**UPDATE: (NY Daily News is latest) This has become an ongoing archive of Lefty hate. Continuously updated**

This is absolutely disgusting. Firedog Lake blogger is already blaming Sarah Palin for Rep. Gabrielle Gifford shooting that just happened this morning.

***

And Markos Moulitsas, owner of the far left DailyKos tweeted the above article from Firedog Lake:

UPDATE: HotAir has the lowdown on the shooter, including videos.

***

UPDATE: Paul Krugman for the NY Times has decided to weigh in on this and says that violence like this will occur when Beck, Limbaugh, etc. create a climate of hate:

***

UPDATE: Jane Fonda says that Sarah Palin, The Tea Party, and Glenn Beck are responsible:

***

UPDATE: Rep. Grijalva says that Sarah Palin rhetoric contributes to shooting:

***

UPDATE: Joan Walsh retweeted this garbage today from another Lefty blog:

UPDATE: Michael Daly wrote this in the NY Daily News:

I don’t even know what’s going to result from this- watch for some crazy things– what a perfect opportunity for lefties

Not often something like this happens, and in the very volatile environment who knows what will happen in the next few weeks.

Yes, because someone takes something the exact wrong way, that’s reason enough to blame Sarah Palin.

      • Kim

Words that are intended to insight strong emotional reactions have consequences. Especially when those words are based on lies and use specific imagery such as a gun site target on someone’s face. Palin and others (i.e. Sharon Angle and her “second amendment remedies” and Michelle Bachmann asking supporters to be “armed and dangerous”) are as responsible for this as someone yelling fire in a crowded theater would be responsible for the injuries or deaths of those trampled in the panic. They know that many of their followers are unstable and dangerous and they don’t temper their rhetoric accordingly. Palin and the others should be horrified and ashamed!

        • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_LX45AFLF7QIWWU7QLV6YFMH7MY Tim M

Palin and the others ARE horrified if their statements are any indication. Just because you can’t read for context doesn’t mean none of us can.

George Bush assassination film wins top award

            Last updated at 17:28 20 September 2006

The video which outraged America by depicting the assassination of President George W Bush has won an award at the Toronto film festival.

British director Gabriel Range’s “Death of a President” stirred up a strong reaction even before it premiered at the festival, but it won the Prize of the International Critics….

Only in the lefts world is everyone responsible except for the ones who actually perpetrate violence.

Kim you should be ashamed for drawing such a ludicrous conclusion. When it comes out that he’s at best a mentally disturbed anarchist will you come back and apologize?

Did you demand an apology from Gore for the Discovery building attack by an environment nut? I doubt it. You probably can’t come to admit that he was even a lefty.

          • Anonymous

When did Gore ever attack the Discovery Channel? When did any environmental group ever attack the Discovery Channel? The shooter, Lee, may have been a fan of Gore, but he came up with his crackpot plan to bomb the Discovery Channel on his own, nobody gave him the idea.

By contrast, Giffords had been targeted by the Tea Party for months, from the crosshairs on Palin’s website to the vandalism of her offices. There was a clear pattern of incitement against her. We don’t know if the shooter was a Tea Party sympathizer, but his Hard Money and Tenth Amendment rhetoric makes it at least a possibility.

            • Marti17

You still need to know the motive of each incidence to get a more difinitive picture and be more able to see connection(s), if any.

Funny – no one seems to recall that the DCCC used a map with BULLSEYES on it, and it did so before Palin’s map. But of course, everything has to be Palin’s fault. Wow…

Oh, and apparently the left has forgotten Obama’s statement, “if they bring a knife, we bring a gun” in June, 2008. But yeah, sure, it’s all Palin’s fault.

          Hi, Kim!
Excuse me, but here’s some info. for you:
          – Pres. Obama: “If they bring a knife to the fight, we’ll use a gun.”
          – Pres. Obama: “Ill kick their asses.”
          – The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee also put out a “cross-hairs target” map, just like Palin’s.
          – An AZ Congressional candidate also put out a “cross-hairs target” on his opponent.

Maybe we need to down the rhetoric, but if so, BOTH sides need to.

Like I said, it only took minutes. Sarah needs to have her attorney file an endangerment injunction against Markos as he is trying to put her in harms way.

    • Kim

Let me get this straight…Sarah Palin isn’t responsible for putting in harm’s way Giffords and the other 19 Democrats she targeted with a GUN SIGHT, but Markos is responsible for putting Sarah in harm’s way just for saying Palin is responsible. That is the most ridiculous backwards logic I’ve heard in a very long time.

