Rand Paul was on with Hannity last night to discuss the way forward in dealing with Democrats and our fiscal situation. Great interview:

Rand Paul is one of the few who I trust in congress. He is spot on here.

I’m moving into the camp of firing them all – especially the pResident.

Term limits sounds like a great thing to implement. Then the Reid’s, Pelosi’s and other bloodsuckers can’t be career politicians who get rich while making America weaker.

    • Orangeone

Please keep in mind that Rand Paul hearts illegal aliens, thinks it’s okay that they have violated our federal immigration and taxation laws and are living off public assistance, draining the taxpayers that fund schools, hospitals, etc.

      • Sober_Thinking

I’m okay with him if he implements the Fair Tax… because that will even things out a bit.

I despise illegal aliens… I consider them one of the top 3 most dangerous things to our country.

What bothers me is everyone who is a super hero, seems to have one or two skeletons in the closet (except maybe Allen West or perhaps Michelle Bachman).

You’re right that this is a big red flag… but he’s sound on practically everything else.

We need heroes now. Sadly, they are few and far between. We may need to lower our standards a bit after too long… but we’ll keep searching until we get to that sad point.

        :)

        • Orangeone

I hear you.  I am unwilling to lower the bar and accept that illegals can enter and remain in our country, draw from our tax dollar supported services, receive college “grants and scholarships” rather than US citizens, get a tax-free card by paying a $500 fine.  Look at your paycheck. Mine fed taxes are higher than that each pay period, let alone over 10-30 years.  For anyone that thinks we can’t round up and kick out 12 million illegals I say “oh yes we can”. We can start with the prisons, 25% of the occupants are illegals that we are spending tens of thousands of dollars on annually.
Take a look at this.  An illegal alien gets a kidney transplant.  http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2012-12-09/news/ct-met-illegal-immigrant-kidney-transplant-20121209_1_illegal-immigrant-kidney-transplant-liver-transplant.  He is quoted as saying: “But he remains frustrated with a health care system that he worries might leave out an untold number of illegal immigrants in need of lifesaving treatments.”  Enter ObamaCare.  So an American citizen is denied this kidney transplant. Sick, simply sick.

          • Sober_Thinking

I’m not disputing you at all. After the corrupt, criminal, domestic terrorists known as the Mainstream Media, I think illegal aliens are the second most destructive thing to America. I’m utterly sickened that they are allowed to invade, occupy and infest this nation while drawing on our resources and wealth – illegally. Santuary cities like San Francisco should have all federal funds cut off to them immediately – providing safe harbor for these criminals is unconscionable.

That being said, though we keep looking, we may not ever find the “perfect” candidate or leader… they all seem to have a flaw or two. Look at our debate over Bachman, Santorum, Gingrich, and Paul during the last GOP primary. We all “argued” or debated the merits of who we backed and were quick to point out the flaws of some better candidates than Romney… We all have a standard we won’t lower for who we want in office… which is good.

So, I keep looking for an Allen West or someone who is above reproach… someone who is as close to the perfect conservative that we can find (Mark Levin? Bill Whittle? Rush Limbaugh?). Until we find that person, IF we are forced to “settle” again on someone (ugh), then I might be okay with someone like Rand Paul – who does have fleas but not as many as other possible candidates.

Your point is well taken. We should NOT have to compromise or settle. And hopefully the cream will rise to the top and we won’t have to.

            :)

            • Orangeone

I think that great candidate is among us and is focusing on the job they’ve been elected to do and is not out campaigning but watching, listening and learning from what the left is doing.  Paul worries me not just with illegals but with what I don’t yet know.

    • http://politicalknow.blogspot.com/ SheerPolitics

Maybe it’s because I’m older, but I get irritated every time politicians (mostly republicans) bring up cutting “entitlements” like they’re talking about people mooching off of welfare. What they’re talking about is Social Security, something we were forced to pay into and which got in trouble when Congress started dipping into it. They caused the problem and then they want to screw my generation (people at the tail end of the baby boomers…mid-forties to mid-fifties) when the stock market stinks and many of our investments have gone to pot. They never really provide a clear blueprint except raising the age again or cutting benefits for those younger than 55. No 50 is NOT early enough to allow time for people to save enough up to make up the difference. Meanwhile Congress gets their cushy pensions and insurance guaranteed. Why don’t they cut some of THEIR entitlements.

