A lot of people have weighed in on Trump’s pick for Secretary of Education, Betsy DaVos – and the right is divided. We noted with glee that she’s a huge charter school and education voucher supporter, but that’s not the end of the story.
Here’s NeverTrumper-turned-MoroseTrumper Bill Kristol:
Very excited about Betsy DeVos as Ed Sec. Could be strongest since my boss, Bill Bennett–and Betsy will have a more cooperative Congress.

And others praising the pick:
This is an excellent choice. https://t.co/9fVNcuwjgJ

Betsy DeVos opposes #CommonCore. Her groups have fought brilliantly to bring choice to abandoned families. Conservatives should be ecstatic.

Betsy DeVos will be great Secretary of Education.her passion for every child having a good education is proven by years of work in Michigan
— Newt Gingrich (@newtgingrich) November 23, 2016
Liberals are imploding, since this is bad news for teacher’s unions who suppress education and channel tons of money to Democrats:
Trump's picked huge Koch donor club member, billionaire Amway heiress Betsy Devos, as Education Sec. Drain the swamp?
— Jane Mayer (@JaneMayerNYer) November 23, 2016
NEA says @BetsyDeVos has "consistently pushed a corporate agenda to privatize, de-professionalize and impose cookie-cutter solutions" on ed.

Trump names extremist "school choice" activist Betsy DeVos as Ed Secretary. She's also sister of Erik Prince of Blackwater infamy
— jeremy scahill (@jeremyscahill) November 23, 2016
The fact that Betsy DeVos is against Teacher's Unions is more than enough reason that she SHOULDN'T be education secretary.

And the conspiracy-pushing cretins at TrumpBart are freaking out, as Michelle Fields notes:

LOL! So they’re aligned with the left-wing unions on this pick!! Poor precious snowflakes!!
But then more reputable conservative and Common Core critic Michelle Malkin is also upset:
Not so brilliant when she was championing Common Core. If she's a figurehead, who will really run the show? Parents need to know. https://t.co/OwyXnot0kp
— Michelle Malkin (@michellemalkin) November 23, 2016
@BeachDreamin291 that's what i'm commenting on. very wary of devos. anti-common core moms in michigan had to FIGHT her. she's on wrong side.
— Michelle Malkin (@michellemalkin) November 23, 2016
So two things about this – if it’s true that she gave money to the Clinton Foundation, aren’t these the same morons who told us it was perfectly fine for Trump to donate to the Clintons because he’s such a businessman? Not surprising the mindless maggots have such short memories.
And on Common Core, Betsy is pushing back against the critics by saying she is NOT a supporter:
Many of you are asking about Common Core. To clarify, I am not a supporterāperiod. Read my full stance, here: https://t.co/qB2nAXvX0B
— Betsy DeVos (@BetsyDeVos) November 23, 2016
Here’s what the link says:
Q: Thereās been a lot of talk about Common Core. Can you provide some straight talk on this topic?
Certainly. I am not a supporterāperiod.
I do support high standards, strong accountability, and local control. When Governors such as John Engler, Mike Huckabee, and Mike Pence were driving the conversation on voluntary high standards driven by local voices, it all made sense.
Have organizations that I have been a part of supported Common Core? Of course. But thatās not my position. Sometimes itās not just students who need to do their homework.
However, along the way, it got turned into a federalized boondoggle.
Above all, I believe every child, no matter their zip code or their parentsā jobs, deserves access to a quality education.
I’m inclined to think this is a good thing. She seems to be angering the right liberals. And, it’s kinda ironic that the pro-Trumpers are the ones who are so angry when they’ve been the ones telling us to give him a chance…