      • http://punditpawn.wordpress.com PunditPawn

Yea? Palin is a private citizen being attacked by a media corporation. Giffords is a public servant subject to extremely broad 1st amendment scope. It’s not the same at all. Take your ‘gun target’ nonsense and giggle about it with some liberals. A court would laugh your ass outta there for that ‘gun target’ inference.

You clearly have no knowledge of the law. And please don’t claim to be a lawyer. Not only is it likely untrue but would have no bearing on whether or not you have any knowledge of the law. • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_MWVYJ3Y7WN6HZP4QGSY54FJM3Q Holly Pilgrim

Communist Manifesto and Mein Kampf listed as “favorite” books…I find that interesting, but who knows.

          • Tyler

His favorite books are rather irrelevant if you actually watch his videos. He apparently thinks that you can make up your own letters and numbers to “control the grammar” as well as create your own currency. He also describes paying for college as unconstitutional, then describes police (overall apparently) as unconstitutional…but then indirectly sounds like some kind of incident happened to him at his school.

He’s either A) a nutjob, B) an idiot, or more likely BOTH.

  • Goldni007

His website has him burning the American Flag. Definetly not Tea Party!

On the other hand your spelling is classic Tea Party.

I’m half tempted to boot you as a troll just for defaming the state of Montana with that screen name, not to mention that the low brow nature of your post casts a shadow on the good people of the state. On second thought, goodbye troll.

    • Anonymous

The shooter was definitely Tea Party:

      1- Communist Manifest- favorite book

      2- He was an atheist

3- He hated George Bush and campaigned for John Kerry in 2004

4- He is on the internet burning the American flag.

Sounds like a right winger alright! (rolling eyes)

  • the joy of sense

Just because you put gun crosshairs on someone’s name, and encourage people to “reload” doesn’t mean you want someone to shoot them in the head right…? It means you should take them to dinner.

Yeah, but those insane people always seem to come from the radical right (Timothy McVeigh anyone?), and why in the hell are conservative politicians so in love with using violent gun-based rhetoric? Is that the only kind of imagery their half-educated base understand?

Yeah kind of like that “Tea Partier” who flew into that IRS building in Texas last year. Turns out wait for it… HE WAS A LEFTIST SOCIALIST NUT CASE.

*(not the homophobic, right-wing, Texas High School football watching one, the other one)

  • vetteman

sounds like this guy was just an anti government communist. He would have probably killed a republican had he been in the area too. Sarah did not intend this to happen.

    • Tyler

The guy also seemed to have a beef with the Army supposedly giving mini bibles before the “tests.” I don’t know if Arizona’s MEPS station does things differently…but I recall taking only a drug test at the MEPS and I was never given a bible either before I signed the dotted line. Heck…I don’t even think there was a chaplain.

I’m wondering if this kid was trying to join the army to pay for his college and failed miserably.

There seem to be plenty of potential hidden motivators…NONE of which are political in nature.

      • Marti17

I read that he had tried to join and was turned down – the Army would’t disclose the reason.

I have been reading the coverage and comments all over and no one is talking about , and maybe it is my tin foil hat that is coming through, but is anyone else alarmed that in the last couple of months we have has SEVERAL high profile, very violent acts that seem to be escalating occurring all with person either in their teens or very close to being teens???

    • http://twitter.com/ozziecastillo Ozzie Castillo

They’re only high profile until they can’t be used by the media to blame the Tea Party people.

Aren’t the younger people the demographic the far far left is targeting to incite to “rise up”? How come no one has even mentioned Van Jones or Frances Fox Piven and her recent comments?

      • DMM

How many liberals have been involved in gun attacks on right wing targets over recent years? Or killed doctors whose views they didn’t agree with, or flew airplanes into IRS buildings, etc, etc? Well?

        • http://twitter.com/ozziecastillo Ozzie Castillo

The guy that flew his plane into the IRS building was a communist-

You can toss in groups that you would consider “right-wing” such as anti-abortionists, but the environmentalist movement which I would consider “left-wing” has a pretty nasty history itself.

I wonder how the MSM will react if they find out that the shooter is a Leftie? Nobody knows which side of the political aisle he is on yet,but would it be fair if I say that it would be swept under the rug if that’s the case? He did say that 2 of his favorite books are The Communist Manifesto & Mein Kampf, & he said that he does NOT trust in God……

    • Anonymous

This guy isn’t on the left or the right. He’s out there in the ozone where you often find young adults who have never had any responsibilities in their lives but are “experts” on our society.

