Psaki: Israel has a right to defend itself until it gets too violent

State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki was asked by Wolf Blitzer if Israel is going too far in their response to Hamas rockets. Psaki responds that the State Department believes Israel has the right to defend itself, but now that it’s gotten violent there needs to be a cease-fire:

BLITZER: Is Israel going too far?

PSAKI: Well, Israel — I think we’ve long believed and still continue to believe that they will have the right to defend themselves. And when you have indiscriminate rocket attacks threatening your people; when you have terrorists coming into tunnels they have every right to do that.

But at the same time, we’ve been calling for a cease-fire, as has the U.N. This is what the secretary is focused on because the violence has reaped a point where it needs to pause, it needs to stop and we need to find a way to find a diplomatic solution.