For you younger guys, after you get into your 40s if there is a layoff it is MUCH harder to get employment at the same or similar level. I’ve been there. (The dirty little secret is companies pay health insurance based on the age of their employees overall. So if they have younger workers, they’re cheaper to insure. Which is the main reason they go for “fresh outs” …people right out of college…instead of someone with maturity and experience.)

      • Sober_Thinking

I think you make some very valid points here. Btw, I’m 50 now.

As we get older, it is indeed harder and harder to find decent work. And we have been held at gun point to hand over money for Social Security (SS). So it’s hard to simply cut it off and it’s wrong to screw those who were forced unwillingly to pay into it.

Perhaps if we said that those who are 16 and below, starting from now on, they will not pay for SS… and they will not receive SS. So those who are 17 and above (or whatever cutoff age we want) will continue to pay into it and receive it but over time, SS will phase out and go away for good. In other words, simply stop making pay for it or receive it from here on out – but honor those who have been forced to pay into it… until they die. Just a thought.

        • http://politicalknow.blogspot.com/ SheerPolitics

I agree. I think it should be phased out. But it needs to be done slow enough so you can provide for those who are on it now or about to be, but allow those who are younger some other options. However, I get nervous when you have Republicans saying that, while they will protect those on SS now, they start talking about changes to those 55 and below (I’m 53). The earlier generations used to have pensions (although some of those have gone into default when the company was dipping into the program).

Most of us either have to do it ourselves or maybe have a company 401K. The opportunities of the earlier generations are just not there today. My father got a great early retirement deal when his company was taken over. He was able to retire at 55 with a full retirement. You don’t get those deals today. You get sent home with your life in a box and a check for your leftover vacation time.

          • Sober_Thinking

            Too true.

Very depressing and flat out wrong to treat people like that.

I saw a few of those on facebook this week… sigh.

      • Sober_Thinking

Sucks so much. I’m now taxed 3x more than I was a day or two ago.

        • http://no-apologies-round2.blogspot.com/ AmericanborninCanada

Yeah. I have to shake my head at all the fools who think obamacare is free, will be great and no taxes for the middle class.

          • Rshill7

They’ll need to be awaken from their collective stupor.

            Obama is Stuporman!

Able to leap the constitution in a single bound. Faster than an EO on ice. More powerful than 3 day old cooked brussel sprouts left on the stove.

            Is he great or what?

            Answer: what.

            • http://no-apologies-round2.blogspot.com/ AmericanborninCanada

What. Well we need to find some kryptonite…

PS- you mentioned kissing stretch and brussle sprouts on the same thread on the same day. Are you trying to get rid of me?

    • BlueGood

      OH MY F**KING GOD…..

      Shaking my head in wonderment…..

      • Sober_Thinking

ROFL! I’m not laughing at your anger – you said something similar to what I’m thinking and nailed it regarding how I feel. As part of the so-called “middle class”, I’m now taxed 3x – thank you congress. Thanks for buckling yet again. Man, the words I want to use… the names I want to call them. (shivver)

I’m laughing because it’s crazy how stupid people are becoming in America. And if I don’t start laughing, well, The Hulk might come out… “And you wouldn’t like me when I’m angry.”

        ;)

        • MiketheMarine

I have had that exact conversation three different times today in my office with three different people. How have humans so over-populate the planet? as stupid as people are, in general, and in groups that you would think we’d have all drown or been eaten by various predators. I am amazed that the human race has managed to survive at all.

          • Sober_Thinking

We survived by being the “alpha” predator. Sadly, that also includes a bit of cannibalism.

I agree with you… but by the grace of God Himself, we’d all be dead long ago.

            • MiketheMarine

At least once a day I see something someone has done or is doing and just do the face palm/ head shake and wonder to myself, “How, the hell, is that pinhead going to make it home alive?”

