Romney zings Obama with “bless his heart” moment

This was all the rage a little while ago when Romney zinged Obama by saying “President Obama, bless his heart, has tried to substitute government for free people, and it has not worked.”

Watch it below:

This comment got a lot of reaction over at Twitchy, but most notable that it was called racist!

Heh, I’m guessing Romney breathing is also racist too.

  • Some people might not get the ‘bless his heart’ reference….but if you do, it is hilarious!

    • Sober_Thinking

      Agreed! 🙂

    • Landscaper

In the south, you can make pretty much make any insult about someone as long as you follow it with “bless their heart”. Therefore it takes the “mean spirited” sarcasim BURN off the speaker.

      • 1mathteacher

I live in the south, and I am sooooo guilty of this! (e.g. She’s just not a pretty girl, bless her heart!) Yep, we do that!

        • Landscaper

Yes it’s a southern thing teacher. Jeff Foxworthy did a whole bit on understanding southern. Bet you say “fixin to” as well.

          • 1mathteacher

lol – You know I do! “I’m fixin’ to make some grits. Y’all wont some?” 🙂

      • In the north, we use “With all due respect … {insert insult}”. LOL

  • AmericanDream12

This guy repeats all the Sarah Palin’s lines!!! Ryan did the same the other day. Can’t they generate their own lines??? They hate Sarah but it does not bother them to copy her speeches or talking point at every turn.. losers!

    • 2 comments in for someone to make this about Sarah.

      I think that’s a record!

      • AmericanDream12

Sorry about that 🙂 I noticed it so often though that I had to say it..Sarah used it twice last night on Greta about Akin – she uses it often – so I though that was funny to hear it from Romney today.

        • celestiallady

Pretty sure I read somewhere they use a speech writer that was Sarah’s speech writer so maybe that is part of it. Gee, relax!

        • BHliberty

The way I see it: “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery”!

          • AmericanDream12

            You are so right 🙂

        • Sinsonta

I have been away for a couple of weeks & don’t know if after all, Sarah Palin will speak at the Convention?? It will be a shame if she hasn’t been invited.

      • cudaforever

And not much longer for you to write this 🙂 Also a record.

    • Sarah Palin does not have intellectual ownership over a cliche such as “bless his heart”

      • 4rcane

true, but its suddenly being used so much, even obama was jumping on board with use of hopey and changey stuff

    • This guy? This guy? You mean the man who will be the Republican nominee for President of the United States? I’m pretty sure that “bless your heart” has been around a lot longer than Gov. Palin. And I’m pretty sure she’s not running.

BTW, Reince Priebus said she was invited to speak but declined. So can we give it a rest?

    • 2hairs

First of all they don’t hate Sarah. Secondly if any group has talking points it is liberals.

  • Sober_Thinking

Romney could fart at this point and that would be racist.

For every bonehead who thinks Romney is racist… just refer them over to Zo.

    • God Bless Zo!

      • opinionatedhermit

        +1 for Zo!

  • anyonebutbarry2012

romney is getting his points out there, he has become a better speaker since the primaries, not as great as Governor Palin, but he is 200% better then barry

    • BS61

I’d say more like 15 trillion times better!

  • DINORightMarie

    Romney saying, “Um” is raaaaacist.

    Romney saying, “Him” is raaaaacist.

    Romney saying, “Hello” is raaaacist.

    Ryan saying, “Um” is raaaacist.

etc. etc. etc. It’s all Alinsky all the time with these leftie goons. The Race Card and is all they’ve got left. Heh. Too bad they jumped the shark on that one a waaaaay long time back.

Really?! So…’s raaaaacist – because YOU say so?!?! Riiiiiiiiigggghhht. #dogwhistles #war

  • drphibes

“Bless His Heart” is a blatantly racist dog whistle. Pretty soon he’ll be adding phrases like, “God Love Him”, which targets African Americans with equal vitriol. Why, he might as well have come out with Al Jolson make-up on and sang “Mammy”.

