Romney answers a question on Perry’s remarks about Romneycare being a socialist failure, with Perry responding by hitting Romney over his flip-flops. The problem is, to quote @rsmccain, it turned into a “resist we much” moment for Perry:

This Romneycare just eliminates him for me. I can’t get past it.

    • I think Perry’s illegal immigration stance is MUCH worse than Romney’s health care. I mean, at least Romney can make some sort of twisted tenth amendment argument out of his. Perry has called conservatives racists and heartless in the last two debates for not agreeing that illegal immigrants should get preferential treatment with regards to education over American citizens. Perry can go to hell.

      • Anonymous

I was with you up to that last statement. I woudn’t wish that on anybody.

    • Anonymous

I’ve got a much bigger problem with Perry’s position on illegals and the fact he was Al Gore’s Texas campaign manager! And he calls Mitt a flopper and not a conservative? Give it a rest Rick. Those are two deal killers for me.

    • Truth be told, Romney would have learned his lesson about that. It’s a mistake he won’t repeat.— The real story here is how Perry says that if you don’t agree with him about funding education for Illegal Immigrants, then you have no heart… Put that fact together with the OTHER fact that MOST OF HIS OWN BASE disagrees with him… By Perry’s own definition, MOST of his own base has no heart….. Hmmmmmmm, now knowing that, why would anyone want to nominate Perry?

    • JE

How’d we get past it in the last election? We liked it, we wrote ar5ticles about how smart it was……but now we’ve changed? We someone just found a letter Reagan wrote where he talks about a Romney like plan for healthcare…….what? Reagan?

You do recall that Romney and the Heritage Foundation worked together on the MA care issue. The conservative scholars said it had been under consideration for decades. Golly, could that same republican/conservative healthcare planning be linked with The Ronald Reagan letter?

Perry is so much the better candidate, I just wish he could debate more effectively.

    • Anonymous

      My thoughts exactly.

    • JE

The better candidate? It’s his stances on issues that he can’t defend. He knows he messed up and now he’s lacking confidence in himself. We call that self defeating behavior. We call it flip floping because it is. Rick perry the college educated c and d student can’t get it together because he’s pulled himself apart. He is his own undoing.

      • Anonymous

Right and because Romney is better at debating or “presenting rehearsed lines” he won’t be a phony in the White House? Romney lacks BALLS. He will not address any fundamental issue in any way. He will tinker around the edges and enforce man-made global warming rules.

Mittens is a “no” for me.

    • JRNASH

Palin problem… English speaking?? The woman would cut these characters to ribbons in a debate and she speaks better English than anyone you can name. You sure you’re not for Obama?

      • Was that a joke? She didn’t even cut Biden to ribbons in their debate, and he’s a moron. As for being the queen of the English language….really?

“He who warned, uh, the British that they weren’t going to be taking away our arms uh by ringing those bells and making sure as he’s riding his horse through town to send those warning shots and bells that we were going to be secure and we were going to be free and we were going to be armed.”

It’s ok to like the woman, but let’s not pretend she’s something she’s not.

        • Brian Carter

Actually, she handily defeated Biden. There are only two times McCain came even with Obama using the RCP average for electoral votes: he led Obama when he nominated Palin; and then several weeks later, following the VP debate, they pulled even.

I’m not saying her English is perfect, but she is coherent and defeated Biden.

You are totally wrong about the Revere quote. She deliberately setup the media on that referring to the lesser known aspect of Revere’s ride. She was even vindicated by some of the most liberal historians: Revere warned the British we would not give up our arms, we’d fight.

        • Anonymous

Only conservatives are judged by momentary slips of the tongue when speaking off the cuff. Liberals get away with it because the media recognizes these types of slips for what they are. That’s how Joe Biden can get away with his gaffe’s and Obama gets away with such stinkers as there being 57 states.

Sarah Palin is the most articulate politician out there. Is she perfect? No. Nobody is. But she’s a helluva a lot better speaker than the SCOAMF in the White House. Barack Obama can’t put three words together in sentence without an “uh” or an “um” in between two of them.

Pay attention next time you see both of them in interviews. Palin is head and shoulders more articulate than Barack Obama.

          • Anonymous

And note that when anyone is quoting Obama in print, the ums and ers are redacted, and the punctuation is entered to make sense. But when Palin’s spoken word is quoted in print, her regional accent is quoted phonetically, every hesitation is spelled out, and its all punctuated to make her look stupid.

Keep in mind always that there is no punctuation in spoken word. There is only expression, and emphasis, and the nuance of tone of voice. When you read what someone has said, it is being punctuated by the reporter.

