Thanks to Donald Trump, a lawsuit has now been filed against Ted Cruz to contest his eligibility to run for president:
CBN NEWS – Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, is facing his first lawsuit questioning his eligibility to serve as president of the United States.
The case was filed Thursday by Texas lawyer Newton Schwartz.
“The U.S. Constitution is not a popularity document for fair weather only,” the lawsuit says.
“However persuasive one finds each side in this debate, the final decision ultimately rests in the hands of five or more of nine justices on the Supreme Court as mandated by the Constitution,” it said.
The lawsuit comes after a series of attacks from GOP rival Donald Trump regarding Cruz’s status.
The Texas lawmaker, meanwhile, is standing his ground.
“The facts and the law here are really quite clear,” he told Trump during Thursday night’s GOP debate in South Carolina. “Under longstanding U.S. law, the child of a U.S. citizen born abroad is a natural-born citizen.”
I don’t know how this ‘lawyer’ will have standing to contest this, nor do I believe any court of significance will hear it even if standing is granted. This is entirely a politically motivated lawsuit and I suspect the courts will throw it out.
Either way, it’s a nuisance for Cruz to have to deal with. But he’s more than capable of handling it and he’ll make sure it’s dealt with appropriately.
