This morning Ted Cruz briefly weighed in on Trump’s cancelling of the N. Korean summit in a Houston radio interview.
Listen:
Ted Cruz says that nobody should be surprised that Trump had to cancel the summit given the aggressiveness and hostility from Kim Jong Un, saying that we’ve seen this pattern from both Un and his father for many, many years.
Cruz admits he was skeptical of the summit from the beginning…
There were a lot of folks when the summit was initially scheduled who were celebrating and saying this is an enormous breakthrough. I have to confess I was always skeptical then because Kim has shown himself, repeatedly, to be a liar, to make promises and break them.
But he is happy with how Trump is handling this bully from a position of strength, as opposed to the weakness we saw from Obama for eight years:
But I do think that going forward what we have seen is that the right way to deal with a bully and a dictator like Kim Jong Un is from a position of strength. And I think that’s what President Trump has been doing and it works much, much better than does weakness and appeasement which was the pattern for eight years under Barack Obama.
Ted Cruz isn’t alone, as several of his colleagues have echoed similar sentiments about today’s cancellation:
Kim Jun Un, in the words of a wise man “Congratulations, you just played yourself”. Withdrawing from talks with #NKorea is 100% the right decision. #KJU doesn’t want a deal. He has deliberately sabotaged the talks over the last two weeks & was setting us up to take the blame.

North Korea has a long history of demanding concessions merely to negotiate. While past administrations of both parties have fallen for this ruse, I commend the president for seeing through Kim Jong Un’s fraud. https://t.co/4j1Sv5ABoW pic.twitter.com/sHTR72YUjO

Kim Jong Un is a murderous despot and habitual liar. The President made the right call to cancel this summit. If North Korea wants diplomacy, it should know that half-measures and spin about its nuclear program won’t cut it.
