The latest on Syria: Obama would consider Russia/Syrian proposal “if it’s real”

Russia seized on Kerry’s remarks this morning and said that Syria should turn over control of their chemical weapons to the international community. I think that surprised everyone. Syria then responded and said they welcome the Russian proposal. Another surprise. Then Ban-Ki-moon from the United Nations jumped in and basically said ‘let’s get started.’

When asked if this new development could avert a US attack, Obama said that it could if this proposal is real:

What I love about what Russia did today is that if it indeed is a credible proposal, it will reveal Obama’s motives for his threatened attack. If he really was serious about it being about chemical weapons, he can’t turn this down. But if he had other motivations as many of us suspect, he will continue to find fault and proceed with an attack anyway.

Nice move, Russia.