    • tx_gold

You are a complete dope!! It has nothing to do with color, neither does ‘God love him’. Don’t know where you got your info, but you need to study up on the subject. The race card is old hat. Know what that means?

      • Amy

I’m almost 99% sure drphibes was engaging in sarcasm?

        • badbadlibs

I sure hope so, because my former pastor’s wife and pastor both use “bless his/her/your heart all the time.
I hear it all the time and use it too, so if that’s racists…my granddaughter’s black fiance sure doesn’t mind.

          • drphibes

Obviously, your pastor and his wife….ARE RACISTS!

            • badbadlibs

They would be surprised to learn that, 😉 But then America seems to have been put on a new learning curve as of late. This election can not come soon enough…does that make me “racist” too?

              • drphibes

No, of course not. Isn’t this whole thing ridiculous? Just trying to do the Rush Limbaugh thing – point out the absurd by being absurd. 🙂

                • badbadlibs

It is ridiculous yet incedious at the same time. The left are beyond explaining at this point.

              • NYGino

badbad, if your part of the TRS family, you’re a racist.

                • ConnieConservative

Yes, I have learned from Libs that I am a terrible racist. My mixed race
immigrant family and I were all surprised to learn this. I guess wanting
a balanced budget and a secure financial future for our families is dog
whistle racism. Who knew? Also the roads built our business. ( sarcasm)

                • NYGino

“…a balanced budget”, “…financial future”, these sure sound like code to me.

                • “Code.”

Code is racist. I know. I just spent three days working on code. Most racist stuff I ever saw. It’s got something to do with Microsoft, bless their hearts.

                • How dare you! Say 20 hail Jeremiahs and 30 our Farrakhans at once! ;-D

          • It depends. Are they in the deep South? If so, (sarc-on)they are definitely racists and the black fiancé is an Uncle Tom(sarc-off). I hate using lefty lingo sometimes. 😛

        • drphibes

“99% sure.” Another racist term. Like the ironic “IVORY” soap claims about being “99.44% pure”. The racist irony is too much to take. They should be called Ebony Soap.

          • Amy

Ah… it goes something like this ~

            I’m a racist
            You’re a racist
Wouldn’t you like to be a racist too?

Said in a sing songy voice – it’s quite catchy actually ~

            • Old Dr. Pepper commercials are racist!

        • I sensed a tinge of sarcasm there. I’m learning to use the (sarc-on)sarcastic comment(sarc-off) qualifiers nowadays.

      • drphibes

I’ve studied up on the subject. “God Love Him” is SPECIFICALLY a racist dog whistle. Let’s not even talk about posthumous smears like, “God Rest His Soul.” THAT’S like putting on a Klan robe!

        • Hey watch your comments here. Using the “G” word is intolerant of atheists. See, posing as a lefty can be easy.

      • drphibes

Oh, I didn’t answer your question about whether I know what “race card is old hat” means. The answer is, “No, I have no idea what a race card is. Do you buy that at the Kentucky Derby, or what?”

        • p m

          Keep going, doc, love it!

  • Joe

    Definition >>>

    Very appropriate!

(It is NOT racist – but I am sure they will make it so)

  • Spartan4Palin

I’m sorry. But I have noticed A LOT that the Romney campaign has taken license to use a great deal of ‘Palin Points’ lately. And it urks me to no end that they do it.

Energy matters. The acknowledgement to our military. This little sound bite. Many others in the same manner Palin uses. There are many things that they have said that mirror Palin’s arguments from the past and to the present.

Look, I’m don’t want to make this about Palin. I do believe she got a raw deal from the Romney camp. And whatever happened has happened. But it is an insult to Palin when they do this. And it is an insult to us that still stand with her when she brings issues to our attention.

