Tillerson defends Trump, says there is NO imminent threat from N. Korea

Tillerson is defending Trump’s rhetoric this morning against Pyongyang, while also telling Americans to remain calm because there are no imminent threats from N. Korea:

NY POST – Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said President Trump is sending a “strong message” to catch the attention of the North Korean leader when he said any threats by the rogue regime would be met with “fire and fury.”

”What the president is doing is sending a strong message to North Korea in language that Kim Jong Un can understand, because he doesn’t seem to understand diplomatic language,” Tillerson said on Wednesday, according to the Associated Press. “I think the president just wanted to be clear to the North Korean regime on the U.S. unquestionable ability to defend itself, will defend itself and its allies.”

He urged Americans to remain calm and said they should have “no concerns” despite the heated rhetoric while insisting he doesn’t believe there is “any imminent threat.”

“Americans should sleep well at night,” Tillerson said.

He also dismissed claims that the White House was moving closer to executing a military option in the face of mounting threats from Kim’s regime, which he said indicates that US actions are having an effect.

”The pressure is starting to show,” Tillerson said. “I think that’s why the rhetoric coming out of Pyongyang is beginning to become louder and more threatening. Whether we’ve got them backed into a corner or not is difficult to say, but diplomatically, you never like to have someone in a corner without a way for them to get out.”

I get the feeling Trump and Tillerson are like good cop, bad cop. Tillerson plays the role of the good cop, trying to reassure N. Korea that while we are serious, we can be their best friends if they’ll just cooperate. He’s also the one telling everyone that everything is gonna be ok and to just go back to sleep.

Meanwhile Trump comes in and slaps the Norks around a bit and tries to intimidate them with some over the top rhetoric and indirect threats about nukes.

I’m sure i’m overthinking it, but this is just what it reminds of as we see them both make public statements.