    • Tyler

He mentioned “Section 10 of the United States of America Constitution.” If he wanted to be more grammatically correct which he stressed…he would have said Article I, Section X…but I digress. He basically seemed to be anti-Federal Reserve…which I am too…but I’m not gonna kill anyone because of it.

Ayn Rand’s We the Living and George Orwell’s Animal Farm are also 2 of his “favorite books,” both of them vehemently anti-Communist tomes. His reading list is all over the place, it’s almost impossible to pigeonhole his political philosophy from it.

“The crossfire is intense, so penetrate through enemy territory by bombing through the press, and use your strong weapons — your Big Guns — to drive to the hole. Lefty Anarchist attacks Lefty Politician, and somehow the liberals are blaming Palin and the rest of the righties. It’s downright asinine to even attempt to blame someone other than the left, but bless their little anti-american hearts that’s what they’re doing now that Daily KOS has been implicated for inciting the violence against Gabby.

Daily KOS isn’t just anti-semetic, they incite violence!

    • Anonymous

You can’t rightly call the man an Anarchist, I watched those videos of his and there is not even a hint of coherence amongst the jumble of self-aggrandizing ramblings disconnected with reality. He is a Nihilist through and through, but his political philosophy, if he even could be said to have one, is not discernible.

Thank you for making the distinction between “left” and “right” anarchists, though.

      • Tyler

I’m not sure how there could be a “left” or a “right” anarchist. Oh well.

The dude to me seemed to be one of the real true-blue “tin-foil hat” types, but in addition had some mental disability (a form of dyslexia maybe) and showed indirect signs in his Pima College video about an incident which may have sparked him.

        • Anonymous

There are 2 key differences amongst people who could legitimately be called “anarchist.”

          1. Property rights; such a thing as private property or not?
          2. Means; Violent or non-aggression?

I use the terms “left” and “right” as a way to just differentiate with familiar terms, left/right are relative against each other and otherwise have no context at all.

“Left” is usually Anarcho-Syndicalism or Anarcho-Communism (Marxism without the intermediate Dictatorship of the Proletariat). Characterized often by violent activism and denial of private property and considers capitalism “wage slavery.”

“Right” is usually from the thinking of Lysander Spooner or Murray Rothbard, ie. Anarcho-Capitalism, Voluntaryism, Agorism, or radical Libertarianism. Characterized by adherence/advocation of the Non-Aggression Axiom and the firm belief in private property at the heart of it as well as embracing wage working through voluntary contract.

The people I’m calling “right” also sometimes call themselves Anti-Statist, due to a lot of the early foundational thinkers of Anarchism being focused on hierarchy, including wage working. This is why so many “anarchists” fall in with communists because they both regard the workings of Capitalism as inherently exploitative due to “wage slavery.” Even Benjamin Tucker, one of the first Individualist Anarchists was a Mutualist at least for awhile.

This is all speaking VERY broadly, there is no “platform,” I’m just widely describing the common extreme differences, there are degrees in some people. Don’t make me get into all the muddying differences and variables in “Libertarianism,” lol.

      • http://www.facebook.com/ernie.ball3 Ernie Ball

There is a point where the far right and the far left are the same. If you look at Marxism, you need to kill people to keep the Marxist idea’s going. Stalin 7 million, Hitler 5 million and Lenin 10 million.

        • Anonymous

If you want to use the traditional left/right model, that’s your business, but it is intentionally shallow in it’s sorting of ideologies. It’s a false presentation of effectively interchangeable ideologies as opposing extremes, which makes very little sense. Not to mention the old model intentionally has no context, is completely arbitrary and relative to the ideological history of the region in which it is expressed.

Even the “Rothbardian line,” of Totalitarianism Anarchism is too shallow.

If a person is going to use the simple left/right line they need to add a Y-axis. It suffers from a misleading aggregation of policy positions making people who are social liberals + fiscal “conservatives” somehow line up in the middle “moderate-land,” when Libertarianism is anything but moderate. The whole thing is about defining groups against each other for ready-made constituencies of tribal voting blocks. The “circle,” model is just silly, the idea that if you continually go “far[ther] right” you’ll pass through Nazism, into Communism, and then eventually wind up at Anarchism again is absurd for obvious reasons.

