Police hunt for assailant who yelled ‘what’s up cracker!’ before attacking and murdering male

A Minneapolis man is dead after being attacked by an assailant who called him a “cracker,” and then stabbed him in the neck multiple times. The racial detail is being left out of many news reports about the case.

From the Minneapolis Star Tribune:

Quanan MachacekMinneapolis police on Friday night warned that a man sought in a fatal stabbing this week is at large and is a possible danger to anyone who might confront him.

They’re asking that anyone who sees the suspect, Quanan L. Machacek, or knows of his whereabouts to call 911.

Machacek, 26, of Minneapolis, was charged Friday with the first-degree murder of Cody Rasche, 25, also of Minneapolis, on Wednesday. Noting a high flight risk, a judge who issued a nationwide warrant set a high bail of $2 million.

Police were called to the 2400 block of Ogema Place, where Rasche lived, shortly after 9:30 p.m. Wednesday. They found him lying in a pool of blood with several people huddled over him, trying to stop the bleeding. He was pronounced dead at Hennepin County Medical Center.

The charges allege the slaying happened this way:

Rasche’s girlfriend told police she and Rasche had been walking when a man approached and yelled, “What’s up, Cracker! Come outside the fence and fight.”

The two argued, and Rasche walked outside the fence. The suspect pulled Rasche toward the ground by his sweater and began punching him in the face. Rasche tried to defend himself, but the suspect again pulled him to the ground by his sweater and stabbed him in the neck several times.

The suspect ran away as Rasche stood up, grabbed his neck and collapsed.

A source tells me that the attacker was a Native American, but this hasn’t been confirmed by any news source, since they tend to stay away from race whenever the victim is Caucasian. No doubt this would make for large headlines if it had been a racial epithet against any minority group.
