WATCH: Emotional General Kelly SLAMS Democrat Congresswoman for listening in on presidential phone call

General Kelly spoke to the press today about the phone calls that President Trump made to the family members of the fallen soldiers in Niger.

He said many things, but the first I want to point out is how harshly he criticized the Democrat Congresswoman for listening in on the phone call from the President and then twisting his message:

Kelly explains the message that the president was conveying to the wife:

He’s a brave man, a fallen hero. He knew what he was getting himself into because he enlisted – there’s no reason to enlist – he enlisted. And he was where he wanted to be – exactly where he wanted to be with exactly the people he wanted to be with when his life was taken.

That was the message. That was the message that was transmitted!

He then hammers the Congresswoman for listening into the call:

It stuns me that a member of Congress would’ve listened in on that conversation! Absolutely stuns me! And I thought at least that was sacred.

As an aside:

Kelly also explained the advice he gave to Trump in the first place, was to NOT call the family members of the fallen because it’s not a phone call anyone is ever looking forward to:

Kelly says it’s nice to do these calls, but it’s just a tough situation.

He also explained in the video above that he wasn’t criticizing Obama for not calling him. He was just pointing out to Trump that not every president chooses to call, that some just write letters and call when they can.

I think Trump, in comparing himself to other presidents, cast it in a negative light and that’s why Kelly came out to clarify the full context of his remarks to Trump.

Kelly also added this about the phone calls, saying they are the most difficult thing you can imagine:

In that context, you can really see why Kelly is so upset with this Democrat Congresswoman from Florida. She took a very vulnerable and sacred moment and twisted it to make Trump sound like he doesn’t care or that he’s an idiot or something.

Kelly did tell reporters the calls really mattered to him when his son died:

And lastly, Kelly explains the process that occurs after a soldier dies on foreign soil in getting the body back to Dover.
