Rand Paul: “There’s no greater critique or one who understands and knows the barbarity of communism than myself”

Rand Paul was on the Howie Carr Show today and was asked if he was having second thoughts about his stance that we need to begin normalizing relations with the Cuban dictatorship, given that Castro is more defiant than ever about continuing his Stalinist regime and that Cubans are said to be fleeing Cuba because they fear another crackdown since Obama’s Cuba announcement.

Rand Paul started his reply with this:

“I think what you’ll find is there’s no greater critique or one who understands and knows the barbarity of communism than myself and I’ll do anything I can to try to overturn and prevent the despair and the hardship and cruelty that comes along with that kind of a system…”

A few minutes later Carr came back to this statement and asked Paul if he knew more than Rubio about Communism, given that he said he knew more about Communism and the effects of it than anyone. But Paul replied that he never said that and accused Carr of putting words in his mouth.

Paul explained that he said he’s very aware of and understands the depredations that come from Communism and there’s probably no greater foe of Communism. He says that doesn’t mean he knows more than anyone else, that it’s a rhetorical expression or flourish to say there’s no great foe of Communism.
