Knock ’em out, Cain…
Oct. 11, 2011 – 5:38 PM EST updated
WOOOO HOOOOO!!! And PPP is a Democrat polling firm… GO CAIN!!!
October 11, 2011
Cain vaults into lead over Romney in Iowa caucus, Perry in 4th
Raleigh, N.C. – Herman Cain has surged into the lead in Iowa, and Rick Perry and Michele Bachmann crashed, with three months still to go in the race for the first nominating contest. Cain has 30% to Mitt Romney’s 22%, Ron Paul’s 10%, Perry’s 9%, Newt Gingrich’s and Bachmann’s 8%, Rick Santorum’s 5%, and Jon Huntsman’s and Gary Johnson’s 1%. When PPP last polled the state in August, just after Bachmann’s straw poll win and Perry’s entrance into the race, Perry led with 22% to Romney’s 19%, Bachmann’s 18%, Paul’s 16%, Cain’s 7%, and Gingrich’s and Santorum’s 5%, so Perry has dropped 13 points, Bachmann ten, and Paul six, while Cain is up a whopping 23 points, and Romney and Gingrich each three over the course of a month and a half.
Cain’s support could only grow if other candidates are not viable at certain caucus sites. He and Gingrich, who were first and second in PPP polls in North Carolina, West Virginia, and Nebraska last week, get the most second-choice support. Gingrich is the fallback of 17%, followed by Cain’s 16%, Perry’s 12%, Romney’s and Bachmann’s 11%, and Paul’s 9%. Cain gets the plurality of Bachmann’s, Santorum’s, and surprisingly, Romney’s backers, while Gingrich gets Cain’s and Paul’s, and Romney pulls Gingrich’s and Huntsman’s. Perry’s support is spread around.
Cain leads Romney 2:1 (38-19) among the 42% who say they are firmly committed to their first choice, while the two are tied at 27% among the 58% who may change their mind. Johnson, with his one supporter, has the most committed yet small base. His libertarian compatriate Paul is next; 53% of his voters are with him, do or die, then 52% of Perry’s, half of Cain’s, 43% of Gingrich’s, and then only 34% of Romney’s and a quarter of Bachmann’s. Romney has had consistent but soft support.
“Herman Cain not only has the lead in Iowa, he also has far more committed supporters than Mitt Romney,” said Dean Debnam, President of Public Policy Polling.
My fingers are crossed…..(Cain- don’t smurf it up).
Thanks for posting, looking forward to it.
I’m worried about all of them and the audience. Why Republicans allow this sort of travesty is beyond me. The Washington Post and Bloomberg? With Charlie Rose? Can you imagine Democrats getting anywhere near a Fox News Channel debate with Mark Levin as moderator? Of course not. But Republicans just can’t say no.
Oh, this is not going to be good.
The GOP is liblite! Why not;-(
That’s a good point…..
LMAO@ a debate hosted by Levin- “That’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard! Next!” Generous use of the word stupid, and I would pay a few bucks to watch.
I’m listening to Mark now and he is absolutely eviscerating Christie and Romney. Even Allahpundit rips both of them. Oh my God. A beta male shows some spine for once.
AP is a POS
Will we Brits be able to view a copy of the full debate tommorrow on TRS?
Could this force the GOP to quit screwing around with Rick Romney?
Yawn. No thanks.
Okay, Im in if there’s room.
Although this is in New Hampshire, Romney country, I hope to hear more from Gingrich and Santorum on this subject.
As a New Jerseyan, I do not think that Christie’s endorsement of Romney is much.
I am also from NJ and his endorsement means nothing to me!
Is BBC avail on Roku for the debate?
I’m 30 and don’t know who Charlie Rose is… Is that bad?
You are about to find out.
you haven’t missed a thing. He is Chris Matthews with a pompous ivy league accent.
Hi to Lori, I am not on Twitter.
Romney, Cain and Huntsman may be terrific businessmen, but you cannot go around hiring and firing people in government like you can in a business. If you do not like say a head of a Congressional Committee because he flat out disagrees with you, you can’t just up and fire him. This is just one small example of all business and no political policy. Gingrich and Santorum are well qualified to know the difference.
Romney/Cain are experts in putting people out of work. I don know about Huntsman business experience but I do know that Gov Perry has done a great job in helping businesses to create jobs in Texas.
the cf begins…
Cain really sounds like an idiot saying “999” over and over again everytime he is asked question.
