From everything I’ve read online Quartzsite, AZ seems to be a town out of control. They have some big problems which are evident in the video below. The Mayor is under a recall election that happens at the end of the next month and I’ve seen some on the internet that accuse the city council of persecuting the Mayor. The Chief of Police is also involved in a scandal or something and there’s much more out there if you want do a google search learn more.

At any rate, Jennifer Jones is speaking at a city council meeting open to the public and while she is speaking the council decides it’s time for her to be done and calls for a vote (while she is still talking) on a motion to have her removed. The Mayor steps in and says she has been recognized to speak but the council ignores him and has the woman removed even as the Mayor continues to contest. Here is a draft version of the minutes from that meeting:

Hmm, some people get a little power and can’t handle being challenged, if they were secure in who they were, they would have had a problem with this woman speaking. I find it very sad that that same men and woman of the police force that I pray for daily are not out to just get people instead of serve and protect. It is about hitting quota’s more then it is about respecting the rights of people, to speak and this woman did nothing except use her 1st amendment right. This is pathetic and sad

We will be seeing her again on Hannity or O’Reilly.

Holy crap. Witness the tyranny of the minority that is controlling many small cities out there.

Hey Obama, where is democracy? The most sacred right we possess next to guns under our pillows is being clearly violated.

Oh yes, those cops will have their “blue union rep”, protecting them, on your dime.

Someone should have called the Arizona state police ,and had them monitor what was going on.If I was a citizen of that community,I’d vote to have the police work contracted to the state.

      • Anonymous

The constitution gives more power to the smaller and local authority groups to govern themselves. What would be next, having the feds monitor city council meetings? Maybe the UN would be better because they are the least biased group.

        • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_SE4Q4DPS3GIPTJXEZFMQ6DJTUA Teri

” Maybe the UN would be better because they are the least biased group.” What? You’re calling on foreign nations to monitor city council meetings? No wonder this country is in such bad shape, with suggestions like that.

          • Anonymous

I was just making a point about looking to bigger, more tyrannical entities to solve your local problems. To me, the feds are the foreigners that we have handed our rights to. The UN is just next on the list. I am not seriously advocating that we go to them, because they would be more than happy to run our affairs.

Never was clear what she was talking about, but pretty amazing how the police officers were so obviously ‘owned’ by Windslow. That was a disturbing episode. I’m now wondering who owns the police in my little town!

Its sound to me like the city Council Member are making up the rules as they go along just like the White House.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_SE4Q4DPS3GIPTJXEZFMQ6DJTUA Teri

@meanernu–its not just the GOP that makes rules up as it goes along. Politicians from both sides of the aisle are guilty. Obama just took us into an illegal war under the guise of “humanitarianism”. Blaming one party is the problem in this country. It only serves to divide us. And that works just great for politicians. While we fight amongst ourselves, they are free to continue behaving this way.

If I was the mayor, I would’ve warned the two representatives of the Municipal Stormtroopers Corps that as mayor, I have a lot of input on their jobs, and if they disobeyed me, I would have both FIRED. Furthermore, I would’ve PHYSICALLY INTERVENED, and I DARE those motorfingers to try to arrest me. I would’ve personally called their chief and FIRED him for GP/SAG.

    • Aerialcat

Looks to me like the guy with all the stars on his collar, who was saying “Don’t resist the officer” might be the chief.

BTW, it’s not advisable to resist folks who carry guns if you are not equally armed.

      • Anonymous

I used to resist heavily armed people for a living. He doesn’t scare me. Especially if I’m the mayor. If you’re looking for someone to cower from guns and clubs, look elsewhere.

The city counsel is generally a separately elected group of people who make their own rules for running meetings. The mayor is not a dictator over them, though the council could vote to give the mayor certain powers if desired. Power sharing isn’t generally the goal.

A mentality of tyranny has infiltrated even the smallest of town and city councils. I believe that the power structure of our society has bowed down to government control as being for the good of the people.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_SE4Q4DPS3GIPTJXEZFMQ6DJTUA Teri

They make up their own rules, but not on the fly like they did. It violates their own rules. Just goes to show, these elected officials think they can do whatever they want when they want. They act more like rulers than representatives.

