What makes an American join ISIS in their terrorist war?

In a segment from CNN, terrorism expert Anthony Lemieux explains the appeal of ISIS to some Americans which have gone to Iraq to join the pig-dog demons in their Jihadist struggle.

While the academic explanation offers some insight, it’s weird that they never mention Islam, or the plain fact that there are just evil people in the world.