              • Sober_Thinking

I’m with you my friend. :)

          • Boris_Badenoff

    • MiketheMarine

I don’t trust snopes even a little bit. They’ve been caught red handed several different times scrubbing Maobama stories. Please, find a different reference because the couple running snopes don’t care about facts any more than politicians do.

      • Sober_Thinking

Sorry m8… it was a link a friend shared. However, your suggestion is noted. I hate “scrubbers” and I appreciate you letting me know.

I find it interesting though that even Snopes confirms this evil that’s hitting everyone.

        • MiketheMarine

Maybe they, like most pinheaded democrats, are starting to recognize the man behind the curtain, pulling the strings.

Wizard of Oz reference, if you missed it.

“Pay no mind to that man behind the curtain, I am the almighty OZ”

          • Sober_Thinking

            :)

You may be giving them too much credit. Excellent reference though. Perfect example.

            • MiketheMarine

I had a sudden lucid moment. Happens from time to time. LOL

              • Sober_Thinking

                :)

Reminds me of “Silent Lucidity”. Pretty song… lots of interesting meaning and images.

                Lyrics:

                Hush now don’t you cry
Wipe away the teardrop from your eye
                You’re lying safe in bed
It was all a bad dream spinning in your head
Your mind tricked you to feel the pain
Of someone close to you leaving the game of life
So here it is another chance
Wide awake you face the day
Your dream is over or has it just begun

                There’s a place I like to hide
A doorway that I run through in the night
                Relax child, you were there
But only didn’t realize and you were scared
It’s a place where you will learn
To face your fears retrace the years
And ride the whims of your mind
                Commanding in another world
                Suddenly you hear and see
                This magic new dimension
                I-will be watching over you
I-I’m gonna help you see it though
I-will protect you in the night
I-I’m smiling next to you in silent lucidity

If you open your mind for me
You won’t rely on open eyes to see
The walls you build within come tumbling down
And a new world will begin
Living twice at once you learn
You’re safe from pain in the dream domain
A soul set free to fly
A round trip journey in your head
Master of Illusion can you realize
Your dream’s alive you can be the guide but
                (I) will be watching over you
                (I) I’m gonna help you see it though
                (I) will protect you in the night
                (I) I’m smiling next to you

Oh man,I like this dude.I just listened to this one.

I just researched him and it said he was the lead singer for Genesis.

In this proud land we grew up strong
                  We were wanted all along
I was taught to fight, taught to win
I never thought I could fail

No fight left or so it seems
I am a man whose dreams have all deserted
I’ve changed my face, I’ve changed my name
But no-one wants you when you lose

                  Isn’t that the truth.

You have a way with reading my favorite music myGB. The one below with Gabriel and Kate Bush is a classic. I’ve loved that one too for a long time. And yes, He used to sing with Genesis. He was great, but Collins is too. This is a good article which shows which stuff Gabriel sang on. I just finished downloading Supper’s Ready from the Foxtrot album, 23 minutes, EXCELLENT song, which Gabriel sings on. Also was on Selling England by the Pound, which NYGino and I were listening to yesterday lol.

But Gabriel was good on his own too, as you’ve noticed.
I wish I could write like these guys.

love I get so lost, sometimes
days pass and this emptiness fills my heart
when I want to run away
I drive off in my car
                  but whichever way I go
I come back to the place you are

                  all my instincts, they return
and the grand facade, so soon will burn
without a noise, without my pride
I reach out from the inside

                  in your eyes
                  the light the heat
                  in your eyes
                  I am complete
                  in your eyes
I see the doorway to a thousand churches
                  in your eyes
the resolution of all the fruitless searches

I want to touch the light
the heat I see in your eyes

love, I don’t like to see so much pain
so much wasted and this moment keeps slipping away
I get so tired of working so hard for our survival
I look to the time with you to keep me awake and alive

                  don’t give up
                  you’re not beaten yet
                  don’t give up
I know you can make it good

But the other one, In Your Eyes- well,

love I get so lost, sometimes
days pass and this emptiness fills my heart
when I want to run away
I drive off in my car
                  but whichever way I go
I come back to the place you are

                  Yep.