  • Anonymous

Seems like our local city and town councils have taken their cue from big government in Washington. These people have NO right to tell a citizen to sit down at a public meeting. Who the heck to these power hungry big mouthed, mini dictators think they are and who the heck voted for them?! I may have been born in Canada, but am I wrong in saying that the local police are under authority of the Mayor? Even so, this is SO WRONG!

I didn’t watch the video. This is probably coming to all of us before long, but not being in Arizona, even, I can’t do anything about it and I didn’t want to lose the excellent dinner I just finished.

I want to say this, though: if you’re an officer of THE LAW, you’re going to have to decide whether you will enforce the law or some tyrant’s self-interest. If you want the people to support you, you’d better support the people, not some minor-league, chicken-scratch, candy-apple nazi.

Quartzite citizens need to de-fund the entire law enforcement department that was involved, fire them, and start from scratch. Try Oathkeepers for replacement recommendations.

There’s no point trying to abide by the law if the local rulers don’t. Take away the muscle from the council members and then deal with them.

Each of those officers, presumably, swore out an OATH to upload the CONSTITUTION of the state, and of the nation, in addition to the laws of the state and jurisdiction they are in. It is their DUTY to not only ignore but to RESIT all orders that conflict with that oath.

This is happening in every town, city, County, and state in America. From the smallest village to capital hill somehow we the people have become so weak, so immune to corruption and Marxism that we went from being the greatest country in the world to being completely muted if you do not bow to their leftist tyrant rulings. If we do not all start getting passionate and teach our children to stand up for what is right.
More than ever we need to instill moral fiber into our children. There is no way better to do that but to stand up against this animal that we’ve allowed to grow right in front of us.
We will never be able to make the media and it’s disciples that they do not speak for America. The only way we can affect them is to boycott the products and companies that continue to advertise on these state run stations. Call the these companies and tell them that you will not buy their products and services and then FOLLOW THRU WITH IT. Call your congressman and let them know that they will either stop NPR from receiving taxpayers funds or he/she will loose his seat and sweat cushy job.If we affect their funding they will change their format or go bankrupt. Either way we win.

The cities and counties are heavily invested in the same bad investments that caused the near financial collapse. The collapse is still coming. The municipals are going broke as well as everyone else. On top of that, there are continuous mandates handed down to the cities and counties from the states and the feds. The federal government has taken over in more ways than most know. The police are fed trained, and don’t generally know what their oath means, let alone the constitution.

We are a society of terrorist fearing wimps, who bow down to government authority like beaten slaves. You are right, it will get worse. Much worse. I believe that we are past the point of no return. They are rolling in the tyranny slow enough that people don’t rebel like they should. The courts are a joke, and only serve the system. We aren’t far from having kangaroo courts. Especially on the federal level with recycled juries.

When the politicians and the courts reach a certain level of corruption, and the citizenry becomes as weak as we are, there is nothing left but hardcore tyranny on the horizon.

The America we think we have, in reality, is no more. It isn’t just the libs that brought it on. Fascism and the police state are in full swing.

  • Persephone

I just hope that those fascist Council Members are not Republicans.

They should have let that Mrs. Jones woman speak her piece.
I am outraged for her…even if she is a liberal.

    • Anonymous

Would you be surprised if they were republicans? I wouldn’t. Republicans have done more to put us in a police state than the dems. The dems are better at spending money and creating social programs, and the republicans are better at starting wars and police state tyrannies.

Americans are so drugged up, media minded, and dependent that they can’t even think for themselves. That is how they like it. We have too much of nothing to do that we don’t pay attention to our own country, let alone the world.

      • Anonymous

You are so way off…spouting leftist generalities… that a response is a waste of time. But, read your last sentence carefully, then look around, without resorting to your normal sources. In other words…think for yourself. Now… who is “drugged up, media minded, and dependent”? The true nature of the left’s progressive agenda is on full display; they are dropping the facade…believing they have reached a pinnacle with the election of Obama. They wrongly believed the control of the media, labor, and the education system for over 80 years had created a majority of elmerfud71’s, who “are so drugged up, media minded, and dependent”, that they could easily prevail in the full application of the soft tyranny of progressivism. They were wrong! The election of Obama was the best thing that could have happened to this country. The WWII quote from a Japanese General…”I fear we have awakened a sleeping giant”.. comes to mind

        • Anonymous

Its more like a “sleeping mouse”. People think they know what “the country” is thinking. They may know what they themselves think, or even what polls say, but they fail to consider a few things.

