The sermon at the Royal Wedding was controversial – for exactly the WRONG reason

SO there’s a bunch of people who were upset at the sermon at the Royal Wedding today. It’s because the Rev. Michael Curry, an Episcopalian, mentioned slavery and cited Martin Luther King Jr.

So everyone is using the moment to slam each other up and down:

Now, this is a dumb opinion. He only cited a negro spiritual from slaves in the antebellum South. He didn’t make it political, he just cited a beautiful song they sang about God’s love.

But it should be controversial for a much different reason – there were very little mention of Jesus Christ. The reverend cited the Bible a few times, but it was mostly about love that people have for each other.

Now that’s not a bad thing, but a sermon should always focus on one thing – the redemptive act of God in offering Himself as a sacrifice to save all of humanity from their sins. He barely mentioned it.

But everyone is all upset about politics… and that says more about us than anything.