You need to listen to Golden Slumbers off the one I just posted for Sober_Brother. another favorite one by the Beatles. :-)

It’s sure nice seeing you on here tonight.

                • MeanGreenBeret

I love the Beatles.I bought an album called Rubber Soul just yesterday.i also got the Long and Winding Road. They are awesome.

                • MeanGreenBeret

I think I should use part of Golden Slumbers to sing Ava to sleep.

Sorry sweetGB, there’s no reply button below. Good for you! I used Springsteen albums for target practice in Texas lol! ;-)

What’s sad is I loved the Dixie chicks, because the song Wide Open Spaces was ME! Everything about that song- from

As her folks drive away, her dad yells, “Check the oil!”
Mom stares out the window and says, “I’m leaving my girl”
She said, “It didn’t seem like that long ago”
When she stood there and let her own folks know

Reminded me of when I moved to the States.

and the other parts, well- I ended up in the very place, where

She traveled this road as a child
Wide eyed and grinning, she never tired
But now she won’t be coming back with the rest
If these are life’s lessons, she’ll take this test

                  This song is me.
I hate what they said, and I hate what they said to their fans, but this song is still me.

I once had a girl, or should I say, she once had me…
She showed me her room, isn’t it good, norwegian wood?

She asked me to stay and she told me to sit anywhere,
So I looked around and I noticed there wasn’t a chair.

I sat on a rug, biding my time, drinking her wine
We talked until two and then she said, “It’s time for bed”

She told me she worked in the morning and started to laugh.
I told her I didn’t and crawled off to sleep in the bath

And when I awoke, I was alone, this bird had flown
So I lit a fire, isn’t it good, norwegian wood.

:-D Norwegian Wood is my favorite off Rubber Soul. :-)

                • http://no-apologies-round2.blogspot.com/ AmericanborninCanada

I think you’ll have plenty of chances to sing her to sleep sweetGB. It’s a perfect one though. Love that song. :-)

                • MeanGreenBeret

For tonight I’ll have to settle on singing Derf to sleep. He is over here hanging out with me tonight. As for Ava it will take an Army to raise that girl. She is already feisty for only being a few days old.

                • http://no-apologies-round2.blogspot.com/ AmericanborninCanada

OK I’m thinkin’ something different for Derf, because you’ll never think of that song in the same way for sweet Ava if you try singin’ it to her. Hang on a minute sweetGB.

                  How about this one? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7epRPz0LGPE

Or, this one’s a little different by a great band, Moody Blues- another favorite http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RCmSUQD9QC8

I better not catch her going in or climbing out the bathroom window. LOL

                • MeanGreenBeret

Derf is sitting here looking at me like I am nuts. He keeps yawning.I think he is trying to tell me something.
                  What Derf?
                  OK I’ll come to bed.

Derf has me wrapped around his little paw too.

She has the Porkster’s fire in her and her Mom’s good looks.

She has her Godfathers sweetness and her Auntie Duckie’s brilliance and brains.

The best of all worlds. It amazes me how fast I fell in love.

You are never an interruption. You and I seem to share an affinity for the same music and artists. I love Peter Gabriel’s music too… but I sure hate his politics. What a shame. Same for Paul McCartney.

                • http://no-apologies-round2.blogspot.com/ AmericanborninCanada

Thank you Sober_Brother. :-) It’s fun to see how many of us have such excellent taste in music lol. It’s funny, some I can listen to, and not care a bit about their politics, but then others which I quit listening to because of them.

Speaking of McCartney, the best music of all time- Side 2 Abbey Road!!!

                  The Dixie Chicks

I used some of those CD’s to skeet shoot.

                  :)

                • Sober_Thinking

I just took the time to listen to the link you provided. I forgot how good that is… and honestly, how does one band write and play so much great music like they did – especially on one album?

Other great albums: Peter Gabriel – “So”, Fleetwood Mac – “Rumors”, and pretty much ANY Alter Bridge (especially “One Day Remains”).

                  Enjoy!

