I don’t really believe this. In fact I think this is an example of Obama talking out of both sides of his mouth:
ISRAEL HAYOM – U.S. Ambassador to Israel Dan Shapiro said Friday morning that the United States would support Israel if it decides to launch a ground incursion into the Gaza Strip as part of Operation Protective Edge.
Speaking to Army Radio, Shapiro said, “Nobody wants a ground operation, and we have the desire that Hamas will stop firing missiles and rockets. But if such circumstances occur, Israel has full American backing to defend itself.”
Even John Bolton said this morning on Fox News that Obama offering to negotiate a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas wasn’t really an offer at all, but pressure on Israel not to escalate their attacks on Hamas.
So when I hear the US Ambassador to Israel say such things, I just don’t believe it. I think it’s more likely that Obama backs Turkey’s position but just won’t say it out loud.