None of those 3 tyrants were Marxist in practice, by the way, Bolshevism runs counter to Marx’s prediction for the world worker’s revolution. Leninism was a politically instigated perversion of Marxism. Stalinism was a one country offshoot of Leninism, Trotskyism was the opposing offshoot still favoring international goals. Hitler’s Nazism and pseudo-related Fascism were variations of State Socialism. Marxism ultimately was an anarchic vision of stateless socialism. You’re right though, killing off the people who don’t go along is a central necessity and happily allowed since even people and their bodies are the property of society in Socialism.

The shooter in Arizona was a delusional self-aggrandizing moron with a strange fetish for literacy, Nihilism, currency, and syllogisms. The latter of which he failed to ever execute properly in multiple attempts to make complete non-points. Crazy is as crazy does.

          • http://twitter.com/ozziecastillo Ozzie Castillo

DT- I read through your post here- it all seems pretty disturbing…. the bigger government ideologies-

Question is- If a person or group wants that specific ideology (variant of Socialism or Marxism), what’s in it for them? I understand that the politically connected get power (which I don’t think can be done away with under any system with a government entity because the government entity by nature is an institution of power), so what’s in it for the bottom layer that want in?

            • Anonymous

They all pretty much promise egalitarianism and thrive off of the same jealousy/hatred of the rich.

They almost never have a sound or consistent idea about property rights that they actually believe themselves, it’s always anger over people who own more than they do.

So what they THINK they’ll get is the desired resolution to class warfare, which is either complete redistributionism and restructuring of economies. Capitalists who can’t get with the program and live communally are too exploitative to the core and as they would exploit one, because of how property rights work it’s an exploitation of all. So those types of Capitalists must be swept away.

If you can ever read some of their forums or talk to them, they have no consistent grasp of any concept they happily toss about. All rights are property rights, and they fail to understand it.

This was not a political act, it was an act of mental derangement. That said, there has been too much raging anger, too many calls for “revolution,” too great a focus on guns, too strong an emphasis on “otherness,” politically, racially and culturally.

We are a nation built on Unity within Diversity. It is where our true strength lies. If we all “take it down a notch” we have a greater chance of reaching consensus on shared goals, and compromise on strategies necessary to reach those goals.

    • Anonymous

You’d be hard pressed to find any “shared goals” between the right and the left. We can’t uniformly believe in our own constitution.

I do agree though that this kid was simply crazy, it was only a question of when. If it had been a congress person from the right that won the election there still would have been a shooting in my opinion.

The Youtube videos display a complete lack of thought going on. I’ve heard it describe as schizophrenic thinking. Full disclosure, I’m not a Dr.

      • Tyler

I’m thinking in addition to that, there’s probably a touch of dyslexia in there the way he writes and repeats himself in a rearrangement of words. Perhaps mixed with some OCD…not sure.

If you pay attention to his Pima College video, he seems to indirectly hint at a possible incident that may be what triggered the act.

  • Anonymous

I’m kind of getting tired of the phrase, “An attack against (fill in the blank) is an attack against us all.”

I’ve heard it used by both sides in such strange ways. Each trying to elevate a specific group above the rest of America. Isn’t any random act of senseless violence worthy of this sentiment in America? To be honest it sounds more like a rallying battle cry of sorts.

Not to sound callous but random acts of violence are terrible no matter who they happen to. The fact that it happened to someone in the political arena seems insignificant in comparison to the number of regular folks also effected by it.

A Congress Woman shot we know her name, A Federal Judge shot we know his name and then after that they just becomes vague he’s, she’s and child. Why don’t we know all the names of the people shot and killed? Are their deaths not as important as a Congress Woman and a Judge?

Sorry lefties, looks like the guy was just nuts. Better luck next time.

A former classmate of Loughner at Pima Community College said he was “obviously very disturbed.”

“He disrupted class frequently with nonsensical outbursts,” said Lynda Sorenson, who took a math class with Loughner last summer at Pima Community College’s Northwest campus.

Sorenson doesn’t recall if he ever made any threats or uttered political statements but he was very disruptive, she said. He was asked to leave the pre-algebra class several times and eventually was barred from class, said Sorenson, a Tucson resident.

    • AnonymousOne

Anyone who responded to Sharon Angle’s “Second Amendment Solution” is by definition nuts.

If your argument is that Sarah Palin or Sharon Angle can only be blamed if a sane person answers their call to violence…..then your position is an oxymoron because commission of mass murder invariably defines someone as not sane.

  • AnonymousOne

Giffords herself warned Sarah Palin on March 25, 2010 about the results of her rhetoric.

Why did Palin delete her crosshairs map and her “Reload” Tweet TODAY??

