WOOOO HOOOOO!!! And PPP is a Democrat polling firm… GO CAIN!!!

    October 11, 2011

    http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/main/iowa/

Cain vaults into lead over Romney in Iowa caucus, Perry in 4th

Raleigh, N.C. – Herman Cain has surged into the lead in Iowa, and Rick Perry and Michele Bachmann crashed, with three months still to go in the race for the first nominating contest. Cain has 30% to Mitt Romney’s 22%, Ron Paul’s 10%, Perry’s 9%, Newt Gingrich’s and Bachmann’s 8%, Rick Santorum’s 5%, and Jon Huntsman’s and Gary Johnson’s 1%. When PPP last polled the state in August, just after Bachmann’s straw poll win and Perry’s entrance into the race, Perry led with 22% to Romney’s 19%, Bachmann’s 18%, Paul’s 16%, Cain’s 7%, and Gingrich’s and Santorum’s 5%, so Perry has dropped 13 points, Bachmann ten, and Paul six, while Cain is up a whopping 23 points, and Romney and Gingrich each three over the course of a month and a half.

Cain’s support could only grow if other candidates are not viable at certain caucus sites. He and Gingrich, who were first and second in PPP polls in North Carolina, West Virginia, and Nebraska last week, get the most second-choice support. Gingrich is the fallback of 17%, followed by Cain’s 16%, Perry’s 12%, Romney’s and Bachmann’s 11%, and Paul’s 9%. Cain gets the plurality of Bachmann’s, Santorum’s, and surprisingly, Romney’s backers, while Gingrich gets Cain’s and Paul’s, and Romney pulls Gingrich’s and Huntsman’s. Perry’s support is spread around.

Cain leads Romney 2:1 (38-19) among the 42% who say they are firmly committed to their first choice, while the two are tied at 27% among the 58% who may change their mind. Johnson, with his one supporter, has the most committed yet small base. His libertarian compatriate Paul is next; 53% of his voters are with him, do or die, then 52% of Perry’s, half of Cain’s, 43% of Gingrich’s, and then only 34% of Romney’s and a quarter of Bachmann’s. Romney has had consistent but soft support.

“Herman Cain not only has the lead in Iowa, he also has far more committed supporters than Mitt Romney,” said Dean Debnam, President of Public Policy Polling.

I’m worried about all of them and the audience. Why Republicans allow this sort of travesty is beyond me. The Washington Post and Bloomberg? With Charlie Rose? Can you imagine Democrats getting anywhere near a Fox News Channel debate with Mark Levin as moderator? Of course not. But Republicans just can’t say no.

Oh, this is not going to be good.

Romney, Cain and Huntsman may be terrific businessmen, but you cannot go around hiring and firing people in government like you can in a business. If you do not like say a head of a Congressional Committee because he flat out disagrees with you, you can’t just up and fire him. This is just one small example of all business and no political policy. Gingrich and Santorum are well qualified to know the difference.

Romney/Cain are experts in putting people out of work. I don know about Huntsman business experience but I do know that Gov Perry has done a great job in helping businesses to create jobs in Texas.

Just because something is constitutional doesn’t make it right. State governments are not models of efficiency and ethics either. The Constitution has nothing to do with it. I haven’t seen any arguments that the Solyndra investments were unconstitutional. Taxpayers are nevertheless out a half billion dollars. Limited government means government that doesn’t think it knows how to invest the people’s money better than the people.

I think Romney won this debate (I’m sorry to say). He really answers and reacts well, maintains an energy level, looks like a “nice guy”, gave substantive replies. Perry, by contrast loses – he mostly answered flatly with no energy. Cain held his own under attack, but disappointed with the Greenspan love.

    • Anonymous

That is a distinction without a difference. Employers hire people based on the total money that they will cost them. Just because the employer technically pays only half the payroll tax doesn’t mean that the employee really isn’t paying the whole amount from an economic standpoint. That is a government slight of hand that most people fall for – as are a myriad other tricks in our 70,000 pages of tax code. Almost all of those pages would go away under the FairTax, which is phase II of 9-9-9.

    • Anonymous

Absolutely right. He scored the most points and looked good doing it. Unfortunately, I’ll never trust him to be a real conservative. His credentials are paper thin.

      • Anonymous

Romney is not the most conservative candidate in the field, and I would vote for Cain, Bachmann, or Gingrich over him, but I do believe he is a true conservative, RomneyCare notwithstanding. He was governing in a very liberal state, and I think that given the opportunity, he will show a more conservative side should he become president. Perry, on the other hand, does scare me with his immigration policy – “doesn’t have a heart”. Neither belongs in my avatar picture, but they both have holes in their records. That’s why I would choose Cain.

        • Anonymous

BO would definitely rather have Romney or Perry than Herman Cain. He would paint Romney as Mr. Wall St. and Perry as another Bush. The latter argument isn’t fair, but to a lot of stupid people, it would work. Another vulnerability of Perry is that people like Leo like him. They may find out who Leo is and show a picture of him in a television commercial and dig up some of his stupid posts. That would certainly be the end for Perry. I don’t think they would quite know how to come after Herman Cain.

Cain 999’s plan would increase the tax base = new taxes = Not good for this weak economy in America

    • Anonymous

Increasing the tax base means you create new tax payers (because they’re working (due to a hospitable business climate that includes reduced taxes) and contributing to revenues)), not new taxes.

    • mike morrison

Yes, increase the tax base…more people PAYING taxes but at a lower percentage. This would eventually be replaced by a consumption tax which would completely get rid of income taxes. Great news for everyone:)

    • Anonymous

The 9% personal tax replaces the tens of thousands of pages of tax code, most importantly the personal income tax, the payroll tax and the death tax.

The 9% business flat tax decreases the corporate tax rate from 35%. It will make our products much more competitive overseas and will therefore boost manufacturing and jobs.

The 9% sales tax is a consumption tax and is the first step towards entirely scrapping the income tax and replacing it with the FairTax. The income tax punishes productivity and investment. Because it is simple and transparent, people would at least know haw much they are paying in taxes. With our current tax code, it is so complex that it’s far too easy for the government to increase taxes.

One can snipe at particulars in the plan but it is a bold plan that would have an extremely positive impact on our economy. If we keep attacking any specific plan that is put out there, we’ll end up keeping the current tax code and that would be a disaster.

  • Anonymous

Is that 9% federal sales tax on top of the base state sales tax rate ( State, City, County, special assesments for schools)? Some districts are already over 11%.

    • Anonymous

Yes, but it REPLACES all the other Federal income taxes that people pay. By replaces, it means that they go away entirely. One big complicated mess of a tax code goes away and is replaced by a simple, fair and transparent system. Because it is transparent, people will finally see what they are paying in taxes and hold Washington much more accountable.

The complexity of the code makes it extremely easy for Washington to raise taxes without people even knowing it. Those days would be over.