But this has been going on for so long that the public is tired of it. The media exposed itself big time in 2008 when it went totally bonkers over trying to destroy Palin. This may be the first time in American history that the political media has zero credibility.

She has destroyed the political media and she hasn’t even entered the race yet.

As a life long fan of political theater, it has never been better than this.

        • I thought she did great against Biteme. She would have done better against dear leader as well except McCain’s team kept reigning her in.

      • Anonymous

First she has to get up to the plate…

I don’t have any inside info but i can tell you that the GOP and MSM don’t want Palin because she is a threat to unmasking both for what they really are. What they want is to discourage her from running because as Rush says “They tell you who they fear” every time. I put you in that same category. You fear her because your man cannot beat her. So you just like the GOP and MSM you try to marginalize her with crap like she is “unelectible”. Well we will see who is still standing at the end and It won’t be Frick and Frack (Romney and Perry) it will be the lady from Wasilla our next president!

    • What is so conservative about giving tuition benefits to illegals? Plus accusing other conservatives that disagrees with his immigration position “heartless”?

    • What is so conservative of mandating 12yr old girls with HPV vaccine?

      • Anonymous

i am a practical conservative not a purist conservative, i recognize that most problems especially the economic ones can be solved using the conservative approach but not all, sometimes the realities on the ground have to be taken into account, and you have to be wise enough to be flexible in your approach, perry on the whole has a sound conservative record other wise he would not have been elected in texas three times over, as for the tuition and vaccine issues i think the realities on the ground dictated that the solution was in the middle, i am yet to hear a conservative solution to those problems, people are quick to criticize and yet have no ideas of their own that work, if you have a conservative idea make sure it works i am yet to hear one.

  • between the two, Id rather have Perry. he may not be as suave as Romney, but atleast he’s real. My only issue is Perry letting Illegals have basically a free education compared to the rest of us. I live in Texas and think this BLOWS. I understand what he’s saying, just dont agree that we should be offering anything, as the other candidates said, like a magnet for illegals.

    • Anonymous

At least he is real what? It appears from all that is starting to surface that he is a real phoney. Sorry to disappoint you all but Perry is not what you want to put in the white house. Keep listening for the rest of the story.

    • Real? You call Perry real? He lied about his book. He lied about only $5000 donations from Merck. He lied about that story of a cancer woman who according to him lobbied for the vaccine. Check out Drudgereport.com for the fact checking. PLEASE

        Palin2012!!

    • Anonymous

So, you support Perry in spite of the inconvienient truth that he supports illegal immigrants?? Other than the economy/debt, there is no other single issue as important as illegal immigration and Perry is on the same side as Obama, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, et al. Anyone with any conservative convictions should not vote for Perry because of this single asinine position – period. They don’t even offer in-state tuition to illegals in Massachusetts and the democrats have super majorities in the house, senate and hold the governor’s office. Wake up and think about it!

  • Anonymous

Perry had a great line but it was so under delivered.

Over all I did not like the debate. I like the tea party CNN debate alot better. The Fox debate, all the candidates were just to happy and not serious. The crowd cheer for everything!!!!! It just seem like reality show on Who Wants To Be President!! It is just to much republican, good democrats bad and that just is not reality!!! There is so much corruption in both parties!! I want to see members of congress go to jail!

So, therefore i’m going to hold out for the great tease! At least she is talking about the corruption. I really like the fact that she has not said anything at all positive about the GOP in her last two speeches. It seams like she wants to clean house!!!

On what reasonable basis might one support Perry? The man is an absolute empty suit who repeats (poorly, I might add) the same paper thin lines about about his wonderful tenure as governor. We need someone who can beat Obama. That is the objective. We need to stop indulging in these fairy tales that Perry is the new Ronald Reagan. He isn’t – by a long shot. Romney may not be every conservative’s dream candidate, but at least he can complete a sentence – and thought – in a manner that inspires confidence in the electorate. Not so with mouth-breather.

          • Anonymous

      • Jack Bryan

Objective fact reporting? When has the media ever done that? (sarc) Actually, I kind of feel a little nostalgia for that special that Ross Perot did back in ’92. No distractions, just a half hour for one candidate to make their case. (Please note that this doesn’t mean I’m advocating a 3rd party)

        • Anonymous

I remember that! I know this sounds weird, but I think the American people would be better served with a debate format that is similar to what they do with Miss America contestants. Everyone gets the same question, no one can hear the other candidates’ answers and everyone gets equal time. Spend and hour and a half that way, then have a half-hour roundtable discussion at the end. As it is, no candidate can express more than generic talking points and the press controls the direction of the debate.