BECAUSE EVERYONE ON BOTH SIDES OF THE ISSUE RECOGNIZES A CORRELATION.

A correlation is not blame. But the woman who was shot in the head warned Palin of such correlations. Obviously Palin did not understand Gifford’s warning until TODAY.

    • Anonymous

Anyone who went to school knows that “Correlation does not equal causation.” *Keep repeating until it sinks in*

This is so childish. We know who pulled the trigger that’s the person responsible. Unless there is a new law that I don’t know about.

Please don’t use the “yelling fire in a gym” it should be blatantly obvious why that argument doesn’t work. It has a literal and specific meaning, neither of which took place.

      • AnonymousOne

I specifically said that correlation does not equal blame. Correlation does not equal causation. I agree. Okay, now that we agree on that point.

Your argument is going to be that:

The implied encouragement of violence or the explicit encouragement of use of firearms against your political adversaries is an acceptable and effective political tactic because the politician calling for violence is not responsible for the actions of individuals at large, who may or may not be mentally stable, and who also hear the message and carry it out.

basically this is your argument correct?

so, should we consider this the position of the tea party or the republican party in general?

TODAY’S CRIME WAS A SECOND AMENDMENT SOLUTION!

        • Anonymous

          So it’s time for censorship?

Most importantly you’ve yet to prove that this man acted on anything other than his own desires. Until you can show that you’ve got nothing.

There are plenty of mentally disturbed people should we keep them away from grown up talk. No movies, no books, no dangerous thoughts for them….right?

While you’re playing the correlation doesn’t equal blame but I’ll blame her indirectly anyways, let me know how much this angers you.

          http://sheya.com/2011/01/08/politicizing-an-horrific-tragedy

That looks a lot like an actual bulls eye. I’ll wait for your denouncement. I don’t think they’re any more guilty than Palin but since we’re playing this naive game might as well play it all the way through.

Who ever pulled the trigger is guilty. It’s no more convoluted than that.

BTW this guy is a lefty and those who know him admit it.

  • Onema

What the left is doing is nothing more than irresponsible, and unintelligent. And even though (hypothetically speaking) they had some proof that this individual, was someone from the right. That doesn’t make it right to generalize, and put a whole ideology as extremists.
In an ideology, party, or group of people there is always going to be some radicals that will commit such acts. From the left, right, anarchists, anyone. However though, this was not the case.

  • Vpriest

It is because of what people like Sarah Palin and Glen Breck rant about. They’ve brought the U.S to new lows. Never mind the First Amendment anymore, the right wing are going to be viscously determined to get their own way. I m so glad I don’t live in the States – what a horrible country. I won’t even travel there anymore – I’ll circumvent the States anyway I can. What a sick country!!!

Well, lets see what happens next. I bet the kid was a righty.

Oh and let’s not ignore the right to bear arms. That’s a good one!!!!

        HAhahahahahaha Congrats :)

You Americans are becoming the craziest country in the world. You really are – you have absolutely no insight into how sick you are. You are deteriorating into the laughing stock of the world.

“Oh and let’s not ignore the right to bear arms. That’s a good one!” At least we agree on something ;) Let’s definitely not ignore that right, it’s a great one to have indeed.

What grand violence free Utopia are you dwelling in now?

Here let me help speed this up, from Politico:

One woman who said she went to high school with him, and was his friend and bandmate, Caitie Parker, recalled him as “left wing, quite liberal. & oddly obsessed with the 2012 prophecy.”

          http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0111/What_we_know_about_Loughner.html

Really we’re the craziest country in the world, what world are you living in?

Can I join in on the silliness too? America has terrible hospitals ahahahahaha!

          Thanks for the laugh.

        • DisturbingBehavior

Exactly what perfect country do you come from? It’d be nice to get a comparison in order to compare. And please give criteria for what you’d like to consider for craziness, because it is subjective to each person.

Sorry for the bad grammar, got a visit from the government’s department of redundancy department.

I’m happy you don’t live in the states. I dread thinking how much you would lower the average IQ of 308 million people by your presence. Please stay away.

    • Tyler

If this guy showed any evidence that he was inspired by Palin and Beck…he would’ve had better grammar than he did. Feel free to watch his YouTube videos, if you don’t believe me. He’s an IDIOT in addition to being a nutjob.

This Rep. just made a complete ASS of himself. Puffington Host made an ASS out of themselves a long time ago. Why is no one mentioning the Judge that was killed? His family and the family of others that were killed need everybody to just HUSH. Especially these Drama Queen Liberals.

