Person of interest arrested for sending Ricin-laced letters to Obama and Bloomberg

KSLA News 12 Shreveport, Louisiana News Weather

KSLA – A New Boston man is being questioned by the FBI and items have been taken from his home in connection with the investigation into ricin-laced letters sent to President Barack Obama, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, and the gun control lobbying group Mayors Against Illegal Guns.

Agents could be seen late Thursday night removing items from the South Maple Street home of a man identified by neighbors as Nathaniel Richardson. Neighbors told KSLA News 12’s Fred Gamble that he is an Army Veteran who works at the Red River Army Depot.

Both Richardson and his wife were questioned at their New Boston home, where they live with their five children. Initial reports stated that Richardson had been questioned at his workplace and later at his home. Gamble reported that the wife had been in the back seat of a law enforcement unit before being returned to the house.

The ArkLaTex became ground zero in the hunt for the source of the letters when authorities discovered that the letters, sent to Obama and N.Y. City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, were distributed out of the main branch of the post office in Shreveport.

The Shreveport postal center handles mail from Louisiana, Texas and Arkansas, so the letters could have come from any of those states.

According to CBS News, law enforcement sources say the ricin is of poor quality and is a low-level, crudely made poison.

Authorities revealed on Thursday that a third such letter, addressed to Obama, is still being tested. But CBS News reports that the letter bears the same postmark, and, from all appearances seems to be connected to the other two. All three letters have a May 20th and Shreveport postmark.

These sorts of “attacks” never work. Foolish attempt.

    • cabensg

The Sentinel They work even less effectively if stupidly executed.

  • Orangeone

Very easy to set someone up to further a gun control and “veterans need to be stripped of gun rights” agenda.

Also the FBI has a nasty little habit of announcing a person of interest when they become stumped by an investigation. It tends to take the pressure and media focus away from themselves.

      • Orangeone

mikemc1970 Orangeone Yes!  And the FBI works for Barky Boy don’t they.  I’m still waiting for anything they have done with Benghazi…..

  • I’d like to see millions of letters sent to these corrupt politicians but filled with words of disgust for their job performance since Obeyme took office.
These morons that send Ricin only further the left’s big brother agenda.  The left is always looking for any crisis to help them make government bigger and to take America’s eyes off what they are really doing..

  • njmom

What a shame for the five children to lose their father to prison over such a stupid act!

    • sDee

njmom  Not clear yet he did anything. Nothing is what it seems.

Good thing he didn’t do a video too… this case would be open and shut then.
Agreed. He could just be another patsy to take a fall for a corrupt regime. Or not… we’ll see.

  • Rshill7

Have you arrested any “persons of interest” in the quadriplicate scandals yet?
I didn’t think so. As long as you give yourselves a good talking to, that’ll suffice. I’m behind you folks 100% and coincidentally wearing me steel-toe cowboy boots.
bend over ever so slightly and “Say cheese”!

    • Orangeone

Rshill7 They are too busy making up laws to target those that slander Islam. The funny part, we are telling the truth so it isn’t slander when spoken or libel when written.

It does seem to me that this guy and his wife, could be or not be the one’s who actually sent the letter’s.  Nonetheless, he is going to have a rough row to hoe, even if he is not a guilty party due to bad press, and perhaps even bad FBI investigations. Just going on what the press is doing to the ability of the FBI, which this administration through under the infamous bus from the get-go.  Just thinking in Louisiana …

  • tencole

Boy talk about trying to create a distraction.
I would bet that Obama….and all previous POTUS….received such things frequently…..why is this particular one so different, that it warrants this much attention ??

    • Las1

tencole  Bloomberg thinks so as well….
      “‘There’s always threats,
unfortunately. That comes with the job,
      ‘There’s always threats,
unfortunately. That comes with the job,”
But of course for the media it’s always a cause if they can pin it on their made-up list of “usual suspects”.

  • DANEgerus

Anti-Gun nuts are in a frenzy over Ricin letters, maybe Ricin should be illegal… oh wait…

  • DHardy

They most likely sent the letters themselves so that they could target someone they don’t like…

  • jdbaird

This has to be a set up, why would someone wait 6 weeks after the gun control debate has been put to rest (for the time being) and then make a feeble attempt at assassinating the president and Bloomberg? I don’t believe anyone but a liberal could be that stupid. My thought is that he’s wanted for something else and they’re going to pin this on him and let him off easy for whatever else he’s wanted for under the provision that he’s forbidden from talking to the press. And bingo they have their “right wing terrorist” that they’ve been hoping for.

    • Orangeone

jdbaird And willingly turns in his guns. He’s a vet.

      • jdbaird

Orangeone jdbaird Yeah, it just doesn’t add up, it’s too convenient.

  • Las1

And of course it took the FBI five days to announce the discovery.
    N O W   W H Y   W O U L D   T H A T   BE  ?

    • Orangeone

      Las1 Friday news drop?

      • Las1

Orangeone Las1  I think it’s more  that it was held back to provide cover against the on-going saga of IRS-Gate, Bengazi-Gate, AP,Fox,CBS-Gate.   They’re a-wishin’-and-a-prayin’ it’s some white, conservative,Tea Party, former Marine, whoever they hate most in their lexicon of evil targets to have another Newtown moment of distraction shielding the criminal in the White House.

Any distraction that could possibly, maybe, perchance, might happen, surely finger a right-wing extremist for a Ricin attack… well that would just be so nice to obsess over instead of the move-along-folks-nothing-to-see-here scandals rocking the foundation of Obama-Nation.
Thanks for your patience there my fluffy orange kitty at my bad grammar and syntax… Today it’s too hot… and I don’t do syntax on hot days.
