Petition Victory: First Lady Will NOT Give Speech At High School Graduation

Last week The Right Scoop brought you the story of the high school students and families in Kansas who started a petition objecting the plan to have Michelle Obama speak at a graduation ceremony.

Among the students’ concerns were the limited seating and tickets, and the nature of the speech and the speaker overshadowing the graduates’ “big day.” Those students and families can now rest at ease, as the petition has worked and Mrs. Obama will not be giving her Brown v Board of Education memorial speech at their graduation ceremony.

The White House announced via email this week that the First Lady’s speech was being rescheduled to a different event.

NEW DATE: High Schools in the Topeka, KS Public School District on May 16 at 6:00 PM (Central)

The First Lady will deliver remarks at a “Senior Recognition Day” to celebrate seniors from high schools in the Topeka, KS Public School District on May 16. This will take place the day before each high school holds their official graduation ceremony.

The remarks will celebrate the achievements of the graduating class of high school seniors in Topeka, home of the landmark U.S. Supreme Court case, Brown v. Board of Education, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year.

Despite the histrionics of serially aggrieved liberals, this is great news and a victory for all of the students, who will now be able to entertain their family and friends, with none of the roadblocks that would result from the pomp and circumstance of an Obama visit, and will allow the day to be about them instead of a political speech from a never-ending campaign.

Anyone who tries to make it about something else is just a dishonest dealer who would rather Michelle Obama have the moment than the kids who the ceremony is actually supposed to be about.