  • Sm2bzy

shooters former classmates tweet that he is a pot smoking left wing liberal who supports Nancy Pelosi and open boarders. He listed Communist Manifesto as favorite book on his MySpace page, also burns American Flag on the page. Go to Hillbuzz.org as MySpace and Facebook have scrubbed his page.

When a public official gets shot in the head, it’s easy to lose our perspective and forget that the real victim here is Sarah Palin. I blame Obama and maybe George Soros.

Where can we send condolence cards to Sarah Palin?

    • Olympicleprechaun

Why do you need us to give you an address? I am sure you had previously offered condolences to her when haters burned her church down, hacked into and published her e-mails, threatened her and her daughters with gang rape, called them whores and c**ts, hung her in effigy, send her daughter bristol envelopes with white powder in them, set up a display where for a dollar(?) you could shoot at cardboard
cutouts of her and her children.

Just to name a few. You certainly were sympathetic to the Palin family that has been buried under psychotic hate for over two years now, right? Right?

      • http://gripernews.blogspot.com Wisco

Whoa, whoa, whoa there little Irish athlete.

I’m just saying that whenever someone who’s been “targeted” by Palin winds up shot, we have to remember that the REAL victim is Sarah Palin — not a 9 year-old girl dead on a slab someplace or a husband who died protecting his wife from someone’s God-Given Second Amendment Remedies.

Let’s dial it down a notch and not get crazy here, OK?

  • Bernan11

Politics is no joke, it’s not a football game where you pump up your side with war words and not really use bullets.

  • Bernan11

    Something Sara Palin doesn’t comprehend.

  • David

The nutbag shooter hated religious expression and listed mein kampf and the communist manifesto as his favorite books on his social network page (before it was taken down). Based on that, If anything the shooter was a far-left nutbag. The only quasi-far right thing the shooter was for was to back the currency with gold. But it doesnt surprise me – the left does this anytime something bad happens. Solidarity for one day – then the Trajedy Exploitation starts the next.

    • Tyler

Seems like the exploitation started pretty immediately. That combined with the possibility of another guy in his 50s being involved makes one wonder if there was something more deliberate about the shooting.

  • Mediaaccess

I don’t even know what to say, except these guys take the cake when defining, “Idióta”!!

    True “HATE SPEECH” Anyone?

**The following is from a THREE YEAR OLD POST on “Patterico’s Pontifications”. Some of the names may not ring a bell with the newly-awakened (politically), but a few of the above ‘favorite sons’ of ‘moral superiority’ and ‘chagrined outrage’ at such ‘violent rhetoric’ as a map with bullseyes on it and ‘targeted districts’… are listed below, PROUDLY showing their “CARE-FULL” “tolerance” for ANY opposite position or personage.

NOTE ESPECIALLY THE WISELY SEDATE ~markos~ AND HIS WORDS ON OUR FELLOW AMERICAN CITIZENS’ MURDERS, BURNING AND HANGING FROM A BRIDGE IN IRAQ.

    __________________________________________________________

    3/5/2007
No Hate Speech by Prominent Leftists?

A certain intellectual fraud who goes by the name of Glenn Greenwald (as well as a few other names) recently said that leftist hate speech is not uttered by prominent leftist figures, but rather only by anonymous blog comments and e-mailers:

[I]t is undeniably true that there are people of every ideological stripe who express profane and reprehensible sentiments. The difference is that right-wing authors, talk radio hosts and bloggers — read and listened to by millions of people — traffic in such sentiments regularly . . . . But to find such sentiments outside of right-wing circles, one must go where right-wing bloggers went today — digging into anonymous blog comments (or e-mails allegedly received). That difference is so obvious — and so meaningful — that it all ought to go without saying.

This post puts the lie to Greenwald’s ridiculous assertion.

Below I have listed more than 20 examples of hate speech by prominent leftist figures, such as politicians, journalists writing for major newspapers or radio networks, television and movie industry personalities, and the like.

I have restricted the examples to true hate speech, such as calling for (or exulting over) the beating and/or deaths of conservatives, or naked racism and anti-Semitism. I have deliberately excluded speech that simply brands conservatives as Nazis or fascists. Such speech is hateful, but I want to leave minimum room for leftists to quibble with the list.

Brace yourself for the leftist hate:

    * National Public Radio legal affairs correspondent Nina Totenberg:

[I]f there is retributive justice [Sen. Jesse Helms] will get AIDS from a transfusion, or one of his grandchildren will get it.

