***UPDATED*** “Senior Israeli Officials” says cease-fire/truce between Israel and Hamas likely within hours

Via Haaretz:

5:24 P.M. Senior Israeli officials with knowledge of ongoing talks geared at reaching a cease-fire with Hamas will go into effect by Tuesday evening, adding that they hoped that the deal’s last points will be finalized in a meeting between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, due to take place at 10 P.M.

Only time will tell if this is true.

UPDATE: Reuters is quoting Hamas official saying definite truce tonight:

There was cease-fire at Tora Bora….a cease-fire is just another excuse to have your enemy reload. Israel needs to end this terror once and for all, one more rocket launched from Gaza EVER and Israel should go block for block to clean out the terrorist. It will be a high price, but Peace and security are not free.

Like I posted on another thread – The arm twisting is likely going on here. Clinton visits Israel and advises that the money and the equipment needed from America to allow Israel to truly defend itself will be drying up if Israel doesn’t back down. So, Israel will back down. And, nothing ever, ever changes. I don’t want war either, but at some point, Israel has to stop this. America won’t, not with the pansy man in the White House. Hillary couldn’t even protect a small outpost in Libya – she certainly isn’t capable of negotiating peace between Hamas and Israel. She is there merely to deliver the message – stand down or die. Never doubt which side this administration is on. It’s been flipping clear since day one.

Well said, and said with a searing sting.

  • tinlizzieowner

Does anybody actually think that Hamas will quit firing rockets into Israel? We all know damn good and well that Clinton is going over there to try to talk Israel into a cease fire.

    • colliemum

They’ll stop for a few weeks, until Iran has made good all the missiles which they’ve been firing so far.
Then they’ll be back at it.

It’s normal muslim procedure. It’s hudna.

      • bobemakk

See my post right above yours, I agree.

    • bobemakk

Hamas is the problem, not Israel. Iran is supplying Hamas with weapons to test Israel’s strength before Iran plans their attack. God help US and the world. Why must our generation go through all of these unnecessary wars? I weep for my children and grandchildren.

  • sjmom

Can Israel trust any deal made with Hamas, or for that matter made by the Obama administration? If so, then they are better than I am because I wouldn’t trust either. As I said before, Israel; trust God alone!

    • Conniption Fitz

NOPE. Trusting Islam and its followers is stupidity.

    • BHliberty

Agree sjmom, trusting our current gov is laughable! With Clinton there to try and settle this, which is also laughable, is she going to make threats? That if Israel doesn’t stop the attacks, then all bets are off with the U.S. support! Some ally! And so, in the meantime, Israel continues to get assaulted day in and day out! When is it when Israel says, enough!

      • sjmom

We must keep praying for Israel because only God can help them and us.

That would be a bad idea for the Israelis. Hamas agreeing to any sort of cease fire is just intended to allow them to regroup, rearm and renew their attack.

  • Haywoodjbl

Israel needs to end this now. The next time (which is inevitable) the MSM will grow louder and louder against them.

    Finish it

  • mike3e4r7

Look at how eager the bully is for peace now that he’s received an ass whopping. Of course he’ll be back to firing rockets into Israel in no time but needs to lick his wounds for the moment.

    • Conniption Fitz

Meanwhile a boatload of rockets is on an Iranian ship headed for Gaza. Send it to the bottom of the sea.

    Have the bombs stopped?

  • westbankmama

No the bombs have not stopped. They are firing even more now. There is a lot of confusion, since the Israeli Air Force dropped leaflets in Arabic over Gaza this afternoon warning the citizens in the northern part of Gaza to leave since there would soon be an IDF ground operation.

The Arabs there are taking this seriously and are moving south.

    • colliemum

How are you doing, westbankmama – and are you and your family as safe as can be?

You all are in our daily prayers.

      • westbankmama

We had one siren today, and we went to our safe room. Thank you so much for your prayers, I really appreciate them.

  • Watchman74

Hmm so one on hand we have word of a truce, on the other the Israelis are gathering for a ground invasion. Which is it?

    • colliemum

I’d guess that Bibi is twisting the arms of Hillary and Ban Ki-Moon right now, telling them if there’s no proper, long term total ceasefire, but just the usual muslim Hudna, which allows Hamas to re-stock and then start again – he’ll have to send in the ground forces and damn the consequences.

He might be telling them that two or three months without Hamas rockets is not good enough, and if they cannot bring Morsi to twist Hamas’ arms, then the blood of the Gazans will be on their hands.

That’s what I hope Bibi is telling them …

  • westbankmama

Please note that it is Hamas that is stating that there will be a ceasefire, and not Israel. One analyst here in Israel has pointed out that it shows how worried they are.

I think this is true, since the Israeli sources have specifically pointed out that they have not agreed to a ceasefire yet.

    • IsraeliCojones

My take is that they leave us in the dark deliberately. They don’t want to be held accountable for this later on.

I still hope I’m wrong but I’m not holding my breath.

  • colliemum

Well, there’s ceasefire as we know it, and ceasefire as the muslims understand it. They call it ‘hudna’, and that means they keep quiet until they’ve collected enough weapons/money/men to start the offensive again.

Here’s a great article about this:

So I hope Bibi tells the ‘brokers’, Hillary and Ban Ki-Moon, that if it’s not a proper ceasefire, for 15 years as he proposed, then it ain’t gonna happen …

Praying for Israel and all who are ready to sacrifice themselves to protect the land God gave them.

  • colliemum

    From the Muqata’s facebook:

“7:02 Because of the “cease fire” talks, IDF Homefront warns Israeli residents that the following hours are the most critical because Hamas will try to “score points” and get in their “last chance” rockets….especially towards central Israel and/or Jerusalem.”

  • Conniption Fitz

    Truce within hours?

Sometimes Hamas’ truces last only hours.

  • Rshill7

Hamas runs the Palestinians and Iran runs Hamas. Therefor Iran runs the Palestinians. Yet Israel should live under a constant state of siege? From Iran?

You “people” in the press are the definition of unfair, the epitome of stupid, the spreader of slander, and the partner of pure evil. You’re scum, with legs.

  • Sober_Thinking

How is U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton going to help? Threaten Israel? Gaza must be low on missiles and rockets.

Peace would be nice and Israel certainly deserves it…

  • bobemakk

I pray this is true. The Iranians are testing the strength of Israel and preparing their attack because Iran is supplying the terrorist Hamas in the Gaza strip with weaponry. And I do believe that Iran already has a nuclear warhead.
