Rush says he is sick of hearing all the whining about negative ads and specifically calls out Newt to stop whining about them because this is nothing compared to what the left will unleash in the fall.

Also, he doesn’t believe for a moment that Romney will take on Obama with negative ads like he is Newt.

Geez. Rush has been off on his “I can see the seams on a fastball” shtick. His request to get newt stop whining is OK. But he is off a little on other stuff. He as bought into the Romney ads are dishonest BS. Romney ads might be considered unfair, but they are true. That is why they are effective. Also, Romney will go after Obama very hard on his record and policies. Not sure about character. Character attacks on Gingrich are easy. They guy is seriously flawed in that area. Thoughtful Republicans and conservatives see the problem and agree that Newt is a loser in the general. In the general though, character attacks on Obama could be problematic with Independents. So Rush might be right on that, but he is acting like it would be a bad thing.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_6KRHXVK5ZCSWJ5GJQ5Z6GIJICA Dax

klaffner…many of Romney’s ads are not true. Sounds like you will believe anything Romney tells you as well as give him a pass on all his super moderate policies. For goodness sake do just a little research before you make such a claim.

      • Anonymous

I called Klaffner out yesterday. He’ll believe anything he hears without researching for himself. He’s a puppet, just pull his strings.
        Look at Klaffner go

    • Anonymous

First, Romney’s ads are not true. There are a whole lot of us here who were adults in the 80s and 90s who know the history and know Willard’s attack ads are lies.

Second, Rush is right about Romney facing Obama. Romney won’t even call Obama a socialist **now** in the primaries, so he sure as heck isn’t going to do it later.

But wait… I momentarily forgot that Romney is the wellspring of socialized medicine. Romneycare is the blueprint on which Obamacare is based, so I guess realistically Willard can’t call Obama a socialist. It would be like the pot calling the kettle black.

      • Anonymous

Romney will HAVE to play it differently if he’s the one standing in front of Maobama… because in all truth, Romney will be looking into a mirror.

      • Anonymous

Surround the enemy from both sides. The enemy be us.

    • PFFV

klaffner – What has RomneyCare done that is considered Conservative? Name one thing? Gingrich has a record of many Conservative accomplishments and is representing Tea Party values and principles. Gingrich is speaking about how he will cut the size and scope of the federal government and it’s out of control spending. Show me one single cut in the federal government Romney has spoken of? There are NONE! Romney is an empty suit RINO. He is a liberal and ROMNEYCARE is proof of it. Obama-lite will not fix our problems; in fact I contend that if Romney (or Obama) is (re) elected POTUS this country is lost forever. People need to wake up and look at the facts for themselves! The people supporting Romney are either delusional or believing what the negative ads are saying and taking it for face value. Do your own research people, Gingrich is the only one (of the front runners) talking about huge cuts to government and its out of control spending, period. All you have to do is listen to Gingrich’s speeches to know he is the real Conservative we need to save our country.

I love Rick Santorum but for some reason he isn’t catching peoples attention. God bless him and his beautiful family.

  • Anonymous

I blame the vicodan for that comment. Come on Rush, that’s what Mitt for brains does for crying out loud. Of course he’ll use negative ads on Maobama. I don’t want Mitt to win but at least he wouldn’t need to lie to attack Maobama like he has had to attacking Newt.

    • Anonymous

I think Rush is saying that Mitt won’t attack Obama personally. He will only attack Obama’s record. Nice shot with the Vicodin line though lol.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_6KRHXVK5ZCSWJ5GJQ5Z6GIJICA Dax

Rush is exactly right on both points and I dont take vicodan. Have a little respect for the greatest radio talk show host in history please.

      • Anonymous

The greatest, huh? Has he said who I should vote for yet? I’m awaiting orders. I tend to defend myself when I’m attacked, don’t you?

        LOL

        • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_6KRHXVK5ZCSWJ5GJQ5Z6GIJICA Dax

Absolutely the greatest. Why should he tell you who to vote for? He respects the power of the people to decide. If you listen closely you can feel which way he leans but it does him no good to pick your candidate.

          • cabensg

Oh! I know which way he leans alright and he’s grasping at straws to make his case. This was the most incoherent show I’ve ever heard. I found it hard to believe he actually believed what he was saying. This is the first time I actually lost some respect for him. He tried to imply that just because Politics had always been down and dirty what applied in Jefferson’s time applied now. Did they have 24/7 news cycles, 24/7 advertising. Vital elections within weeks of each other. It was a flawed analogy at best. I already voiced my opinion about his totally wrong message that Newt was off message. I guess Limbaugh gets his news from blog headlines.