    * USA Today syndicated columnist Julianne Malveaux, on Clarence Thomas:

I hope his wife feeds him lots of eggs and butter and he dies early like many black men do, of heart disease.

    * Washington Post syndicated columnist Richard Cohen:

For hypocrisy, for sheer gall, [Newt] Gingrich should be hanged.

    * Comedian and (former) talk show host Craig Kilborn [Caption under footage of George W. Bush]:

    Snipers Wanted

    * Members of the St. Petersburg Democratic Club:

And then there’s Rumsfeld who said of Iraq “We have our good days and our bad days.” We should put this S.O.B. up against a wall and say “This is one of our bad days” and pull the trigger.

    * Actor Alec Baldwin on Conan O’Brien:

[I]f we were in other countries, we would all right now, all of us together, all of us together would go down to Washington and we would stone Henry Hyde to death! We would stone him to death! [crowd cheers] Wait! Shut up! Shut up! No shut up! I’m not finished. We would stone Henry Hyde to death and we would go to their homes and we’d kill their wives and their children. We would kill their families.

    * Comedian Chris Rock:

If President Clinton would pardon me I would whip Starr’s ass right now. I will get a crew from Brooklyn and we will stomp him like, like, we’re Savion Glover. We’ll stomp him like it’s bringing da noise.

    * Director Spike Lee on Charlton Heston:

Shoot him with a .44 caliber Bulldog.

    * James Carville on Ken Starr:

He’s one more mistake away from not having any kneecaps.

    * Syndicated columnist Alexander Cockburn:

There is a sound case to be made for dropping a tactical nuclear weapon on the Cuban section of Miami. The move would be applauded heartily by most Americans. Alas, Operation Good Riddance would require the sort of mature political courage sadly lacking in Washington, D.C., these days.

    * Columnist, author, media pundit, journalist, and newspaper editor Dan Savage:

My plan? Get close enough to Bauer to give him the flu, which, if I am successful, will lay him flat just before the New Hampshire primary. I’ll go to Bauer’s campaign office and cough on everything. Phones and pens. Staplers and staffers. I even hatch a plan to infect the candidate himself; I’ll keep a pen in my mouth until Bauer drops by his offices to rally the troops. And when he does, I’ll approach him and ask for his autograph, handing him the pen from my flu-virus-incubating mouth.

That column also appeared on Salon.com. It was a little more than hate “speech” — the guy actually did try to give Gary Bauer the flu.

    It’s racism you want?

    * Democrat Senator Robert Byrd:

There are white niggers. I’ve seen a lot of white niggers in my time. I’m going to use that word.

    * Democrat presidential candidate Jesse Jackson on Jews:

    Hymies

    and on New York City:

    Hymietown

    * During his presidential campaign, Jesse Jackson was linked with (and refused to denounce) Louis Farrakhan, who has at times been linked with the Congressional Black Caucus, which also supported his Million Man March. Farrakhan is a man of the left who has been a harsh critic of President Bush.
    o Here’s Farrakhan on Jews:

Many of the Jews who owned the homes, the apartments in the black community, we considered them bloodsuckers because they took from our community and built their community but didn’t offer anything back to our community.

o Farrakhan on Pope John Paul II:

    no good cracker

    o Farrakhan on white people:

White people are potential humans – they haven’t evolved yet.

    o And again:

Murder and lying comes easy for white people.

Does it count as “hate” speech if you say you “hate” Republicans?

    * Howard Dean:

I hate the Republicans and everything they stand for . . .

    Back to assassination wishes:

    * British pundit Charlie Brooker, during the presidency of George W. Bush:

John Wilkes Booth, Lee Harvey Oswald, John Hinckley Jr. — where are you now that we need you?

Actual elected officials have engaged in hate speech:

    * Democrat Representative Pete Stark, speaking to a Republican:

You think you are big enough to make me, you little wimp? Come on. Come over here and make me, I dare you. You little fruitcake.

    * Alabama Democratic congressional incumbent Earl Hilliard, on challenger, Artur Davis:

Davis and the Jews, No Good for the Black Belt

    Let’s not forget the bloggers:

    * Markos Moulitsas Zuniga crowed over the death of American contractors in Iraq:

I feel nothing over the death of merceneries [sic]. They aren’t in Iraq because of orders, or because they are there trying to help the people make Iraq a better place. They are there to wage war for profit. Screw them.

    * Duncan “Atrios” Black discussing ABC’s The Note:

[M]y take on The Note has always been, with apologies to Douglas Adams:

A bunch of mindless jerks who will be first up against the wall when the revolution comes.

