When Trump tweeted a couple of weeks ago, it sounded like he might be leaning towards a meeting in the demilitarized zone:
Numerous countries are being considered for the MEETING, but would Peace House/Freedom House, on the Border of North & South Korea, be a more Representative, Important and Lasting site than a third party country? Just asking!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) April 30, 2018
But according to new reporting, Trump has officially ruled that out:
NY POST – President Trump on Wednesday ruled out the Korean Demilitarized Zone for his upcoming sitdown with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un.
Trump had said he was interested in holding the historic meeting on the heavily fortified border separating North and South Korea.
But he nixed that option as he kicked off a Cabinet meeting at the White House.
Trump said details of the Kim meeting will be announced in the next two or three days, and that the meeting was expected to be held in late May or early June.
Actually I’m very glad Trump has ruled this out. I don’t know much about the security ins and outs, but it sounds like it could be a security nightmare, especially if Un was planning something.
I think it would be better to hold the summit in a neutral country.
