Newt Gingrich is assuring everyone that Trump is taking his new job seriously by adapting the old phrase, “he’s like a dog that caught the car.”
Watch what he says below:
.@NewtGingrich says Trump has realized gravity of the job. Not like a dog that caught up to bus, but "a dog that caught up to the convoy." pic.twitter.com/ZhGc3tpwG6

This is really odd to me because the point of the saying is to talk about someone who doesn’t know what to do with the target of their strivings after they achieve it. But Newt doesn’t deflate that notion – he makes it WORSE by saying Trump is a dog that catches something BIGGER than a car!! Does Newt know how analogies work?
Also, it’s ironic that Newt compares Trump to a dog, given that he loves comparing people he hates to dogs all the time:
Wow, great news! I hear @EWErickson of Red State was fired like a dog. If you read his tweets, you'll understand why. Just doesn't have IT!

Ted Cruz lifts the Bible high into the air and then lies like a dog-over and over again! The Evangelicals in S.C. figured him out & said no!

Wow was Ted Cruz disloyal to his very capable director of communication. He used him as a scape goat-fired like a dog! Ted panicked.

.@BrentBozell, one of the National Review lightweights, came to my office begging for money like a dog. Why doesn't he say that?

Everyone else gets fired like a dog, but Trump got hired like a dog. Which is a good thing!!!