I want so badly for our side to beat Obama. Period. Everyday that we wait till election, time seems to get longer by the minute. Especially when you want to climb through the screen of your monitor or TV at the lies being told by Obama. And it is so frustrating when you don’t see the hard hits back. We all know the media is in the tank for Obama. But not ALL media is. New media is available. I made this argument on another thread. I don’t know why the Romney campaign doesn’t take advantage of the enormously large audience of talk radio and blogs and have sit down chats?

    • celestiallady

One of his speech writiers was Sarah’s speech writier, I think I read somewhere, so that might be part of it.

      • AmericanDream12

When Sarah speaks to Greta she sure has no speech writer!!!

        • drphibes

Not true. There is someone holding up cards that say “You Betcha” and “Bless his heart” just outside of camera range. It’s an open secret at FOX.

          • AmericanDream12

Haha…what was I thinking. Of course you are right! s/

      • Joe Labbe

Close! Ryan’s speechwriter for his USS Wisconsin speech was the McCain speech writer for Palin’s convention speech.

    • poljunkie

At this point, I wouldn’t care if Gov Palin was in the back room holding up cue cards for Romney to read.

I want to win this – and if she needs to help, fantastic. Great. Whatever is necessary.

      • Betsey_Ross

I think she already has. Back at CPAC Romney was wondering what he had to do to get Sarah Palin to think he was a Conservative. He came up with the phrase “severly Conservative”. Hmmmmm. Not quite, Mitt.

Without actually giving him lessons, I think he has been trying to model her style and her Conservatism. He had to show us that he has come around. With his pick of Ryan he has shown all of us that he will fight for us and wants to turn the economy around. I know I didn’t think he had it in him to actually fight for this position. He has shown that he will fight and that he plans to win. Cue cards or not, he has improved so much in the past couple of months. By Sarah not going to the Convention she can stand back from the action and and evaluate the festivities. Hopefully she will be able to assertain that he has come a long way and will then go about the business of getting him a Conservative Congress so that they can all start restoring America.

        • Like your handle…or is that your real name? Any which way, thumbs up at the handle!

      • Reckoner_3

        Whatever helps!

I want to win this – and if she needs to help, fantastic. Great. Whatever is necessary.

Yes, it’s game time now. Obama needs the boot!

    • Nukeman60

I don’t see it that way. I think every time anybody uses Sarah’s approach, or Newt’s approach for that matter, it strengthens who Palin and Gingrich are. After the primary debates, they did the same with what Newt would say in the debates.

When politicians feel they can use Palin’s techniques, it means they feel it is a strong tactic and only makes her look better. I wish every politician would do what Sarah does and maybe we could finally straighten out Washington.

    • NHConservative0221

“I don’t want to make this about Palin”…. but then you go right ahead and do exactly that! LOL

      • Took the words right out of my mouth, NH.

      • Spartan4Palin

        Well you caught me.

    • 4rcane

I noticed it too “bless his heart” was something Palin used to use ALOT. Also reminding audience on “clinging to gun and religion”

  • Arrrggghhh

“Racist” has become so overused so as to render it the intellectual equivalent of “Poopy Head.”

    • B-Funk

LOL! I haven’t heard poopy head in so long! I completely agree with you.

    • Joe Labbe

I’m so sorry Mr. Obama, it appears your Race card has been declined…

    • LMAO!

  • We’re all racists now.

    • drphibes

“You betcha!” Woops, there we go again.

    • I’d like to see Newsweek put that on their cover.

  • KateNE

I think this is the equivalent to the “Friends” telling Joey Tribbiani “you’re so pretty”.

  • Racist??? The Obama people call everybody who disagree with them racists. It’s all they have left. They are going to lose.

  • Nukeman60

Obama is a narcissistic, self-absorbed, marxist-raised, drug-addled, Muslim-supporting progressive socialist, Bless his little heart. 🙂

    • drphibes

And those are his good points!

    • ROFL!

