Rep. Nunes has stated now to the media that there wasn’t an actual wiretap of Trump Tower, and of course that’s the headline everyone is running with. But he doesn’t just stop there.
Nunes goes on to point out that he is very concerned about the incidental collection of people were tied to the Trump campaign and the unmasking of names for political purposes.

Nunes goes on to emphasize this very point in an answer to a reporter about Trump’s tweet:

We know from other reporting that they don’t actually ‘wiretap’ phones anymore like they used to. So it’s pretty funny to me that the media is running with this as though it were a comprehensive indictment of Trump being guilty of lying.
Nunes, being far more responsible than the media, doesn’t appear to be taking Trump’s tweet literally and has told the media that there are more concerning issues related to this investigation.
But it looks like the media has gotten what they want and I don’t expect they care much about the rest. After all, they’d be biting the hand that has fed them all these fake news leaks!
