“We Don’t Leave our Troops Behind!” – Mattis talks to reporters about Niger attack — [VIDEO]

Defense Secretary Mattis spoke to reporters a few moments ago on the attack that left four of our soldiers dead in Niger. He explained why our soldiers were there in the first place and why they are investigating the matter:

In short, they were there to assist our allies in training foreign troops.

Mattis said they are investigating because they always investigate when our troops are killed. He also says they don’t have all of the facts yet and that’s another reason they are conducting the investigation.

Lastly, it was clear he was annoyed by the suggestion in the media that our forces in Niger left the one soldier behind. He asked the media not to question their motives and pointed out that the fallen soldier was found by local forces and returned to us, which he said speaks well of our relationship with our allies there.
