“You’re taking a hostile interpretation…and treating it as gospel truth!” – Rich Lowry defends Trump, goes rounds with CNN

Rich Lowry went rounds this morning with Chris Cuomo on CNN as he tried to explain Trump’s remarks from last week in their proper context.

Watch:

Lowry is trying to get Cuomo (and Walsh) to understand that Trump’s comments can’t be divorced from the context of the conversation, which was the visa lottery system. He explains that Trump wants a merit-based system and wasn’t actually calling for more immigration from Norway, but was pointing out that we shouldn’t have a visa lottery system to begin with, which is what both Durbin and Graham were still advocating.

At one point Lowry tells both Cuomo and Joan Walsh that they’re being completely unfair to Trump and “taking a hostile interpretation of his remarks and treating it as gospel truth.”

When he suggested to Cuomo that Trump’s comments should be viewed in the prism of Trump’s policy proposal, Cuomo responds “why would I do that?”.

Ugh.

As a side note, Cuomo claims in the video that he never called Trump a ‘sh**hole’ and said some of us on the right are trying to get him fired for it. He tried to explain it away, but I’m pretty sure he knew exactly what he was doing when he wrote it on the board.
