Kellyanne Conway was mocked roundly for saying that “General Flynn had the full confidence of the president” yesterday, just hours before he resigned. In this interview with the execrable Matt Lauer she tries, poorly, to explain how that is still true after he resigned.

As much as I despise Matt Lauer, he caught Conway in a clear logical contradiction. She says that it was the lie to Mike Pence that eroded the trust between Trump and Flynn, but he knew that lie happened a month ago. So how did a straw break a camel’s back and the camel only now noticed his back was broken!? I get the sense that Conway believes she wins an argument as long as words are coming quickly out of her maw.
In any case, it still looks bad for Trump to have to fire a dude (I know, he resigned, sure) just weeks after appointing him. As Krauthammer explained before Flynn was let go, it makes Trump appear as if he doesn’t have any clue about how to hire responsible people…
UNLESS – there’s much more to the story than what we see on the surface.
