A new poll by Monmouth this morning has Trump up by 8 points in Iowa:

Clinton 37 (down from 42)— Kellyanne Conway (@KellyannePolls) September 15, 2016
So instead of support booming for Trump, it’s really falling away from Hillary. That just gives credence to the idea that the race is tightening because Hillary is just such a horrible candidate, not because Trump is great.
A recent Emerson poll also has Trump up by 5 in Iowa, so this new Monmouth poll is probably more true than not.
Another new poll out today finds that Trump only leads Hillary by +7 points…in TEXAS:

The presidential race might be tighter than usual in Texas, but a new survey found the state’s voters leaning the same way they have in the last nine elections.
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump leads Democrat Hillary Clinton among likely voters in the state 39%-32%, a new Texas Lyceum poll shows. Libertarian Party nominee Gary Johnson picks up the support of 9% and Green Party nominee Jill Stein garners 3%, according to the poll.
A sizable 17% said they don’t know who they’ll vote for.
Texas is considered to be a gimme for the Republican candidate, but +7 points is pretty close for a gimmie state.
Now before you say this is only one poll, let me show you something:
Wow. His RCP average is only +6. That doesn’t sound too good for a gimmie state.
At the end of the day, winning is really all that matters as far as outcomes go. But how you win and how much you win by tells the rest of the story. And right now Trump appears to be only winning in some of these states because Hillary is tanking.