                • http://no-apologies-round2.blogspot.com/ AmericanborninCanada

Sorry Sober_ gotta reply here. I’m listening to the Alter Bridge one right now- I’ve never heard of it, but this is a beautiful song!!!

It’s interesting, I’m looking for music for my project I’m working on and this one actually might work on it!! I’ve got to find something Military guys listen to, and while I don’t know if they do with this one or not, it suits what I’m working on!!

As for Fleetwood Mac, I’m not a huge fan- like some, but always loved Stevie Nicks’ Landslide :-)

                • MeanGreenBeret

You won’t like it but if you read the lyrics below the video you’ll see why we do.

                • Sober_Thinking

I can help you with music that military guys listen to… The band Disturbed (no hidden message in this recommendation) might be a good choice… depending on what the occassion is. Pretty much anything heavy and rock-based is usually acceptable. I understand that when the ground forces launched during Desert Storm, they blared “Let The Bodies Hit The Floor” by Drowning Pool. If you’re looking for something current, I prefer Alter Bridge because some of their lyrics can be construed as sudo-Christian but they are all usually hard enough to satisfy a rock-preference pallate. Something WAY on the harder side could be music by the band: Five Finger Death Punch or Black Label Society (a little too rough for my tastes). Tell me how you want to use the music and I could make more/better suggestions. Email me or we can talk on Facebook. What I’ve suggested is stuff some of my military friends have enjoyed over the years.

Regarding the album “Rumors” by Fleetwood Mac… I just consider it one of the classics – pretty much every song is wonderful or could be a classic. Simon and Garfunkle (sp?) had one too. Rush “2112” was another one. Pink Floyd, “Dark Side of the Moon.” To me, every song on these albums are a hit… which is very rare.

          • Rshill7

They need to look at “The Man In The Mirror” and dredge up some nausea from it.

    • sjmom

My son works for a medical device company in sales.

      • Sober_Thinking

God bless him. I hope he can avoid the brunt of this bad policy and unfair tax that Obama created.

    • capelady

I saw an article about this exact receipt and store and it was explained that it was a programming error in their computer. It remains to be seen what impact these taxes will have on us, but you can be sure we are going to get hit every way possible – because Obama is not done. The RINO’s caved in and gave him a “fix” and now he will only want more and more.

      • Orangeone

What I haven’t seen or researched yet is an analysis on how the medical device tax will be paid by the nonprofit insurance companies and hospitals because they are tax exempt.

      • Sober_Thinking

Funny, by “fix”, they apparently didn’t understand it meant they’d be neutered.

If they can’t stand on their own two feet and stand strong behind their convictions, principles, and honor… then they need to step down and leave Washington.

Lead, follow, or get out of the way.

  • colliemum

Sen Paul is spot on when he says the downgrading will destroy the economy – because a downgrade means higher interest rates will have to be paid on the international money markets for the debts incurred by the Obama Administration. This debt raises daily because they’re borrowing as if there’s no tomorrow. Aaand – higher interest rates means more tax money needs to be spent to service the debt.

The interesting point he’s not driven home is that these credit rating agencies look very hard at what governments are doing and proposing to do to reduce their deficits, their spending, and their debts. Programmes to do this which are actually being implemented are extremely important. That’s why the UK hasn’t been downgraded even though our debt is proportionally (to the GDP) higher than that of the USA. Welfare reform is being implemented – too slowly for our tastes, but they are doing it in spite of the howls from the socialists and trade unions.

So I hope Sen Paul finds allies and I hope the House GOP reps are going to find some sort of spine.
As for the dems – talking about the debt ceiling doesn’t frighten the credit rating agencies! Not doing anything except spending more and more does!

    • MiketheMarine

The house GOP best find their spines because HALF of them come up for reelection in a mere 1.5 years and many of them will become unemployed taxpayers.

      • colliemum

Yep – they better start advertising for spine implants right now!
A ‘gentle’ hint of their approaching fate, joining the jobless, might also be rather useful.
They need to be made to understand, forcefully, that they work for you – not you for them!

        • MiketheMarine

It’s a sad state we’re in when a Brit understands how congress is supposed to work better than the morons who work IN THAT CONGRESS.