Perry is doing a decent job so far.
Newt is very well spoken as week. Yes! Dodd and Frank should be put in jail!
Good explanation Ron Paul!
Santorum is as much a IDIOT as Cain.
Cain is everyone’s #2 candidate so be careful when your #1 whoever he or she is does not come in as #1
Anybody want to bet that Cain says “999” the next time he answers a question?
Why do u not like Cain?
He says he’ll stop if you promise to quit posting so many pointless comments.
LOL How did you know?
Anybody want to bet that Leo writes “999 sucks” the next time he feels an overwhelming urge to say something stupid?
Unions are the # 1 reason jobs are run out of the US.
afro trolls are the worst.
Bachmann is intelligent. Too bad she made that stupid remark about Gardasil causing mental retardation.
You mean she can remember her talking points?
Two out of Cain/Gingrich/Bachman will make a mean combo…
Why is Huntsman even in this debate? NOT a
candidate for the GOP.
I LOVE IT! Huntsman thought that Cain’s “999” was the price of a Pizza.
So far Cain has said “999” about 20 times in 2 minutes.
Mainstream people like the 999 plan… they actually bring it up when I have conversations with fellow neighbors.
Delivered in 30 mins or less?
LOL! Say something new!
Lol I’m on iPad and can’t watch the debate;-)
I can’t remember anything that Perry has said. What is his economic plan? Did he say that he was still working on it again?
He would make a good secretary of energy in the Cain administration.
Nein Nein Nein to Cain
why is it so hard for Mitt to say NO BAILOUTS!!!??? WTF!!!
ROMNEY IS FOR ENDLESS BAILOUTS!
CAIN DISAPPOINTED ME ON THE BAILOUT ISSUE.
Cain said he was going after Romney but he is already defending Romney at least didn’t say “999” again.
Keynesian economics! your right again.
Governor Christie endorses Romney? I guess since Christi is against the Cole industry and FOR same sex marriage, AGAINST the second amendment means this is where Romney stands? Just askin?
Romney is slick unlike his running mate Cain but neither one of them is trustworthy.
Damn it, Newt! Stop making me like you more!
It’s a shame. Newt is the most qualified candidate and would own Obama in any debate about any area of government. Unfortunately he has a problem with his zipper.
Perry is useless… take Buttsman with you and go home already.
Perry hit it out of the park with his proposal of a balanced budget amendment.
Perry is the only one to be applauded so far.
I can’t believe it. Now Romney is trying to act like he agrees with Perry. What a scumbag.
i bet you’d sniff perrys boxers.
charlie rose makes me sick.
Glad they are nailing Cain on the STUPIDITY of his 999 plan. Cain responds by saying 999…999…999…999…999…999.
GREAT ANSWER by Perry, “We don’t need 999…”
go away troll.
Caught it just in time to see Gov. Perry fumble all over himself again. What has happened to my governor. Please let Rick be Rick! He is getting way overcoached. That is the only explanation.
Thank you SO much for this. I have ur stream AND BB’s stream side by side. BB continually lags. Seems intentional but I’m sure it’s just underanticipation of the qty of viewers. Again, the left underestimates our fury.
Great logic Sen. Santorum. We can’t do 9-9-9 because Pelosi will raise the taxes. LMAO. By that logic, we cannot do anything! Santorum needs to go. He has no chance.
GREAT ANSWER by Santorum NAILING Cain on 999.
Proud of Gov Perry – he recognized all the horse poop everyone was spewing!
perry is dead in the water.
Sad. But true.
Cain sounds great. Conservative people are done with RINO’s…
Who did Romney’s hair? He’s got a bald spot on the back of his head. That won’t beat Obama people.
Loan him some of yourslol
That’s where the batteries go.
LOL! Where does the 999 energizer turtle put his 999 batteries? LOL!
The 999 plan truly resonates with the American people.
Who is this Ron Paul Guy? Didn’t he come in 2ND in Iowa? Just askin! Why are they focusing on Mitt for Brains and Scary Perry?
I can’t wait til the other candidates start NAILING Cain on his MORONIC 999 plan. Santorum, Newt, and Bachmann will destroy Cain’s 999 BS.
Has Charlie Rose been drinking?