            • Anonymous

Nobody is going to be on point with everyone every time. Even his ‘official survey’ gives him a 96.7% correct all the time rating. So. Maybe this falls into the 3.3% incorrect category. Bottom line, (I’m really beginning to hate that phrase) nobody has done as much, for so long, with as much integrity to explain just exactly what the heck is really happening. We all owe Rush.

    • Anonymous
    • Anonymous

As Romney is incapable of convincingly articulating conservatism… he would be equally incapable of defining radical, left-wing socialist or alinskyite, much less understanding these terms. So I wouldn’t expect his ads to suddenly expose Obama’s roots, should he get the nomination.

If Romney gets the nomination… who are we going to blame when America gets McCained a second time around?

I see that Michelle Malkin has thrown her hat in with Santorum.

    • K-Bob

Talk radio folks and Columnists just can’t seem to resist pulling back from time to time to give the appearance of having not been totally against someone. Even Rush “goes there” once in a while.

I think a little switch goes off one day and they think, “wait a minute, I need to sound like I’m being really responsible and diligent here, so I’d better back off a bit and reposition.” Or something. The worst ones are more like Beck and appear to just be all over the place.

It’s not an easy job they have, growing and keeping an audience. If you get a rep for being a one-trick-pony type broadcaster, even your loyal listeners will get bored.

  • Anonymous

How does Rush suggest that Newt counter those ads without calling them out?

    • Anonymous

It’s one thing to defend yourself, another thing to complain about your opponent beating you. Reminds me of Todd Haley complaining when teams “ran up the score” against him. Buck up Newt, there’s no crying in primaries.

      • Anonymous

No crying in primaries, indeed. FUnny.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Steven-Valdez/1806887704 Steven Valdez

    I agree on both points.

But more on the Romney point because he can’t win a fight with using same liberal tactics against Obama.

  • Anonymous

This is what Newt did in Iowa. It does reek of bad apples. Pity parties don’t usually get a big audience.

  • StNikao

Romney’s campaign has been based on lies.

He lied at least seven times in the last debate alone.

He has tried to win this election the same way he does business whatever get the votes or dollars.

He is a cunning and ruthless man.

He looks innocent, attractive and respectable on the outside, but he is not.

If I see him in person, I will spit on the ground…shake the dust from my feet and turn away.

I will not vote for this man. Not on his record. Not on his character. Not on his methods.

I could not vote for him or Obama at gunpoint.

May the Lord bring him to repentance.

    • StNikao

I DO AGREE WITH RUSH – Newt and Santorum should just ignore Romney and focus on articulating conservatism, outline their platforms and convictions and when/if Romney pipes in, counter him with facts, evidence, data about his record, stats about his lack of success as a Governor, his liberalism and his lies, etc.

    • Anonymous

I agree with you. If Romney wins, I may well focus on congress and skip the pres box on the ballot.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_6KRHXVK5ZCSWJ5GJQ5Z6GIJICA Dax

I never thought I would do that but you can see Romney’s foolishness in personally attacking Newt which will only anger the Newt supporters. Probably the most stupid thing Romney has done.

        • Trust1TG

          The plot thickens…..

There are also stories of deals with China (while Huntsman, his cousin was there) and the Medicare fraud garnering the largest fine in history.

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/XJPVZCJHEJU4B2I6PL6RVZUZ4Y Ted

Seriously? You’d hand Obama a vote (by not voting for the more conservative of the options.) Mike, marines are smarter than that. They dive in head first into very unsavory circumstances without blinking an eye. Why? Because they understand the mission.

        • K-Bob

Definitely in facepalm territory there, dude.

  • Anonymous

I was on the Newt bandwagon for a while, but I don’t think his playing the victim all the time is going to make him look like the stronger candidate against Obama.

Complains when there is no audience participation, then he complains that there is too much.

Newt needs a new act that doesn’t include either whining or bashing Mitt’s wealth.

  • Anonymous

Right now Rush is going after Romneycare and it is far more interesting and enlightening. People need to hear it.

  • http://mediadecoder.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/12/29/an-election-year-dawns-without-keith-olbermann/?src=tp Unicon

    “Why…Why…Why”
-Figure Skater Nancy Kerrigan’s response after getting kneecapped by Tonya Harding’s thugs

Nancy gained a lot of support from sympathetic fans over that tragic episode. Newt is no Nancy Kerrigan though.