Amazing country, the USA. And I’m not sure I mean that in a positive way, anymore.

          • colliemum

The USA is an amazing country, and I mean it in the most positive way.
Yes, there are the lefties and the obamaphone masses – but they are still not the majority. No country has your Constitution (our Bill of rights of 1689 has been whittled down, sadly) – and no country has so many people willing to stand up for this Constitution, and defend it and country with their lives.
No country has this amazing tradition of grass root movements, it simply cannot be transplanted, although some have tried.

So while these are difficult times, there are far too many patriots, who are not ashamed of being called patriots, and who are willing to act. These are literally priceless assets, and the big mistake the left is making is that they think you all will act like the continental Europeans are doing: hand over responsibility to government and corrupt politicians.

Thanks to the internet, you’re far better informed, and far better net-worked. we’re trying to keep up in the UK, and the conservatives are getting more vocal and insistent, and some conservative politicians are actually listening and standing up against their party leaders.
You’re far better at all that already – so yes, the USA is amazing, and that’s not even talking about the land, the animals, nature …

Courage, dear friend – this too shall pass, and you all will see to it that it does pass in the right way, I have no doubts at all!

            • MiketheMarine

If anyone has any question as to why I have deep love in my heart for Colliemum, just read the above.

    • Sober_Thinking

      Excellent post.

They’ll just print more monopoly money as needed.

I just had an epiphany… have you noticed that they keep changing the look of the U.S. currency? They keep changing dyes and patterns… plus the placement of information etc. I appreciate their efforts to stop counterfeiters, etc. But when they are printing more and more types of money that not only looks different but IS different (less value), doesn’t that sort of make the Fed or U.S. Government counterfeiters?

Just meandering in my mind today… :)

      • colliemum

It’s a long time since I held actual greenbacks in my hands, so I couldn’t possibly comment on your observation.
However, it is strange indeed, and worth investigating why they are doing it.

        • Sober_Thinking

There’s a lot of “orange” in them these days. Funny that they’re not green anymore when Obama loves that color so much…

  • Rshill7

Between all the new Obamacare taxes, expenses and such, I wonder where the rich will cut back to take care of those. I’m not rich but I’ll probably cut back at least one trip to Mackinaw Island, Mackinaw City and all those lovely stores, motels and restaurants there. I’ll also have to curtail my property restoration/remodeling projects.

So instead of spending that money with small business owners, cooks, waitresses, managers, construction workers, artisans and such, it’ll go to the government who will give it to non-workers and non-job-providers. Does this make any sense to anyone?

I wonder if a few million other folks like me who instead of “giving” that money to the government (as the government steals it), gave that money to workers? Might society need more workers? Shouldn’t we be giving more money to workers and less money to non-workers? I don’t know, one path leads to more workers and the other to more non-workers. Which should we prefer? That’s a toughie for sure…but only to those whose heads are lighter than air.

Helium heads. Give one a long deep kiss and then notice how your voice changes. Good clean fun, except for the kissing part. I’m trying to imagine it. Ok Nancy Pelosi, lay one on me!

Hey, I sound like Alvin of the Chipmunks. It works! Gonna try to sing a Frankie Valli song now :-)

    • Orangeone

I don’t know that they will necessarily cut back in spending but they will reduce the amount of equity investment they make in start-ups because of the increase in cap gains taxes and the much higher risk of start-up failures, and the medical device & medical technology will take the greatest his because the 2.3% tax is on GROSS REVENUE and must be paid to the gov’t even if the company has a loss. This tax cannot always be passed on to an end customer because many are nonprofit and tax exempt.

This country hasn’t been serious about it ever!

  • welltempered2

If the founders made one mistake in writing the Constitution it’s, as Rand Paul says, not put term limits on congress.

    • tinlizzieowner

‘Government’ wasn’t a full time job back then.

      • welltempered2

You’re right, but Jefferson said that the Constitution is the chain restricting the power of the government. Term limits would have been one more link in the chain.