He does look like he’s got the hangover.
What a STUPID question by Cain. He can’t even ask a question without saying 999?
It sounds like Romney rehearsed his answer to Cain’s IDIOTIC question.
i see there are a lot of paulbots bashing every one except paul??????
GREAT QUESTION by Paul to Former Fed Chair Cain about his wanting to keep Fed Records secret.
As was Cain’s answer.
Romney talks about “rich” vs “poor” in his economic plan as asked by newt….talking like obama? RINO RINO RINO
How about ALL AMERICANS get to be successful as they see fit?
I was hoping 999 meant the number of deportations per hour.
As Huntsman said I thought Cain’s 999 plan was the cost of a Pizza.
The Pizza remark was standard liberal marginalize the messenger by goofing on his achievement.
No the pizza comment was a JOKE about THE JOKE Cain.
A reply fitting of a moron. Good answer.
GREAT QUESTION by Santorum about Cain’s FOOLISH 999 plan.
No Santorum Mr. 999 Cain will not be President forever. Mr. 999 will NEVER be President.
Are you the person that Larry Flynt has been looking for?
Welcome to the premiere of “The Mitt Show”
This debate has been painful.
CAIN HAS DESTROYED HIMSELF BY LINKING W/ GREENSPAM. sorry cain. it was nice knowing you.
Cain is obviously an IDIOT!
ron paul…..haaahaaahhaa what a dufus look on his face…Greenspan comment
Alan Greenspan is 85 years old and the IDIOT Cain wants to reappoint him as Chairman of the Federal Reserve.
Ron Paul is right. Greenspan was a DISASTER.
No, he said he would appoint someone like Greenspan and that he already has two people lined up for the job.
I know you have a complete and utterly rabid hatred for all things Cain, but seriously…
I just heard Romney say that ‘he thought Obama means well enough but is just in over his head’!
Is this guy out of his mind? And HE is going to be our nomniee…. Lord help us!
Romney is a Mormon. BO is a Muslim. They just don’t think like normal people think.
Does gingrich get to answer any questions?
These debate formats suck. Never enough time for ALL the candidates to answer/rebut questions.
I did like the fact that they sat at a table and asked each other questions. I like that much better than ‘gotcha questions’ from the moderators.
Perry has had the same programs as Obama has had that caused the Solyndra taxpayer losses? Why is that right for states and not the Feds? Your state can waste your tax money and that’s okay?
No one oversaw Obama’s investment. In Texas there is oversight.
The BO regime is a criminal enterprise.
** See US Constitution
Just because something is constitutional doesn’t make it right. State governments are not models of efficiency and ethics either. The Constitution has nothing to do with it. I haven’t seen any arguments that the Solyndra investments were unconstitutional. Taxpayers are nevertheless out a half billion dollars. Limited government means government that doesn’t think it knows how to invest the people’s money better than the people.
Great answer by Newt!
If you are out of work, just dial 999 and Herman will deliver you a pizza. What a IDIOT!
Shouldn’t investors do the investing and government stick to governing? If the prospects for an investment was attractive, wouldn’t investors fund it? Doesn’t involving the government just invite inefficiency and corruption?
Why does Huntsman always look like he’s having a bowel movement when he talks?
LOL! Maybe it’s a Mormon thang? LOL!
Charley rose Is a creepy dude.
Perry is a humble man, too humble, but far better than the NARCISSTS Romney/Cain.
Humble doesn’t win elections. Having a pulse helps, though.
He has an awful lot to be humble about.
It’s a shame that you are so annoying. Perry used to be my second favorite candidate but by associating him with you, I am liking him less and less.
I second that.
Leo, are you from Texas or live here currently? I don’t think you really know Perry.
I think Romney won this debate (I’m sorry to say). He really answers and reacts well, maintains an energy level, looks like a “nice guy”, gave substantive replies. Perry, by contrast loses – he mostly answered flatly with no energy. Cain held his own under attack, but disappointed with the Greenspan love.
I believe Romney threw a softball question to Bachmann because he would choose her as a running mate to pull in the Tea Party.
Romney was shown for the LYING LIBERAL that he is in this debate.
And Cain was shown for the IDIOT that he is.
You said that already. Perhaps you can stop noising up the forum.
Agree. Perry needed to impress but did not – his numbers will keep sliding. Herman needs to announce his prospects for the fed to make the Greenspan nod go away. That was a mistake.