          • Frederick

I don’t know about the Miss America contestant thingy, but I agree. These game show formats suck. I’ve been complaining about them from day one.

Perry is for in-state tuition for children of illegals and if you don’t, you are, according to Perry, heartless. I guess we conservatives are heartless then, Gov. He won’t win in a general election regardless of Obama’s weakness. I can’t stomach the thought of another folksy talking Texan running for president – with all due respect to W. Perry seems in over his head trying to answer questions clearly and intelligently. I’m a lot more impressed with Romney. Mitt has a much better understanding of all the issues than Rick.

Perry must not be nominated. i’m sorry.

  • Anonymous

    That was quick.

It’s encouraging to see the discontent with Perry growing. If we can only climb off the “Palin2012” bandwagon, we can start focusing our support on a viable candidate.

    • Anonymous

      Who?

      • Anonymous

Sorry…some latency in postings. Romney is the most viable candidate among those in the race (including Palin). Now, if Paul Ryan were to reverse course and enter the race, my assessment would change. Palin is a liabililty. She’s a more folksy version of Bachman without the deer-in-the-headlights stare. Don’t misunderstand – she’s been great for the conservative wing of the party; she needs to continue to focus her efforts on building grassroots support for the Republican nominee.

        • Anonymous

What you just wrote is why Palin will run. She needs something to do anyway.

        • If Romney gets to kiss the brass ring and get the nomination, I will sit out the election. Or I will vote third party deliberately. I am willing to throw away the country just to spite him.

        • uh… romney has problems too. obviously, romneycare. and flip-flopping on several issues. he’s a panderer, a typical insincere politician. meanhile, palin is very genuine and stays grounded in conservative principles, unlike pandering, flip-flopping romney.

          • If Romney gets in, Obamacare won’t be repealed. He can’t bear to do it. And he’s a sucker for the non-existent AGW cult and won’t back down from that fraud, either. Deal-breakers IMO.

            • Anonymous

Right… he just said he’ll file an executive order day one granting all 50 states waivers from Obamacare because… HE’s A BIG FAT STINKY LIAR! PHONEY! NOT A “”REAL”” CONSERVATIVE… oh, please…

      • Anonymous

        Wait for it….. RuPaul!!

  • Perry didn’t have the wow factor tonight. Hate to say romney was the shining star tonight.

  • I’ve got to hand it to Romney. He is a good debater.

    • Good debater, but a phony conservative. Not interested in voting for a liberal RINO.

      • Anonymous

Beyond the the healthcare issue, tell me why Mitt is a rino? Are you a Perry supporter? His position on illegals and his earlier support of Gore are both scary as hell to me.

His plan and Obama’s shouldn’t be compared because they are completely different – state v. federal; effecting only the uninsured by using private insurance v. effecting all while undermining private insurance, etc, etc. Mitt’s argument was making those uninsured accountable for their own expenses instead of the state picking up the tab when they go to the IR for basic and catostropic coverage – you know, the same situation we all despise with illegals using the IR as their personal and free HMO – think about it!

Don’t buy into the bogus hype about Mitt’s negatives. The liberal press here in Boston started it and have been trying to destroy him ever since he ran against Ted Kennedy. Destroy what you fear – it was created by the libs. Mitt’s the real deal and he’s bright as hell. And it shows when he debates c and d student Perry. Mitt got his Harvard MBA and law degree at the same!

For the nomination debates, I hope they put her between Perry and Romney, so she has equal access. The father of socialized medicine, and a drug company’s best selling distributer in Texas, won’t have a chance.

    • Frederick

Sarah is so battle tested, and so prepared its unbelievable. Some people fail to look at how much of a real go getter she is. I’ve never seen a politician on the right as patriotically tenacious as her in my life ever. And you’re right. She has the truth on her side.

    • She can debate them all from the road.. why should she stand on a stage with 10 other people and have some network hacks, who get $17m per year for reading a teleprompter ask goofy questions and then say “Governor your response?” I want to see some Lincoln Douglas debates. Name the subject and each candidate can ask each other questions until the cows come home and let the crowd determine the winner.

I give Romney a pass on his state plan, and he says that he would provide waivers to every state if elected for Obamacare. I am a proud Texan, Ron Paul is my favorite, but I want to win this election, and Romney is our best and only choice with a Southern VP running mate like Texas John Cornyn, this brings the East and the West together. At the end of the day, we need to beat Obama up, not fellow Republicans.

Yes, we have a lot of socialism to bear. The idea is to have less of it.
And especially to lessen the weight our children will have to bear.