        • tinlizzieowner

The ‘Government’ of the time was an Aristocracy, a ‘bloodline’ passed down from father to son. Can the Brits put ‘term limits’ on the Queen?
I’m not disagreeing with you. Our government (at the time) consisted of ‘Gentleman Farmers’ and the like who had jobs, they couldn’t forsake. I agree, it it would have been in our best interests if they had the foresight to see that this government has turned into exactly what they were trying to get away from.

          • welltempered2

It was 1789, the war for independence was over. There was no “Government” by aristocracy in the new republic. The framers covened in that summer to amend the Articles of Confederation and decided to start anew with a clean sheet of paper. Limiting the power of the state was a paramount concern to assure the states to radify the new document. Separation and limits on state power are it’s hallmark. With their distrust of human nature it’s just too bad they didn’t forsee the “career politician” and put in safeguards.

            • tinlizzieowner

              Agreed.

          • colliemum

No – we cannot put term limits on the Queen – and thank God for that! She has been representing all that was and still is good for country, people and British character, one of the things being doing one’s duty – a concept more and more foreign to many people across the globe.
60 years on the throne – and we all, even the socialists, adore her.

Generally, Kings and Queens can abdicate, or made to abdicate by others (barons in the Middle Ages; cutting the head off in 1648 by Cromwell; by politicians in the 1930s in the case of Edward-would-have-been VIII). That’s it. Otherwise, it is indeed ‘until death’.
But as we have what is called a Constitutional Monarchy, where the Monarch acts more like a Head of State without any legislative powers, and as the Monarch is explicitly forbidden to say anything remotely related to political questions, we’redoing fine.
The words the Queen does say, e.g. at official occasions, or when opening Parliament, are all written for her by the ministries in Whitehall, with the input and agreement of the government du jour.

            • tinlizzieowner

I (sort of) understand how your present government works. Back in the 1700’s if the Monarch said it, you did it. ;-)
The founding fathers would be rolling over in their graves if they could see what their Republic has turned into now. We seem to have an ‘elected -for-life’ Monarchy in the Congress. It’s a shame we can’t use the old English way and just say “Off With Their Heads”. ;-) ;-)

        • Orangeone

Life expectancy was also much shorter but I agree, term limits!

    • Orangeone

Two mistakes IMO, (1) no term limits on Congress; and (2) no way for We The People to launch impeachment proceedings or charge POTUS and Administration with murder

  • http://www.facebook.com/richard.drakos Richard Drakos

I wish more people would talk about term limits. Interestingly enough, Virgil Goode, the Constitution Party candidate actually spoke a length about term limits and it’s part of the parties platform.

  • Conniption Fitz

Rand Paul makes sense. Wonder where he stands on drugs, prostitution, human trafficking (hopefully not like his Dad) gold-backed currency and the FED (hopefully like his Dad on this).

Sounds like he means business on entitlements and spending and the debt.

    • Orangeone

Don’t know but don’t like his love for illegal aliens.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/MVMVLN267XCY2HS5KL25QTQRKQ John

Google his name but I can tell you quickly he wants to stop the drug war. No idea on human trafficking, on gold is money he would repeal legal tender laws and yes he means business on entitlements and spending. He has a budget that would cut 500 billion in the 1st year and balance in 5, it eliminates entire departments.

  • tinlizzieowner

Term limits will have to come from the ground up. Congress will never impose term limits on them selves. The Lobbyists would be apoplectic if they were forced to have to try to bribe a ‘fresh’ Senator or Representative every 4 or 8 years. ;-)
Remember, Roosevelt had to die in office, during war time, to get Presidential term limits and it wouldn’t surprise me a bit if the Obama ‘machine’ wasn’t looking for a way around that, right now.

  • Conniption Fitz

  • http://navalwarfare.blogspot.com/ Libertyship46

He also missed one “minor” point if we keep spending money this way. There could very well be a time when we end up like Greece, where nobody will loan us anymore money because we’ll be seen as a bad risk. And we can’t just keep printing money like we are doing now, because then either we’ll have massive inflation, or our money will be worthless, or both. People really need to start listenting to this, because if we don’t do something serious about the debt by 2016, we’ll be over $20 TRILLION in the hole and we’ll never be able to get out of that. The clock is ticking. I just hope people are listening.