Polls don’t necessarily line up with people’s actions. Most people react on a short term basis to information, then tend to forget about it. The majority of Americans believe that either the left or the right is sincere “this time”, and one of them is the answer to our problems.

Exclude these groups from the populous: People on some form of social security. People getting food stamps. People on a government pension or retirement system. People on housing assistance. People currently working in government. Farmers receiving subsidies, or working for a bailed out industry. People receiving unemployment checks. People with government, and bailed out bank, controlled retirements like 401ks. People who have taken government loans for housing and business’. People who have, or want, college loans controlled by government. People in prisons. People on some form of welfare. And a few more, People who trust government. People in the military.People receiving checks for military disabilities. People dependent on “controlled” medications. People dependent on government regulated energy.

Then consider how many of these people would be willing to lose what they have. These are controlled groups that government will use and manipulate in a crisis or rebellion.

Of the few people left, how many can feed themselves? How many can exit the system completely and fight back? How many can survive without paying property taxes, or getting the required licensing to be a part of society. How many have rejected the government/media propaganda machine, and gone outside of the box to find out what reality is? How many are willing to be considered a terrorist under the Patriot Act and Homeland Security for organizing in groups like Oath Keepers, Veterans Against the Wars, and many more. In an increasing tyranny, they will be considered a threat to America.

How many people accept forced drugging with carcinogens in their water supply? How many people know about Monsanto and their reign over government regulation to force out small farmers and poison the food supply through GMOs and roundup ready crops that they force Big Ag growers to use through the court system?

You can think that America will fight back and restore the country to its former glory, but your idea of America’s true resolve is beyond optimistic. It is fairy tale material. If you think that the progressives are the beginning and the end to our tyranny, you are mistaken and have put too much weight on Glenn Beck’s word. Progressivism exist, as well as socialism, communism, fascism, marxism, and the like, but all presidents and almost all of congress and the senate in modern history have done things that take a page out of all of these books.

Anyone who focus’ on one group as the big problem is missing the boat. Left/right, progressive it doesn’t matter. The system is corrupt beyond repair and most of the country is still buying into their crap in one way or another or is so dependent that they cannot afford to make waves.

If a so called waking giant was to appear, you will see the real hard core tyranny showing its ugly face. The laws and enforcement is ready to go.

We saw a power hungry councilwoman in Vancouver,Washington last summer try to shut down a speaker from the public on her own , she even continuously ignored the objections of most of her other council members and continued to demand that the speaker be removed simply because she said so. She was rightfully chastised by the local media and the city the following day. She even took a call from a radio talk show host who had done his homework on the incident and he reminded her of the first amendment to the Constitution. He asked her if she had read it and surprisingly she admitted she had not.

    • Anonymous

What’s surprising about her not reading and knowing the Constitution? I’d put a smiley face to show my agreement with the rest of your comment, but sadly, there is nothing happy about those elected masses who haven’t a clue or don’t care about the Constitution.

Remember we do not resemble our government our government resembles us…
We have moral corruption all around us and we put up with it and wonder why the people we elect are corrupt. They are only a mirror of…. “WE THE PEOPLE”
And its is up to us to change what we put up with… we have to elect people who will support the original intent of the Constitution…I will take a wild guess and say that about 90% of all laws(I’m talking Washington D.C.) passed in the last 100 years are unconstitutional and should be thrown out. That is just from reading what the Founding Fathers wrote and the Federalist Papers argued. That is not even touching on the Anti-federalist papers, which I hope to get to reading next. Just remember all decision from the high courts are just OPINIONS not law but if you have a group that treats it like law that’s were the trouble comes…and that is how libscums change society into Sodom and Gomorrah…

Council member Winslow is out of order. I can’t believe how they are trying to railroad their own people by ignoring parliamentary procedure. If that happens again, Jennifer Jones needs to have 2 people to arrest each bailiff. People trained to disarm men with firearms. She will also need one fellow to patrol the councilman’s area. She will also need 2 men to guard each door(s). She will also need 10 more men to provide over-watch and a radio scrambler or signal attenuator. This is what will happen to many city governments that ignore the will of the people.

