsuit Union (ACLU) won the case and the doors to the mental hospitals were thrown open and the loonies began to spread out like a scene from Dawn of the Dead.  VOILA! Instant “homeless” problem all over the U.S.
So, the next time you see a homeless person pushing a shopping cart down the sidewalk and muttering to an imaginary friend. remember the American left and the ACLU who caused it.
And as for the national debt, your beloved Messiah increased it far more in four years than Reagan did in two terms.  In fact, Obama has added more to the deficit that every previous president COMBINED.  He’s borrowed more money per median American household than the median American household EARNS in a year.  I only hope America can survive four more years of the worst president in history/

        • HaywoodJablomie

          denny dennison ElizabethDeFranco edgineer
Sorry. that’s a leftwing LIE.  It was the leftwing ACLU which won a class action lawsuit demanding that court rule that the loons could not be institutionalized against their will.  The ACLU won, the doors of the loony bins were thrown open, and instant “homeless” problem.
The leftwing propaganda machine has brainwashed the shallow and the gullible to blame Reagan solely because the ACLU’s lawsuit win occurred while Reagan was president.

denny dennison edgineer  BS. The US Supreme Court ruled State incarceration laws unconstitutional in the early 1970s. This forced the States to close their asylums. The APP then convinced the States that medication was a viable alternative to therapy. Net result, we turned the country into one big asylum with dangerous psychotics hopefully self medicating.

          edgineer denny dennison *Bingo*!

        • MikeYoung

denny dennison edgineer If this Chronology of Mental Health in the United States is correct, and I see no reason why it would not be, then yes, Reagan de-funded Mental Health Facilities and closed many of them down through out the nation, but since Reagan has been out of office and has since passed away, we have been through at least 3 other presidents to date at least 2 terms with Bush and now 2 terms with Obama and both President have the power and authority to reopen and refund these facilities, or build new ones, and neither of the Presidents have even attempted to do so. Can’t lay this Mental Health mess just on Reagan alone.

        • MikeYoung

edgineer MikeYoung denny dennison a lier No, why should I be institutionalized, the government did and does funds Mental Institutions by the way of tax dollars, how else do you think people can be observed by Court Order for a period of 72 hours for observation. My mother used to work at a State Hospital for the mentally insane and she was paid by tax dollars. By the way, I am an Independent leaning Libertarian, I would never lower or degrade myself by becoming or voting Democrat. I have said this before, and I will say it again, the Permit process should be totally eliminated. Why should a business man/woman need to request a Permission Slip from a Municipality, City County or State in order to open a business and engage in a legal activity as their livelihood. They should not even have to they should just be able to open shop and begin their businesses. A Permission Slip from the Local Municipality City, County or State is an Infringement on the Business owners Rights to conduct their Livelihood. A Government at any level should not have the authority to demand a permission Slip be requested by the Potential Business owner Furthermore who gave the Government the authority to demand a Permission Slip from the potential Business owner, where does this authority come from and how did the Government obtain this authority.

    • ElizabethDeFranco

MikeYoung~This entire odious process of “seeking permission” to engage in entrepreneurial endeavors probably stems from the “Progressive” policy which seeks to either “punish” all such activity or somehow derive some monetary gain from the hard work of other people. Of course, that’s just my personal opinion.

    • JerryChapman

MikeYoung Mike, as a business owner and more importantly, as a consumer, I have no problem with new businesses being required to apply for a permit. A business permit is supposed to create a level of protection for the consumer. The city/county and/or permitting agency is supposed to vet these new businesses to weed out any “snake oil salesmen.” If the permit process is not providing that security you have every right to complain, but if they are, be thankful.

      • MikeYoung

JerryChapman MikeYoung No, the Permit Process is only designed as a Control tactic to limit Competition. The Consumer of Products that are or are not sold is the only entity we need to control what business they want or don’t want. If a consumer does not want or need the product, they simply won’ make the purchase or even frequent the Store or business , the permitting Process needs to be done away with altogether.
The potential customer can vet the business themselves, and decide what businesses will be successful and what ones will fail due to a lack of customers. Without customers dollars, a business no matter how good or bad the product is will fail if no or very few customers buys their products, we don’t need a government agency to tell the customers what business are good or bad, and we certainly don’t need a permitting Process.

        • JerryChapman

MikeYoung JerryChapman Mike, I’m not expressing an opinion. What I’ve said is fact and well documented. Unlike you I have 30 plus years of business under my belt as well as a degree in business. What you propose would strip consumers of a layer of protection exposing them to hucksters and schiesters. Your middle school classmates might buy your line of BS but you’ve wondered into a grown up conversation and need to excuse yourself.

        • MichaelHelle

          JerryChapman
I don’t have a business degree nor do I own a business. At best I have taken a few business classes while in College, perhaps I am crazy, but isn’t there already “hucksters and schiesters” peddling wares even with the permit process?
Just from my little experience at farmers markets and flea markets and other such places it always seems to me that the snake oil salesmen always has the loneliest table.
My point being that many people in society are wise to potential rip offs and even if they are not it still seems to me that people will defraud the ignorant out of their money, regardless.
Now all of that being said. I actually support a permit process for businesses as long as it is a much larger express route and only used to simply verify a new business is opening.

    • flameworker2

MikeYoung If all businesses were run perfectly, then I’d be okay with your idea.  But as a former health inspector, you have no idea how disgusting some brand new restaurants are before they’ve been thoroughly inspected.  I’ve had owners argue with me that it’s perfectly okay to have open containers of raw chicken that are slopping raw yuck onto prepared salads.  But hey, the dressing will cover it up, right?

      • MikeYoung

flameworker2 MikeYoung Flameworker2, are you the same type of Health Inspector that would force a Homeless shelter to throw out 1500 lbs of Deer meat that was donated by local hunters like they did in a Louisiana Homeless shelter? Deer Meat has been eaten for centuries and nobody has become ill from it, yet the Health Department Inspectors in Louisiana ordered this fresh deer meat that was donated by local hunters to not only be thrown into the dumpster, they also ordered Bleech to be poured over it so nobody could pull it out of the dumpster,  clean it up, then cook it and serve it to the homeless people. Deer meat is an excellent source of protein and it is low in fat, would you approve of this as well.

  • ElizabethDeFranco

JimSnape denny dennison ElizabethDeFranco~Exactly! CA has truly suffered the misfortune of being run almost exclusively by Leftist lunatics in Sacramento & throughout a wide swath of the state–which explains the abysmal state of their economy right now. Has anyone else noticed how closely Leftist loons resembles locusts? In CA the situation has gotten so bad, some of these fools are migrating to surrounding states & slowly passing their idiotic “progressive” policies there as well. They are like locusts as they consume & destroy everything around them & then move on to “greener pastures” in the hopes (presumably) that fresh scenery will mean a change in circumstance, when they are carrying the seeds of their own pestilence & destruction with them . . .
