Romney on 2016: “Circumstances can change…”

Mitt Romney explained to Hugh Hewitt tonight why he would not be running in 2016 and it’s because he doesn’t feel he’s the best candidate to beat Hillary Clinton. He says there are a number of great candidates and he believes one of them can catch fire and win the presidency.

But Hewitt pressed on how things often change in elections where campaigns can implode and what not, and asked if Romney will change his mind if he finds himself in a place where he feels he’s the only one who can beat Hillary Clinton. Romney again explained why he made his decision and admits that while circumstance can change, he just doesn’t want to go there right now.

Romney suggested that if everyone who wanted to run decided they couldn’t win and told him he must do it, then he might run if that happened. But he calls that the one in a million circumstance that would cause him to run.