Romney did that to help Bachmann beat up on Cain.
Employees arn’t paying 15.3% of thier W2 income for medicare & social security taxes. That 15.3% is split 50-50 between the employee and employer.
That is a distinction without a difference. Employers hire people based on the total money that they will cost them. Just because the employer technically pays only half the payroll tax doesn’t mean that the employee really isn’t paying the whole amount from an economic standpoint. That is a government slight of hand that most people fall for – as are a myriad other tricks in our 70,000 pages of tax code. Almost all of those pages would go away under the FairTax, which is phase II of 9-9-9.
Romney/Cain clearly lost the debate.
Wow. Keep dreaming.
He’s not my favorite candidate, but objectively speaking, I have to say that Romney won the most points from this debate, but not overwhelmingly.
Absolutely right. He scored the most points and looked good doing it. Unfortunately, I’ll never trust him to be a real conservative. His credentials are paper thin.
Romney is not the most conservative candidate in the field, and I would vote for Cain, Bachmann, or Gingrich over him, but I do believe he is a true conservative, RomneyCare notwithstanding. He was governing in a very liberal state, and I think that given the opportunity, he will show a more conservative side should he become president. Perry, on the other hand, does scare me with his immigration policy – “doesn’t have a heart”. Neither belongs in my avatar picture, but they both have holes in their records. That’s why I would choose Cain.
BO would definitely rather have Romney or Perry than Herman Cain. He would paint Romney as Mr. Wall St. and Perry as another Bush. The latter argument isn’t fair, but to a lot of stupid people, it would work. Another vulnerability of Perry is that people like Leo like him. They may find out who Leo is and show a picture of him in a television commercial and dig up some of his stupid posts. That would certainly be the end for Perry. I don’t think they would quite know how to come after Herman Cain.
VERY good point. The single most damaging thing the media did to the image of the Republican party is to portray them as a bunch of ignorant, bigoted Rednecks.
We have narco-terrorism taking over the border,Fast & Furious …CRICKETS. What a joke!
I thought Newt did the best.
Newt is brilliant but his energy tapers off in these debates. By the end, he acts magnanimous about everyone around the table but doesn’t score any points.
Notice the first thing they go into is 999, because the other candidates don’t have a program, leastways anyone can understand.
— and Austin Goolsbee, give me a break!! Putting the Obama admin reject in charge of analysis.
Cain 999’s plan would increase the tax base = new taxes = Not good for this weak economy in America
Increasing the tax base means you create new tax payers (because they’re working (due to a hospitable business climate that includes reduced taxes) and contributing to revenues)), not new taxes.
Yes, increase the tax base…more people PAYING taxes but at a lower percentage. This would eventually be replaced by a consumption tax which would completely get rid of income taxes. Great news for everyone:)
The 9% personal tax replaces the tens of thousands of pages of tax code, most importantly the personal income tax, the payroll tax and the death tax.
The 9% business flat tax decreases the corporate tax rate from 35%. It will make our products much more competitive overseas and will therefore boost manufacturing and jobs.
The 9% sales tax is a consumption tax and is the first step towards entirely scrapping the income tax and replacing it with the FairTax. The income tax punishes productivity and investment. Because it is simple and transparent, people would at least know haw much they are paying in taxes. With our current tax code, it is so complex that it’s far too easy for the government to increase taxes.
One can snipe at particulars in the plan but it is a bold plan that would have an extremely positive impact on our economy. If we keep attacking any specific plan that is put out there, we’ll end up keeping the current tax code and that would be a disaster.
Is that 9% federal sales tax on top of the base state sales tax rate ( State, City, County, special assesments for schools)? Some districts are already over 11%.
Yes, but it REPLACES all the other Federal income taxes that people pay. By replaces, it means that they go away entirely. One big complicated mess of a tax code goes away and is replaced by a simple, fair and transparent system. Because it is transparent, people will finally see what they are paying in taxes and hold Washington much more accountable.
The complexity of the code makes it extremely easy for Washington to raise taxes without people even knowing it. Those days would be over.
Ron Paul 2012 or BUST
No one else is as conservative. TS graw a pair and put RP on the polls.
Cain was drooling on himself with that big whopping lie!! WTG Ron Paul…show those no-minds how a real man debates!!!
