Neither our current president nor Romney has served in the armed forces. I’ve heard Allen West make this point several times. But Whoopi was obviously trying to distinguish it further by proving that Romney’s are prohibited from serving because of their faith. I mean how unpatriotic would that be? And that’s what everyone would be saying.
But it turns out that Whoopi didn’t do her research and her question backfired:
Notice how she had to change it up to even complete the question, asking her how she would explain that her sons didn’t serve in the military. But who would even bring that up when they are comforting someone whose son or daughter was killed in combat? Ann Romney had it exactly right, that its a difficult situation and we can’t understand that kind of sacrifice if we’ve never served.
Either way, it’s just a stupid setup that ended in complete fail. And it’s a question that she’s never asked Michelle Obama because she’s not trying to set her up to fail.