  • bobemakk

The re-election was rigged, it’s all over the internet. Rand Paul is one of the only of a select few who we can rely on.

    • Orangeone

Rand Paul hearts illegal aliens and thinks it’s ducky fine that they entered and remain in our country in direct violation of federal law.

  • bobemakk

The Righ Scoop, many of US have asked that you stop posting pics of Obama, we are disgusted with him and don’t even want to look at him.

  • Zalman bl

I understand the Republicans in the house and sanate. They know that they have to reduce spending, but are afraid that if they fight too hard they will loose the next election.
If I were a politician, I would probably feel the same way. The obvious question:
What is the point of serving the country if your not getting anything worthwhile done, anyway? Is it the $174,000 salary? There are better jobs out there that won’t be at other people’s expanse. Besides, they are good at marketing, let them go start their own business, then at least, they will be getting something done.

Americans want problems to be fixed. They will elect the leaders they think can get the most importent things done. If they don’t elect those leaders, good, what the point you should be serving in congress, if you are unwilling to vote for what you think need’s to get done.
Yes republicans SHOULD compromise, but on things like taxes and social issues, NOT on spending and issues that will determine whether are country survives or deis.

MyGB, these are the songs I have so far:
    Brothers in Arms- Dire Straits
These Colors Dont Run- Iron Maiden
Life of My Own- Three Doors Down
    Fight for Freedom- Manowar
Wait for Me- Theory of a Dead Man
And the one that Sober_ posted a bit ago.

I appreciate the one you just sent- lyrics wise, but it’s kind of a lot for this project. Toon gave me one earlier much the same, but it’s too much- it’d take away from something in the message. If you think of any others though, please, I’d love to hear them!! Thanks!
    :-) Evenin’ sweetGB.

Regarding the comments about term limits, I have to say I’m not totally sold on the concept, except perhaps in the office of the President. My first major objection is the first amendment and the right to vote for whomever we wish. But that doesn’t satisfy many people (as I think it ought, anyway).

Rotating the knaves in Congress does nothing to address a far bigger, far more difficult problem: Lifetime Bureaucrat Appointees.

On the one hand, I think it’s a very good thing to keep and retain genuine talent, like the White House Curator and the White House Chief Usher, and the people who operate the Library of Congress. Continuity and dedication to a craft is vitally important in running the Republic, just as it is in the Department of Defense.

But we have a massive cadre of petty bureaucrats who work in bloated departments and agencies, and they are left in place from Administration to Administration.

For some bizarre reason I cannot fathom, Republican Administrations tend to retain Democrat staff much more than Democrats will retain Republican staff. So what happens is that we have a leftist tilt to the overall administration of Government, regardless of who is in office. This is one of George W. Bush’s major failings, and one reason why Obama has been so successful at ruining everything on which he lays his hands.

The leftist tilt is reinforced by a vicious linking between frank ownership by the left of non-governmental institutions such as the Universities, the Press, and increasingly, the Clergy, and the nepotism-like friendship of bureaucrats with those same people. The bureaucracy is often staffed from those institutions, and vice-versa.

So while it’s awful to put up with “safe” candidates from districts inhabited by leftists, that is a factor which changes with changing demographics and economics. It also changes upon the eventual death of those same entrenched officeholders. (Here I remind you of the happy circumstance that Pelosi is no spring chicken.) But the bureaucracy is nearly permanent.

Until we deal with that, term limits won’t make much difference.

    • http://boogieforward.us/ K-Bob

WRT Presidential term limits, I think they should have extended the presidential term by one more year when they limited the number of terms. Sure, that would mean possibly suffering ten years of Obama, but in reality, I doubt it. I really believe that after five years of Obama, not even the press would help him get re-elected.

However, a really good president should have a couple of extra years if we can’t run him again.

The real reason though, is because a new president only has two years to get anything done. Then the next two years is one long campaign.

Now, if we limited the silly season to just six weeks, including ALL commercials and campaign speeches, then I’d say the current term length is fine. But we’ll never do that.
