Amanda Carpenter appeared on CNN with Jake Tapper a few minutes ago to do what she should never have had to do in the first place, defend herself against smears being spread about her by the Trump campaign.
Specifically Dan Scavino, Trump’s social media director, has been the one smearing her online as we pointed out yesterday.

Amanda tells Tapper there’s a toxic environment being created during this campaign season and she’s witnessed it first hand in the last week as people have been rummaging for every photo they can find of her to suggest she was in some illicit affair with her old boss, Ted Cruz.
All of this has obviously taken a toll on Amanda as you can see the sadness in her eyes as she deals with this in the interview. Kudos to Amanda for being strong and hitting this head on. It’s not an enviable place to be, but she doesn’t stand there alone. Clearly CNN has her back.