  • maynardb50

Mr. Romney needs to hang on to that “bless his heart” statement. Kind of like Reagan’s
    “there you go again”.

  • AWGBlog

I live in the south and Romney may be from up north – but that’s southern for “The boy is an idiot – too dumb to pour piss out of a boot even if the direction were written on the heel.” And let’s face it Obama isn’t nearly as bright as he thinks he is.

    • AlabamaPatriot2

………..perhaps if the directions were in Arabic???

  • AlabamaPatriot2

Those not native raised Southerners may not know, but when someone says something really stupid, the classic, charming Southern response is “Bless yore little ole’ heart.”

  • dk_in_tn

    P O W E R F U L

  • d1carter

But what Plugs Biden said had nothing to do with racism..?

  • NYGino

Thanks to my friend toongoon, who told me about the code word book in a box of Cracker Jacks, I’m now able to decifer codes. Hold on, I’ll look it up………………………..Yes, I found it. “Bless his heart” is definitely a racist term. Wait, there’s an asterisk that refers to the bottom of the page. It says: Of course anything a conservative says about the current administration is racist. Oh well.

  • idesign2

Looks like Romney cribbed it from that lady in Alaska..:)

  • GeorgiaPeachie

Racist?? Grasping at straws. Desperate. Losers come November!!!

    • Yep, Obama has to grasp at straws now. He has been caught lying some much, that the only thing he has is to make up false statements to cover his incompetence.
obama is getting desparate because he knows he is going to loose this election, and American people can get their White House back from this communist alien.
You lib-commies won`t have anywhere to hide your Kenyan traitor after this election.
This nightmare of treason is almost over.
All you commies have is to throw the race care, and that is getting as old as the blame it on Bush card.
So you better wake up and vote for the true Americans Romney/Ryan.

      • GeorgiaPeachie

Totally with you Donald! Romney/Ryan 2012!!!

PS: I think you misunderstood my previous post.

  • FSM_47

Bless Obama’s little pea pickin’ heart. He tries with what he has to work with:-)

  • “bless his heart” I say WHAT HEART???? Great to see Mitt with those T-Shirts on the crowd!! Just in your face and right at the Marxist! I guess people really did know what you meant hey Obama??? Nice Zinger!! Racist….Gee call Bill Murray for “GroundHog Day”….the Dems use the same ole same ole!!

  • Difference between a professional and the amateur who presently resides at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

  • I think the guy who brought the phrase, “bless his heart,” to prominent, comedic use was Henry Cho. He has a whole routine built around it. he first time I heard it I laughed my loose bits right off.

So enough of who’s ripping off whom.

  • Oh no! The old “Mitt Romney and Republicans (all white people, yep right) are racist” catchphrase! A bunch of overly sensitive whiners those lefties are. Hey, I like Aunt Jemima pancake mix and Cream of Wheat hot cereal, so that must make me a racist as well. This is fun!

  • LiberalBoycotter

I don’t give a rat’s butt, who writes, holds up cue cards, or anything else that helps Romney win. I just want him to kick Barry’s A$$ to the curb in November.

The race card has been so over played by the Liberals, it is now just as useless as the joker in a deck of cards when you are going to play a serious game to win!!!!

  • Jay

With the right tone of voice, “Bless his heart” is unmistakable to anyone. And doubly insulting to the leftoids because of the- GASP!- religous overtones. Separation of church and blah, blah, blah, you know the rant.

  • bobemakk

    Romney is so right.

  • This could be a Reagan moment for Romney. Reagan had “Here we go again.” If Romney is smart he will utilize this in the same way. It’s short. It’s simple. And it mocks, ridicules and totally questions Obama’s capacity as an “intellectual” and it does so in a way that is non offensive to others. Put this one in your back pocket Romney. It could be useful.

  • Suzyqpie

Nov 6 we will determine if the looter/plunderer outnumber the worker/saver of the United States of America.
