Ted Cruz: Our campaign had NOTHING to do with fake Gowdy Facebook post

Politics is an ugly business and it kinda got ugly today with Trey Gowdy accusing the Cruz campaign of creating a fake Facebook page saying Gowdy had switched his allegiance from Rubio to Cruz:

DAILY CALLER – South Carolina Rep. Trey Gowdy is upset after a fake Facebook page surfaced falsely showing him switching his endorsement from Marco Rubio to Ted Cruz in the Republican race for president.

In a statement released by Rubio’s campaign, Gowdy — the chairman of the House Benghazi committee — said: “Its been reported that a fake Facebook page has been used to fool South Carolinians into thinking that I no longer support Marco Rubio and that I’m instead supporting Ted Cruz. Nothing could be further from the truth and I’m demanding that Senator Cruz and his campaign repudiate these dishonest and underhanded tactics.”

Though there’s no concrete evidence that Cruz’s campaign has anything to do with the Facebook page, Gowdy said: “Unfortunately it appears that the campaign of Senator Ted Cruz may not place the same value on waging a contest based on the truth and facts. In the last week, we have seen a systematic effort by Senator Cruz and his allies to spread false information and outright lies in the hopes of winning votes by appealing to our lowest common denominator.”

Uh, no we haven’t. In any event, Cruz did repudiate it on Twitter today, saying his campaign had absolutely nothing to do with it:

Hopefully this stops Gowdy from making the accusation, unless he’s just doing it to hurt Cruz. Then he probably won’t.