Our country went from 13 war battered states to the most prosperous country ever on free market capitalism. The socialist ideas have diminished us. Look at the debt, largely from these socialist ideas, that we will pass on to the next generation.

“It is a sin for any generation to borrow more money than it can pay back in that generation.”

This quote from a founding father still, and forever will, rings true.

I want to stop ‘sinning’ like this. The best I can do for the next generation is to lessen the debt as much as possible, and apologize for the debt I still will have to load onto their backs.

    • Mark, why do you think they passed Obamacare, they could’t continue to fund Medicare because people are living longer. The 2700 pages is a roadmap to having the government provide and control everything thus getting more money into the pot and kicking the problem down the road further. As you will soon see, ms. un-electable will demonstrate to you what happens when people from everywhere who are not political, but have common sense and recognize leadership when they see it, get together and vote for their country, not as the pundits say . I could live with Romney, but I love Palin and I will support her with my time and my money and if you think she can’t beat Romney and Perry in all the states she needs to win the whole ball of wax, then you do not know the american people. You do not have to give up on your principals to win. Big Possums Walk Late.

I cannot stand to see these two go back and forth during the debates!!! I wish they would put them to the sides and just talk with other people. I don’t want to hear a 10 – 20 min argument between which of them said what in their book or who was a better governor for their state! I agree with Newt that they need to stop bickering between each other and focus on why they are the best to beat Obama.

I like Herman Cain and Newt is pretty smart and doesn’t take the moderators crap in any debate. I’m not sure about Newt for POTUS but I would definately have him somewhere in the Administration.

“Resist we much”. Now that’s funny.

Yeah, Perry is starting to play the role I first cast him in: George W. Bush’s younger, dumber brother.

  • Ok tell me one politician in America who can make an appearance and sell tickets to it…….not to party hacks who must show up in order to keep their jobs, but to ordinary people ….who will sit in the rain, endure long traffic jams, and pay upwards of $70.00 to see them. You know who that is. I think she will announce she is running (in time to get on all the ballots) and then she will start making appearances accross the country as the big bus rolls. The crowds will be so large that the media will have to cover it (nationally, but for sure the locals will have it on every night) She can pass the hat at each stop to keep the campaign going. She will never have to be in a “debate” until she is number one in the polls…… all of them. Even then she won’t absolutely have to do it. She can continue to let the world know what is causing us to become a banana republic. Crony Capitalism, the political class feeding at the trough RINO and Democrat and the fact that if we get an energy policy that lets us exploit our own resources, millions of people will start to work immediately. The price of gas will drop to $2.00 per gal and single moms and working folks can get to work and have a few bucks left to spend on other neccessaties. Her smile and her optimism are contagous and we will turn the country around and leave the socialist experiment in our rear view mirror. Big Possums Walk Late

Perry looks weak here and it is a warning sign for would be voters. He’ll get torn apart in a debate against Obama. He had a weakness like this come out in the last debate where he stumbled pretty bad as well.

Perry’s immigration record as well as his record supporting the extremist Al Gore are going to haunt him. It’s hard to take his flip flopping criticism seriously when considering his background on those two issues. Furthermore Perry’s delivery stinks. At the same time Romney came back a couple of times with some funny replies and each and every time with a well delivered response. Doing so, Romney demonstrated his ability to actually debate while keeping his composure and actually saying something sensible in response. If you ask me, Romney outdid him last night. That’s not to say Romney doesn’t have the health care issue as baggage.

I’m not sure Americans are ready for another big government, compassionate conservative from Texas just yet. Bush had some real negatives and Perry seems to be of a similar mold.

    • great you want rino, flip flop, romneycare mittens, he should be in the dem. primary.

  • Romney, Santorum, and Gingrich are the only candidates that aren’t complete fools. I’m a moderate republican, which means that I’m a republican with common sense. Really, think about it.
Palin thinks she’s Shakespeare because she makes up words like “refudiate.” Besides that, she has no foreign policy experience, no economic knowledge, no real knowledge to speak of. I can’t believe people believe her.
I’m not sure if Perry is a conservative or a liberal. Really. A lot of what he says is pretty liberal. (Think illegal immigration, Vaccinations…) Besides that, he’s just not very bright. And it seems like the most powerful man in the world should be at least a little intelligent.
I support the Tea Party in a lot of ways, but you’d have to be a complete idiot to believe not raising the debt ceiling is a good move. Yes, I’m talking about Bachmann. This is coming from someone with a degree in Economics.
I won’t waste time on any other candidates because they don’t have a chance and they’re crazy.
    Romney 2012!

