Trump deports illegal who was brought here as a child and reportedly has no criminal record…

Yesterday while most people were celebrating MLK Jr. day, ICE agents were deporting an illegal immigration who was brought here by a relative when he was 10-years-old.

Here’s the story:

MSN – After 30 years of living in the United States, Jorge Garcia, a 39-year-old landscaper from Lincoln Park, Mich., was deported on the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday to Mexico, a move his supporters say is another example of immigrants being unfairly targeted under the Trump administration.

An undocumented family member brought Jorge Garcia to the U.S. when he was 10 years old. Today he has a wife and two children, all of whom are U.S. citizens.

Jorge Garcia had been facing an order of removal from immigration courts since 2009, but under the previous administration, he had been given stays of removal. Because of the Trump administration’s crackdown on immigration, in November Jorge Garcia was ordered to return to Mexico.

His supporters say he has no criminal record — not even a traffic ticket — and pays taxes every year.

Jorge Garcia is too old to qualify for the federal Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, which allows children of undocumented immigrants who came to the United States before age 16 and were born after June 15, 1981, to legally work and study here.

Jorge Garcia said he had asked ICE officials if they could wait until new DACA legislation is passed, which might expand the age range for immigrants to qualify. But they refused and said he had to leave by Jan. 15.

An ICE spokesman told the Free Press on Monday that he could not immediately comment because it was a federal holiday and ICE offices were closed.

The courts had ordered Garcia deported back in 2009, but the Obama admin kept waiving the deportation. The Trump administration apparently decided to honor the court’s order and deported him yesterday.

While I’m mixed on this, I would never say the Trump admin unfairly targeted Garcia. He had already been targeted and ordered deported eight years ago.

And we don’t know if he actually had a criminal record or not, only that his ‘supporters’ claim he doesn’t.

That said, the reason I’m mixed on this is that Garcia isn’t the only one here to blame. Sure, he knew he was illegal and never rectified the situation – at least that’s how it appears. But he’s also been led on by previous administrations as well as previous congresses by not enforcing our immigration laws in the first place.

Should he have been deported? Probably, but there’s no doubt that it’s a messy process, especially with a wife and children. But that’s unfortunately the country we live in right now and I don’t think you can fault the Trump administration for finally doing what the courts ordered eight years ago.
