Turkey using ISIS attack on tomb of Ottoman grandfather as an excuse to invade Syria

Back in April of this year, a leaked recording exposed how Turkish officials were planning to use an attack on the tomb of Suleyman Shah by ISIS as an excuse to invade Syria where they’d like to take out Assad:

Erdoğan’s government was planning a false flag attack to be executed by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) against the tomb of Suleiman Shah in Syria to justify the intervention of the Turkish army in Syria, therefore making an excuse to spark a war.

Suleiman Shah was the grandfather of Osman I, the founder of the Ottoman Empire, was buried in Aleppo. His grave was relocated in 1973, but it remains a Turkish extraterritorial enclave in Syria.

Months later it looks like their plan is finally beginning to happen:

ISIS State has surrounded the Tomb of Suleyman Shah in Syria, the sole piece of Turkish soil outside its borders. 36 Turkish soldiers are reportedly located at the tomb where they defend the territory.

According to Çetiner Çetin of the daily Turkish newspaper Yeni Şafak, leaders of Arab tribes have confirmed that 1100 ISIS militants are deployed around the tomb as of late Monday night.

According to Breitbart, Turkey is supposed to vote on military action tomorrow:

On Tuesday, Turkey moved soldiers and tanks to the Syrian border. Parliament is expected to vote on military action in Iraq and Syria on Thursday. The proposal is not limited to the Islamic State. It will also allow Turkey to “strike Kurdish militants in northern Iraq and defend itself against any threat from [Syrian President Bashar al-] Assad’s forces.”

That last part is key. Erdogan wants Assad gone and that’s why this intervention is really about. It’s not about fighting ISIS. It’s about giving them a reason to take out Assad:

Turkey will fight against Islamic State and other “terrorist” groups in the region but will stick to its aim of seeing Syrian President Bashar al-Assad removed from power, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said on Wednesday. …

“We will fight effectively against both (Islamic State) and all other terrorist organisations within the region; this will always be our priority,” Erdogan said in a speech at the opening of parliament.

We will (also) continue to prioritise our aim to remove the Syrian regime, to help protect the territorial integrity of Syria and to encourage a constitutional, parliamentary government system which embraces all (of its) citizens.”

Once Erdogan takes out Assad he’s one step closer to his Ottoman Caliphate dream.
