Russia very worried about escalation, says they will NOT accept a nuclear N. Korea…

Russia’s foreign minister is turning up the heat on N. Korea now, expressing concern that risk of N. Korean escalation is very high and that they will not accept a nuclear N. Korea:

Here’s more from the BBC:

Moscow said the exchange of threats between Washington and Pyongyang “worry us very much”.

Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov rated the risk of military conflict as “very high” as he put forward a joint Russian-Chinese plan to defuse the crisis.

And from Sputnik:

The Russian foreign minister said that Russia and China had “a whole range of proposals aimed at preventing the deepest conflict, a crisis with a huge number of human losses.”

The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea signed this agreement [on non-proliferation of nuclear weapons], then exited it, and now says it has all legal rights to create nuclear weapons, it has created them already. But we know our stance — we will not accept a nuclear North Korea which has nuclear weapons,” Lavrov said at a forum.

It does sound like the pressure campaign is working.

You know in many ways I’d love to see the N. Korean people freed from the brutally oppressive control of the regime in Pyongyang. The problem is that it would likely take war to make that happen and as we all worry, that can get really messy really fast, especially in S. Korea.