  • Anonymous

Their rules their game, learn their rules and play their game. Every meeting body has adopted Parliamentary Procedures that may be adjusted for their means by proper procedure and notice, (I am not a lawyer). From what little I can read into the statement and having viewed the video Ms. Jones is Out Of Order subject to removal and eventually arrest for disruptive behavior etc. I know it is outrageous but it is their game their rules, learn their game and play accordingly. Ms. Jones was recognized and had the floor to address the Council, NOT THE AUDIENCE in attendance, (this is not a town hall meeting). Ms. Jones should have simply stayed facing the Council, directed her comments towards the Council. I suspect in a small town like Quartzsite, meeting protocol is somewhat lax which may have set the precedence to allow Council members to remove her as such, therefore it appears they were well within their rights to do so. Proper procedure by the Council to remove the floor form Ms. Jones under Roberts Rules of Order is as follows: raise a POINT OF ORDER “to suspend comments from Ms. Jones to allow continuation of the meeting. A “POINT OF ORDER” can/should be raised by anyone within the meeting body being the sitting Council (that excludes the audience at this time) by simply ‘standing up’ and announcing POINT OF ORDER – wait to be recognized by the Chair. If the Chair does not recognize the Point of Order, raise it again stating “POINT OF ORDER” where someone NEEDS to second the Point Of Order. Upon SECOND, if the Chair continues to ignore the Point Of Order, the MAKER themselves can put the question to a vote STANDING IN PLACE as well as move to censor the Chairman. It sounds like Ms. Jones was removed for cause but not necessarily by proper protocol. That said, political free speech is rarely prosecuted, stick to your opinion, stick to the facts as you perceive them (opinion) and blast them by whatever means. If you play by their rules, you win. The end point is this, INDEMNIFICATION can be voided for wanton acts, once voided hold them personally responsible, kind of like undressing the boss. This includes the police chief of Quartzsite.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_TT6K3S6TS2IM5SOGLDI7HPP2NM Art s

Fat guy winslow did not stand up to raise a point of order the second time. Neither did I hear a second. The chair recognized the speaker and gave her the floor. The police took out the wrong person. Next time if she speaks.. she will need a large angry crowd to enforce the procedures and the rules will no longer apply.

I wish I could say that Councilman Winslow’s actions and the police who totally dismissed the request of the mayor were unbelievable and unthinkable. But, sadly they are not. Some points in this post could use some clarification.
Quartzsite A town out of control found at http://quartzsite-thoughts.blogspot.com/ written about my first hand experience with Quartzsite’s town council will give a great deal of clarification on the past and current condition of a town out of control.
Many of the comments from your readers refer to what Mayor Ed Foster should have done. Know this: One the night just before newly elected Mayor Ed Foster was seated the town council stripped the incoming Mayor of over 90% of the powers of the office of Mayor. Why would a tow do this one might ask? To prevent the new Mayor from taking any action on any campaign promises.
Mr. Ed Foster stated if elected he would fire town manager Alex Taft and Police Chief Jeff Gilbert for valid reasons. If you read my blogspot listed above the picture becomes very clear.
The night the new Mayor was seated was 10 fold more volatile than has been sited here. I was at the meeting when new mayor was seated and found it hard to understand the power, urgency and actions the town council passed before the new Mayor was seated. It was, in fact, the action of a last great act of defiance on the part of a town out of control.
The Mayor is helpless in controlling a town council meeting. The Police Chief will arrest those he chooses during the meetings even when the Mayor protests. And, when town council and town officials take over the meeting the Mayor is unable to have the party/parties removed or arrested. The Police Chief will not enforce the Mayor’s efforts in removing the disrupters.

Something smells in Quartszite, AZ. If the city council is screwed up, I can bet the police isn’t far behind.

This is a lawsuit made in heaven for the ACLU. Unlawful detention by police in a small hick town whose council members are obviously oblivious to civil rights and roles of order.

This is a LAWSUIT made in heaven for the ACLU and other civil rights organizations. Unlawful detention by the police department of a small hick town whose own city council members are completely ignorant of citizens rights and rules of law. This is one lucky woman who should definitely come out of this ordeal with the last laugh.

Write Governor Brewer, ask for state legal involvement since this council obviously does not follow parliamentary procedure or respect rule of law. It is out of control with whatever small town personal agendas that are being harbored. This mayor – facing a recall election next month and being treated disrespectfully by his council must be a nightmare. If this can happen in Quartzsite, it could happen other places. I hope our Attorney General can lay down the law. As for the police, I suspect they are not the bad guys in this – just doing what they are asked to do but they may not understand who they have to answer to – what a sad mess!