  • Anonymous

I didn’t have a chance to listen to Rush’s program so he might have explained in more detail why he says that if Romney is the GOP nominee he will not be as aggressive towards Obama as he has been towards Gingrich. Is he implying that Romney will run a McCain type, play nice nice, don’t rattle any cages type campaign? This will not do. The GOP HAS to go after this administration with both barrels, hold nothing back and inform the American people just what the criminals in the White House have been up to and how they have been destroying everything this country stands for.

McCain called Obama a “patriot” intent on using his Presidency to “advance our Country’s cause”. Total rubbish.

Our Country’s survival cannot afford this type of PC campaign. Obama can’t run on his record but he can be defeated with his record.

    • Anonymous

They will do so without their base who’s sick of the GOP.

They will do so against Chicago politics and Mittens is incapable of defeating.

Oh yeah, then, there is his record.

  • Anonymous

    Re: RefudiateObama2012

Yes, exactly! Romney’s negative ads destroyed Newt in Iowa. He is outspending Newt 15 to 1 in Florida. Don’t “complain?” How is this “complaining” as opposed to pointing out that Romney is misleading people (i.e. a nonexistant ethics violation etc). Newt can’t NOT respond … because the negative ads work – and not because they’re truthful.

Say anything long enough and loud enough and people will eventually believe them.

Another thing. Remember how Bachman got killed by the MSM (Newsweek pic etc) when she was riding high? Remember how Cain got killed by the MSM (unsubstantiated gossip) when he was riding high? Remember how ABC did a hatchet job (ex-wife interview) on Gingrich in South Carolina when he was riding high?

Why isn’t Romeny getting the same treatment?

This interview (below) it might explain things. Bain Capital makes the MSM bloodhounds drool at the idea of Romney vs. Obama…

I’m sick of the whining AND the negative ads. Instead of cannibalizing each other, the GOP needs to combat the left! Tell me what you’re going to do to fix this mess and stop the pi$$ing contests with each other—stop acting like jr. high school girls!

    • Anonymous

tvlgds, you’re right. They have lost sight of the goal.

  • Anonymous

Newt has every right to confront the liar Romney and the corrupt ads that are being run. For crying out loud, MOST Americans will just sit on the couch and regard these false ads as gospel. They are too complacent to do any real research. Until Americans wake the hell up and get educated… then it’s fine for Newt or anyone else to refute irresponsible ads.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_RRD6NP54OWDC3X6ZCVEUARQOYQ Kent

I don’t understand, why not? Will he be like McCain and insist on being politically correct? Concerned that negative campaigning will upset the moderate Republicans and Independents? Sara Palin complained that the McCain campaign kept her restrained and it definitely worked to their detriment. If the MSM won’t vet Obama and the Democrats, isn’t it up to the Republican candidates?

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_JT6RK4NQME54FA3FVYTTHLTRTQ Southnsoul

They’re not just negative ads, they are a rewrite of history to smear someone.

  • Anonymous

Rush gets paid very well for all of his whining. Rush….you can’t keep it all for yourself
Another thing Romney and Obama have in common, neither can run on their record. Negative ads is all they have. Sure there will be puppets like Klaffner to vote for them. I do hope the majority will look though the trees so they can see the forrest

  • cabensg

Yeh! Well I’m sick of Limbaugh. His analogies today were so far off base I had to send him an email.

Limbaugh said he didn’t care what his enemies said and he didn’t let it worry him. Well good for you. Try running for office in a 24/7 news cycle. Limbaugh doesn’t have to defend himself because he’s not worried about a vote that’s only a week or a day away so it’s pretty easy to not worry. Limbaugh’s not worrying or complaining is supposed to be some kind of comparison to someone in a political race. Limbaugh said he’d just stay on message. He’d last a week.

As for staying on message except for some short statements Gingrich has not gotten off message. If you watch his speeches and his interview with Greta he was on message.

It’s no secret Limbaugh doesn’t want Gingrich and speaking of whining he’s doing a damn good job of it himself.

    • http://twitter.com/cfallon57 Cheryl Fallon

I don’t think so-he just sees the issues on both sides!

  • Lynn LEE

I am amazed at the ugly bashing that goes on in these comment sections. It seems that people have lost their ability to disagree with a candidate without becoming vitriolic in their hatred of another human being. Is this what conservatism has come too? Newt Gingrich has a lot of baggage and he has to know that the general election would be a firestorm of negative ads and press. Right now his press is more positive than negative as shown in the recently released study http://www.cmpa.com/media_room_press_1_18_12.html
In the general election the press would go extremely negative on him. Right now he has one candidate going negative on him. How would he handle the press attacking him as they protect their favorite son-Obama? There is a good chance he would self-destruct!

