We are officially in day three of the government shutdown. According to Chad Pergram from Fox News, Congress is still working to find a solution to the government shutdown:

Senate slated to take procedural vote at noon to halt debate on bill to re-open gov’t thru Feb 8. Needs 60 yeas. Needs Dem support. Unclear if they can get to 60

Bipartisan Senstat working grp of mor than 20 senators trying to cut a deal on immigration to meet again early this am

Keep in mind that the noon procedural vote in the Senate IS NOT a vote to re-open gov’t. But if they get 60 yeas (which is still up in the air) then a vote to re-open gov’t is a fait accompli. Just a matter of time. It would pass at that pt

On procedural vote to end shutdown, Flake/Graham will be yeas now compared to Friday. They still need Dems. Look at moderates or those facing tough re-elects this fall. Or MD/VA senators who represent large portions of the federal workforce

7 is the magic number today. That’s to number of additional Dem senators likely required to vote to break filibuster on bill to re-open gov’t. 5 Dems voted Fri night to break filibuster: Manchin, Heitkamp, Jones, Donnelly, McCaskill.

House Dems to hold 12:30 pm et caucus mtg

6 Dem Sens needed get to 60 if McConnell votes yea. Look at Kaine/Warner & Van Hollen/Cardin to start. Large federal populations in VA/MD. Then Tester, Brown, Baldwin, Casey, Smith, Coons, King. Some are moderates, up for re-election or from battleground states.

Sources here believe it is a stretch to get to 60 yeas today. We think a few more Democrats will vote yes getting them into the mid to upper fifties. But we don’t think they are there yet. Senate Democratic Caucus meets at 10. Houss Democratic Caucus at 12:30.

At some point someone will have to break and I think it could be the Democrats. But it’s probably too soon for that.
We’ll be sure and keep you updated if anything significant happens on the #SchumerShutdown.
