John Kirby at the State Department is being pilloried for his comments that seem to say that the payment to Iran completely fit the definition of a ransom payment for hostages, but it isn’t a hostage payment. Just because.

Reporter to John Kirby: "It seems like such a ridiculous explanation it shocks me that you're actually providing it"https://t.co/typHndIq1Q

At one point, the CNN reporter says, “it seems like such a ridiculous explanation it shocks me that you’re actually providing it.”
Here he is later trying to clarify, and doing it poorly:
His argument is that usually there is an order to a hostage payment, but that doesn’t matter. Iran knows they can trust us because we’re America, and we cannot trust them. So the order is pointless. He also says that Obama already told us that it’s OK! LOL!! So there’s no issue because the President says so? Amazing.