    • Anonymous

Trouble is Willard has plenty more baggage and he’s getting a free pass because the media wants him to be the candidate only to come out all guns blazing should he get the nod. We don’t want a replay of 2008. Willard should be vetted NOW!

    • K-Bob

If you think this is “ugly bashing” then you must not get around the web much. We don’t do vitriolic hatred here. You’ll want huffington post for that.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ricardo-Galvan/100001729378103 Ricardo Galvan

Rush has been off the reservation for ages now. He keeps bashing Newt in what has been, probably, one of the most dirty, dishonest smear campaigns ever between two Republicans. Rush is speaking out of both sides of his mouth. It seems he is preparing for a Romney nomination.

    • http://twitter.com/cfallon57 Cheryl Fallon

Maybe he just sees “issues” on both sides!

      • Anonymous

Rush doesn’t want Willard at all. He is just being diplomatic.

    • Anonymous

Rush doesn’t bash anyone, he doesn’t need to. He only talks about the actions and the stories they themselves create.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ricardo-Galvan/100001729378103 Ricardo Galvan

Bah, he’s driving headlines and contributing to a Newt loss against Romney in Florida. Instead of bashing Newt, he should have been on the front lines of this thing from stage one. Instead, he was sitting around befuddled as websites like Free Republic and other good conservatives did the dirty work. This has been a vicious smear campaign, and Rush takes the time to bash both parties involved.

I’m sick and tired of the “negative ads” as much as anyone. But, there is a HUGE difference in an ad that points out some negative things you’ve done in the past (based on facts) vs. out right LIES. I’m not an attorney but isn’t that libel (or some other legal term) if you make public statements that aren’t true about someone to damage their reputation which causes them harm? Man, it makes me sick that Mittens can lie and then Newt has to spend his time and resources defending himself.

Rush – Why don’t you spend your air time talking about how important the truth is if we are going to vet our candidates.

BTW If I had lies about me being spread over the airwaves I’d be ticked off too!

    • Anonymous

I’ve heard or read that the freedom of speech clause in the 1st Amendment was meant to protect political speech, and went so far as to mean there was no guarantee or expectation of truth in it. Which goes for all speech unless otherwise averred.

More folks should approach political ads that way, seems to me.

      • Anonymous

I know you’re right, it just ticks me off that there are so many that believe everything they see on the boob tube. I just think they shouldn’t be allowed to lie in the ads. They can point out the differences in the candidates but I think character assassinations based on lies should be off limits.

Or maybe for the useful idiots there should be a disclaimer in big bold letters stating “This may not be factual”.

        • Anonymous

The spoken word can be very ‘reassuring’, when delivered by a skillful speaker. Sadly, there are plenty of people who will stare right at a sign “this may be a lie” and tell themselves “yes, it may, but I believe it” for whatever reason.
I get a little queasy when I hear politicians wanting to ‘register everyone and give them a free ride to the polls’. If anyone isn’t motivated to go to the polls and vote on their own, then they simply aren’t interested, and have no business ‘exercising their God given right’. More like ‘abusing’ it than exercising it.

    • Anonymous

Romney has spent over $15 million on 13,000 attack ads against Newt in Florida alone.

Everyone says they dislike the negative attacks – but they work, so they will continue.

If American’s don’t begin to reject this, then whoever has the most money wins… and that would be tragic!

  • Anonymous

No lies have been told about Newt. If anything, the ads have gone very easy on him. Rush realizes this and admitted it. Come on, first Speaker in history to resign “under difficult circumstances”. There’s just endless material to work with.

  • Anonymous

Thanks Rush. If Newt gets the nomination he better get some thick skin. The last thing we need is a whiner. Both Newt and Romney better get their big boy pants on and quit projecting weakness. Both have baggage working against them. And Obama. And the media. All I have to say is quit destroying each other. Obama is lapping it up.

Rush is on the side with Newt,as his advice has shown he wanted Newt to better than Romney,by articulating Conservative values, well, Newt had done it.Rush should should be man enough to openly support Newt, and stop being hidden. This is about the greater good of the country, and for great analyst like Rush,he should know the Chameleon and disgusting colors Romney bears.

Rush is another polarized oblivious far right conservative that doesn’t have a clue along with Palin, Hannity and Cain. Educate yourselves with the truth against Newt Gingrich, who is no different from Obama’s ideologies. I feel that Rush and Hannity want Newt because his anticipated failure as president would bring ratings to them in the conservative media.
