Perry hits back at Trump: He may not know it’s the Fed’s job to secure the border, not the state

Rick Perry responded this morning to Donald Trump’s criticism that he failed in Texas to help secure the border. One of the first things that Rick Perry points out is that it’s not the job of the state to secure the border, but rather the federal government, and suggests that Trump doesn’t know that.

Watch:

It’s this kind of back and forth that doesn’t bother me. In fact, I think Trump may be overstating Perry’s ‘failure’ a bit to get under Perry’s skin. After all, Perry did lie about Trump’s comments and you know the old saying, what’s good for the goose is good for the gander.

But Perry is right in that the feds are supposed to do it and Obama did make it clear he wasn’t going to do it. The fact that Perry mobilized his own state resources to help at the border is admirable. We supported him for that then and we support him now in that regard.

I’m not anti-Perry at all. I like the guy and think he would make a good president. I just wish he wouldn’t have piled on against Trump with everyone else, especially the way he did. That hurt him in my book and it’s gonna take a while to undo that.
