With all the terrorist attacks in Israel, this is what the State Dept. is “deeply concerned” about

I thought maybe the State Department would be “deeply concerned” about the wave of violence from Palestinian terrorists against Israelis. But that’s not at all what they are “deeply concerned” about:

TIMES OF ISRAEL – The US expressed its concern Wednesday that the approval by a local planning committee for 200 new homes in a Jerusalem neighborhood that lies in part over the Green Line will be an obstruction to peace.

US State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said the move in the Ramot neighborhood would further hinder efforts to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict with a two-state solution, Reuters reported.

“We are deeply concerned by this decision particularly given the tense situation in Jerusalem,” Psaki said during her daily press briefing. “Most importantly they are contrary to Israel’s own stated goal of achieving a two-state solution because they make it more difficult to do that.”

Ugh.

Netanyahu spokesperson Mark Regev says these settlements are in Jewish neighborhoods that would stay part of Israel during a peace process, something he says even Palestinians concede. So he doesn’t understand the criticism.

When pressed on it, Regev made it more clear:

Jerusalem is our capital. Jerusalem has been the capital of Israel for some 3,000 years. And obviously we have a very special attachment to this city. The idea that we can’t build in our capital is something we simply don’t accept.