    * Huffington Post blogger Tony Hendra wished for Dick Cheney to die:

O Lord, give Dick Cheney’s Heart, Our Sacred Secret Weapon, the strength to try one more time! For greater love hath no heart than that it lay down its life to rid the planet of its Number One Human Tumor.

How about this op-ed from 2003 on the subject of NOT ONLY the vile, openly venomous HATE SPEECH that pours regularly from the “left”… but also their LONG-STANDING SYSTEMIC “hornetizing” (new word I just coined to describe their instant, systemic SWARM-ATTACK of any perceived grievance from those outside their mule muffin empire… I like it.).

So tell me just what is so hateful about pointing out obvious calls to violent actions? What is so hateful about telling the truth? Sorry people but the evidence is overwhelming and cannot be removed when it comes to the likes of Palin, Bachman, Beck, Limbaugh etc…

  • Not blue not red

is it surprising that this site does not allow you to like comments with dissenting views…If Sarah Palin had any shred of moral fiber then she would take some responsibility, but what most people fail to realize is she is out there for herself and could care less about the USA.

  • ethrop

Krugman, Daly, Grijalva, Fonda et al. are entirely correct. Palin never pulled the trigger, she just showed the lunatics where to shoot. As Giffords sid herself: words have consequences.

    • DisturbingBehavior

Can you explain the Fort Hood shooter? What about the guy who held up the Discovery Channel? What about the guy who shot up the Holocaust Museum? What about the students at Columbine?
Best yet, just explain to me Charles Whitman.
Why is it so hard to accept some people are just CRAZY with no logical reason behind it.

the placebo effect is an increase in sugar, I’ve never met anyone named subliminal while using an instant message, and i might suggest a Nissan Altima or Honda Civic.

I would say she put the crosshairs up there. She said “reload.”

    What’s to question?

    • DisturbingBehavior

You said “reload” just now. Who is “up there” for your reference? Are you targeting someone? OMG, please, someone warn the authorities. There might be a crazy guy who takes your message as a plot against the Hostess Twinkies factories.
We must save the twinkies. Think of what you’re saying. You may have just doomed us to a life without twinkies. Take it back, before someone acts on your assumption of “reload”.

  • Guest

There must be some reasons why people do feel like that. isn’t?
After all crosshairs and ” shoot an M16″ statements are real.

  • http://twitter.com/SueDinNY SueDinNY

Yes. Disgusting. Read the paper this morning – had article by McClatchy intimating this was caused by the Tea Party, etc. Mentioned some politicians had been spit upon during debate on HC Bill which is absolutely false. I am so sick of the press and it’s OPINION pieces dressed up like objective journalism. They have no idea what this young man was thinking. His facebook said one of his favorite books was the communist manifesto, obviously not a book a right-winger would have as a favorite. I believe the left does this to throw the stink off themselves. Then, when it’s found they’re the wackos, there’s no news of it. We conservatives really need to take over papers, major news stations, etc. and restore unbiased news. Saw the Manchurian Candidate this weekend. Still rings true. Bad people with bad intentions in our midst.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_DI3GGGWOV4IQVXOTAUWMSWNWOY Jenna

The left just wants to silence the opposition. In the famous words of Rham “Never let a crisis go to waste”….shame on the left for politicizing this tragedy!!

  • sally

Here’s how I see it: Most people have political beliefs.
    Some people are mentally ill.
Some mentally ill people commit crimes.
When a mentally ill person commits a crime, why do we focus on his or her political beliefs?
When that Manson follower tried to kill Pres. Ford, did we focus on her political beliefs? No; we thought she was crazy. And she was crazy.

Loughner is crazy; it doesn’t matter what his political beliefs are, because whether he’s liberal or conservative, he would have done this anyway.

  • Rainyday

Lone gunman again? Trouble is, all the dead are Democrats. They always are. Coincidence? I think not. The time has come to see some dead Republicans before I’ll swallow the “politics had nothing to do with it” spin the right wants to peddle. Until then, all the blood in on right wing hands. As Janet Jackson said “two wrongs don’t make it right, but it damn sure makes it even”.

    • Marti17

How many of the killers have also been democrats – would really like to know.

    • Marti17

“The time has come to see some dead Republicans…”??

Abe Lincoln, James Garfield, and William McKinley
Not to forget attempted assassinations(involving guns) of Teddy Roosevelt, Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagen, and George W. Bush. Nixon almost had a similar attempt as the one on Bill Clinton.