You’re a Republican with common sense? So you don’t follow the United States Constitution? What is Romney’s foreign policy experience? Have you seen Romney’s grades? I haven’t. You think raising the debt ceiling is a smart move? So in real life, when you max out your credit cards and can only pay the interest on the debt you owe, you would call up your credit card company and ask them to increase your debt limit? That makes sense to you? Do you think they would do that for you, if your in such bad financial shape, that you can’t even make the minimum payment?

You’re not a Republican James, you’re the one who doesn’t sound very bright. Sarah Palin is the closest to our Founding Fathers of all the candidates. I suggest you read the United States Constitution and Declaration of Independence. That’s what the Tea Party is about.

Don’t waste your time with ignorant comments.

      • There’s a large difference between me and the United States of America. Not raising the debt ceiling would really hurt the economy. So why would you push for a measure to hurt the already struggling economy over a symbolic measure? That doesn’t make sense bud.
However, I feel strongly that the US debt can only hurt us in the long run, and measures MUST be taken to eliminate it. But not raising the debt ceiling would not be the right move.

    • This is about last night’s debate and you turned into another opportunity for Palin bashing.
Being a moderate republican is not something glorious like you think you are. Sarah Palin has a lot more common sense than any of the candidates. Before you speaking bad about Palin, you need to do some serious homework. Going to her website would be a good starting point. If you are unwilling or too lazy to do the homework, then the problem is you, not Palin.
      Sarah America 2012 and 2016.

    • huntsman is perfect for you my friend

  • Yeah, Perry is a moron.

I thought 2012 was a referendum of BHO? If so, then which of the 9 candidates would beat him?

I like Perry even with all his flaws for tuition for the illegal immigration and HPV vaccination and how that was accomplished. However, I have yet decided if I will vote for him or one of the other candidates. I’m looking for a candidate that is strong and can beat BHO.

However, he has done well for our veterans. My parents are a testament to that. Several years ago, my dad sent in a check for his property tax for the year (over 4k). It was returned to him stating that since he was a retired veteran he no longer has to pay for property taxes in the state of Texas. Did you know that?
Secondly, my Dad does not have to pay toll on any of the toll roads in Texas – again this was due to the Governor. Did you know that?

Thirdly, when they go on a trip they leave their vehicle at the DFW Aiport parking lot without having to pay for parking. I’m not talking about the airport parking that is miles away. I’m talking about the one that is in front of the arrivals/departures. If you’ve been to the DFW airport you know what I”m talking about. Did you know that?

It may seem inconsequential to you, but it helps my parents not to have to worry about the added expenses. My dad being a veteran appreciates what Perry and the state of Texas has done for him. Also, remember Texas DOES NOT COLLECT STATE INCOME TAX!

Texas is a rich state and many great Texans are kind. Looking out for our veterans Texas does best!

Setting up a fence on the border is not a solution. We need boots on the ground. I know this to be true since my husband worked on one of the border fences in AZ. It still doesn’t detract illegals from coming on our side. We need manpower, like our National Guard and hire more border patrol agents to man these borders. We need air support that could detect more quickly. I don’t think being against a border fence means one is a liberal. I look at more realistically.

As for subsidizing tuition for illegal immigration, what would you do? Nothing? Let them be a drag in our society – eventually picking up a heftier bill? Oh, I get it – send them back to Mexico – yea right like that is going to happen!

I like Romney, but I don’t know too much about him. He debates very well and he looks more confident and presidential (should that be a criteria?). I will study him more fluidly, but I must mention one thing. In my own opinion, he is the chosen one for the established GOP party. He is co-opted into the GOP and he will tow the line.

Congressman Bachmann is great and she means well – but she will not come close to winning the nomination. So, there is no sense in wasting my vote on her. I think whoever wins the nomination and wins the Presidency in 2012 will be remiss in not picking her as a cabinet member to help clean up house. I think Santorium should be included as well. Santorium is consistent and I like consistency in a person. Is he our George Whitfield of our time?

Mr. Cain is great and has liven up the debates – I think we’ll see more of him, not as a politician, but maybe more as a pundit in the MSM. Great man and his story of survival should get many Americans to thinking about a government run healthcare system.

Congressman Paul – although he has garnered more support he will not be nominated runner for the GOP. He’s too way out there – sometimes I think he should be in the Democratic side – scary. He does have valid points in the Federal reserve and our dollar being backed up by the gold – but his foreign policy is scary – too scary.

Former Speaker Gingrich – I like him for his historical and foreign policy knowledge. I think as an adviser to the our next President would benefit our country.

Did I missed anyone? If so, I apologize in advance – it must mean they are not worth mentioning.

Finally, you may not agree with all I said, but that is the nature of the beast. 😉
