I’m not exactly sure what this means, but Trump tweeted late last night that he wants to strengthen background checks:
Whether we are Republican or Democrat, we must now focus on strengthening Background Checks!

If Trump is talking about the so-called ‘gun show loophole’ that Democrats love to rave against, then I’m out.
If Trump is just talking about actually strengthening the background check process, perhaps in concert with local law enforcement, then I certainly think that’s a discussion we can have. After all, it’s more than clear that Cruz shouldn’t have been able to buy a gun just based on what we now know of his background. I’m quite certain if law enforcement had been part of the process, Cruz would have been denied his gun purchases.
We’ll have to wait and see what Trump himself is referring to, but I suspect it’s the latter. At least I hope it is…
